5.0 out of 5 stars Go for Greenlight!
Greenlight, by young trombonist Sarah Morrow and an all-star band, is a great introduction to modern jazz for people who don't necessarily like jazz. The album features solid grooves, and several mood-oriented original compositions by Ms. Morrow. The music reaches very high levels of intensity during the improvisations, but never boils over into needless self-indulgence,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
I have to admit that an idea of a female trombonist is apealing and sucks you in at first. Compared to other trombonists that are "heavies" so to say, Sarah Morrow is rudimentary. Being cute and female isn't enough here, sorry. This cd almost makes me want to tune her out and listen to the sidemen. Don't get me wrong, Miss Morrow does indeed possess marvelous...

Greenlight, by young trombonist Sarah Morrow and an all-star band, is a great introduction to modern jazz for people who don't necessarily like jazz. The album features solid grooves, and several mood-oriented original compositions by Ms. Morrow. The music reaches very high levels of intensity during the improvisations, but never boils over into needless self-indulgence, which is my main criticism of a lot of modern jazz. The album has a very spontaneous, even raw feel, which may be difficult for some jazz neophytes, but the rythmic energy more than compensates. Overall, i get the feeling that this album is a good representation of what Ms. Morrow and her band might sound like in a live concert, which is usually where the best jazz takes place anyway. This debut album from Ms. Morrow is, I'm sure, a sign of even greater things to come!

I love this CD. I especially like Sarah's interpretation of "You Don't Know What Love Is," because it showcases what I like best about her playing: her compelling and beautiful sound. Looking forward to her next release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, Groove-oriented Music, May 8, 2002

I first heard the music from the CD "Greenlight" by Sarah Morrow
at a live concert she gave in Paris, France for the JVC Jazz Festival. I loved the music and purchased the CD on the spot!
Wanting to give the "Greenlight" CD to a friend for his birthday, I was thrilled to find it available on Amazon.com. I find "Greenlight" to be very versatile with many different grooves making it interesting from beginning to end. The spirit of the first track, a very innovative spoken intro, is reflected in the music of each subsequent track on the CD. The verve and spirit of each song comes across due to the ingenious playing of Sarah Morrow and her side men coupled with their excellent communication with each other. Sarah's original compositions on the CD are equally as outstanding as the standards. I love this CD and am telling all my friends to check it out! Definitely buy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Album, May 7, 2002
This review is from: Greenlight (Audio CD)
I recently bought Sarah Morrow's first CD, "Greenlight", and I think it is a great new album from a new voice that should be heard. Sarah's melodic and versatile playing shows that she is both based in the history of the music but has something new to say in jazz and definitely is someone to watch for in coming years. I don't usually write reviews on Amazon.com.... I love this album and all of my friends do as well. I can only imagine the anonymous reviewer must be a male chauvenist (perhaps a frustrated musician himself?) who doesn't think women can do as good as men. I find Sarah Morrow's CD to be one of the best debut jazz CD's that I've heard in a long time!

Don't get me wrong, Miss Morrow does indeed possess marvelous potential, but if I was her I couldn't help but hear a resounding "get in the shed" going through my head. The tunes and arrangements are good though for a debut album. I wouldn't suggest paying full price for this, get it at your local used cd outlet. Thanks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Man, June 3, 2002
By A Customer

Dear reviewer(Josh). I'm not a man at all, or frustrated for that matter. Go listen to Ingrid Jensen, Lynn Airiale, Geri Allen or Terri-lynne Carrington if you want to hear genuinely hard hitting women, or just find a way to listen to the side men on this album. Thanks. Buh-bye.
