3.0 out of 5 stars OK night light, sub-par flashlight, covers both outlets
What do you want? This is a nightlight that has battery backups and a low-power flashlight. It's got three settings: all off (but still charging), nightlight mode and flashlight mode. In nightlight mode it's a dim nightlight and if the power goes off it gets brighter. In flashlight mode it's kind of dim. You can pull if off the wall and rummage around in a drawer to...

I have several of these lights and have been very happy with them.
I've already had several power cuts since purchasing the light and they've worked perfectly without dimming even after power cuts lasting for over three hours.

The light is not terribly bright but it's good enough that you won't be bumping into furniture during a power outage. The light is at its brightest when the power is off.
When its used as a nightlight it is a little dimmer but still bright enough to see your way around.
The intensity of the light will vary depending on how dark the room is. In the late afternoon when the sun is still outside it will be very dim but will brighten up as the room becomes darker. Although there is a photo sensor on the light a loss of power will turn the light on regardless of how dark or light the room is.

The light stays on a lot longer than the round emergency plug in lights that I've used in the past and it looks a lot better than them. I do think it would look even better without the flashlight part of the light and I would prefer to purchase a version like that if they'd offer it.

When plugging into a double outlet it still leaves room for a small plug to go into the outlet next to it.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase and the only changes I would make would be to make it a little smaller.

Jan 2008:
They're still working two years after originally purchasing them.

February 2010:
They're still working four years after originally purchasing them but one of them doesn't hold the charge as long as it used to. That's to be expected after such a long time and after so many power outages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome combination product. Better than Timex version., October 25, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This little (inexpensive) item does a lot. First of all it is a rechargable LED flashlight you leave hanging in an outlet so it is always charged. It is an "ok" flashlight.

If you slide the switch to nightlight, it is an automatic nightlight (comes on when the room is dark). In this mode the light will also come on when the power goes out. In a blackout your nightlights will automatically kick on.

This one is better than the nearly identical timex model. The nightlight on this brand is white, instead of amber. Also, the exterior is more plain and looks better on the wall.

Tough to beat this thing for $12.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, January 2, 2008
By
I have had two of these lights for about two weeks at the time of this review and am happy with their performance for the price. The light in nightlight mode is mostly directed down toward the floor which makes it easy to see at night. The flashlight mode is bright enough to be useful without being brighter than necessary (impressive, but wasteful of battery power).

The light does not seem to turn off completely during the day. It dims down a bit and covering the light sensor on the front causes the light to get brighter, but it never goes out. It also has a red led on the front that is always on and seems unnecessary.

Other reviewers have stated that the light blocks the second outlet. This is not correct, depending on what you are trying to plug in. The second outlet can be used, but you may not be able to plug in very large power supply type plugs. Normal cords and small plug chargers (like cell phone chargers) fit without an issue.

You can pull if off the wall and rummage around in a drawer to find a better flashlight I suppose. But if you're like me that flashlight's batteries will be dead anyway, this one's won't, which is why I bought it.

I have 4 of these 3 in 1 Nightlight LED flashlight/emergency backup lights and am so grateful to GreenLite for a superior product! Our power went out during the tornado here in Woodstock,GA on May 20,2008 at 6:30pmEDT and the lights--all 4--stayed on the entire 18 hours until power was restored the next afternoon at 12:30pm! My young sons' slept comfortably with their nightlights and we were able to move safely throughout our home! I recommend these lights to anyone who often have power outages or extreme weather. 3 in 1 Nitelite LED Flashlight with 8 hour battery backup Mrs. Freida D. Slater in Woodstock,GA

5.0 out of 5 stars Good light for emergency lighting, July 12, 2008

This review is from: Greenlite NL/WH/3/1/CD/1 - LED 3-in-1 Night Light, Emergency Light, & Flashlight - GREAT STOCKING STUFFER! (Misc.)
If you're looking for a light to provide minimal lighting during a power failure then this is your light. If you're not familiar with LED lights they will not be confused with their non-LED counterparts but are bright enough to read by or do emergency maintenance in no electricity situations.

It would be nice if the nightlight could be turned off so this only lit up during power failures however it isn't a deal breaker but if you prefer to sleep in the dark don't put this light in the room with you unless you want it off completely and can get to it in the dark.

This light has been our best and longest lasting LED light. The other ones still work but have minor issues that are irritating. This light seems to work as well as the day we've bought it even after 2 years of being continually plugged in and used, we wish we could say that for the Sylvania Power Failure LED Lights we bought at SAM'S Club.

Small & practical, worked like a charm for the first blackout & a couple other times I used as a flashlight. Next brownout I noticed it didn't light up, went to try & it only worked as a flashlight. Saved it in the junk drawer at least for that use, but by the end of the week it wouldn't work at all anymore, even though I tried recharging it. It's a good concept, but useless if it only works for a few weeks. If it's bad batteries, I'd rather have something I have to put my own instead of this junk.

I bought 5 of these and put them in each of my kids' bedroom, our master bedroom and also the basement. Not only do they work great as nightlights but during power failures, they provided very adequate lighting (as emergency lights) to allow us to move around the house. Best is that you can unplug them and use them as flashlights. Only reason I gave them 4 out of 5 stars is that the whole unit covers the extra power socket.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK nightlight & flashlight but blocks 2nd outlet, March 7, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It works ok as a night light & flashlight, but it blocks the second outlet when plugged in. There's a similar priced light that does all this one does, and doesn't block the second outlet: "E-light: LED Emergency Light, Night Light, Flashlight, AAA Charger"

5.0 out of 5 stars Best nightlight ever, May 8, 2004

You just can't beat this, it costs 40 cents/year to operate, and that's when it is operating 10 HOURS a day. Also, if the night light ever stops working for some reason, just return it to the company and they'll send you a new one.

The light is bright for an LED, and the integrated flashlight will definitely be great for when the power goes out.
