"No spoilers here, but if you love planet hopping, space crafts, incredibly thought out societal pecking orders, stuff called scent bots and voyeurs, and characters you simply cannot resist rooting for...read this."
-T. K. Toppin, author of THE LANCASTER RULE series

This is the first book in a new science fiction romance series set within the world of the Ambasadora science fiction adventure series. This space thriller contains elements of futuristic romance, military science fiction, a galactic empire, dystopian society, and space opera.

In a caste-ruled society, celebrity, beauty, and power mean everything and multiple partners are the norm. Love and jealousy are considered emotional fallacies, nothing more than fleeting moods and sentiments biased by hormones. But sometimes people just fall in love…and that can be deadly.

Mari's rare eye color makes her a pariah within Upper Caste society, which is why she prefers plants to people...except David, the former Armadan captain who shuttles scientists around on a refurbished pleasure cruiser.

But someone else is interested in Mari and her distinctive look--an obsessed psychopath who tortures and murders women for pleasure.

When the killer chooses Mari as his next victim, the soldier inside David comes alive, but it is Mari who must fight for her own life and prove she isn't as fragile as the flowers she nurtures.

Also read Ambasadora BOOK 1: MARKED BY LIGHT, the space opera novel that inspired the spin-off science fiction romance series, From the World of Ambasadora.

From the Author

Welcome to another story from the Ambasadora-verse!

This science fiction romance is a stand alone novel which takes place one month before Ambasadora Book 1: Marked by Light. It follows the love story of David Anlow and Boston Maribu.

Creating the worlds and characters in the Ambasadora-verse took me six years, and I'm still going because I love the interplay of adventure against the backdrop of Science Fiction.

Enjoy David and Mari's tale in Greenshift and get ready for Starrie and Ambasadora Book 2: Scarred by Light!

Happy Reading,
Heidi

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Sci-Fi Romance March 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love sci-fi romance and am always on the lookout for a new author. This was a great introduction to a new world with characters that were memorable and believable.

Heroine - Boston Maribu or Mari to her friends is a young Botanist who has worked hard to escape the expectations of her family in order to become an independent woman. With few clients, Mari sits in a precarious financial position fearing she'll be forced to return to her home world in defeat just as her family predicted.

Hero - David Anlow is a former Aramadan Captain who had given more than 40 years of his life in service to the Fleet. After a heartbreaking betrayal by his lover and the Fleet he took an early retirement obtaining his own civilian ship and crew.

Romance - between David and Mari was a slow, sweet development. They spent time getting to know each other with no hormonal overload. David, unsettled by Mari's youth and about how wrong he'd been about his previous relationship was trying to be slow and cautious but his jealousy, over protectiveness, and unwillingness to be away from Mari told him it was too late to protect his heart. Mari had no qualms and knew David was the one.

Plot - While supplying the ship for travel, Mari and David go out on a date where Mari is approached by an old acquaintance. Dale Zapona is a well known, rich industrialist who would like Mari to do an upgrade to one of his freighters in order to meet the newly required "Green" initiative - a dream job for a young, inexperienced Botanist with a thin resume. Mari is excited to get this second chance. Zapona had approached Mari the previous year but her parents thought she was too young and convinced her to not go.

My favorite part of this book was the clever world building. The author seemed to slip you into the world without you realizing you were being educated about the sci-fi world you were entering. That is difficult for most authors to do. No break was taken to inform you; you were just told the interesting story about Mari and David and the rest of the passengers on the Bard. I liked the teaser we get for the other characters because I truly want to read the next books in the Amasadora-verse series to get to know them better. I thought the idea that after enough time a caste system comes back into popularity. Everything is cyclical after all.

The plot in and of itself wasn't that unique but the rich world descriptions, character backgrounds, class distinctions, and political battles were well worth my time. The price at $0 was more than worth it but I'm not sure I would have paid for the book prior to reading it. It is smart to keep it free because people like me will get hooked and pay for the rest of the series. I am already half way through the next book and it seems to just get better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Father's Damsel in Distress February 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Greenshift is a fast-moving tale set in the world Miller first introduced us to with Ambasadora. Although it does include some of the characters from that book it is a stand-alone adventure in its own right. Miller's trademark sexy sci-fi is in full effect as the book centers on the blooming relationship between Captain David Anlow and the much younger Boston "Mari" Maribou who lives and works on the same ship as he does. Just as the two are really starting to get to know each other Mari finds herself in the most terrifying situation of her young life. And though David is a retired solider, who has lived through his share of fierce battles, knowing Mari is in danger is more frightening than anything he's faced before.

This may sound like the set-up for countless books and movies but you won't get the same old, tired damsel-in-distress rescue with Greenshift. I don't want to include any spoilers here but I love the new twist that Miller puts on that played-out plot-line. As with Ambasadora, the romance angle infuses the action with a drama and immediacy that can be lacking from many thriller novels. The characters are engaging and endearing while the action keeps things moving along. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2nd trip to the Amabasadora-verse and look forward to future journeys there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greenshift November 1, 2013
By Heather
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
More of Miller's Ambasadora world is always a good thing, and she doesn't disappoint with this first in a new series that focuses on romantic relationships. But, as with Marked by Light, there is much beneath the surface. While exploring the intimacies of David and Mari's courtship, we also discover themes of abuse against woman, social station, genetic purity, and escape.

Mari wants to escape from her polluted home planet, a narrow-minded family, an over-protective lover, and society's hypocrisy.

Like she says, "Selective breeding was still gene manipulation no matter if you covered it with the euphemism of marriage." And a young girl trying to become a woman is still naïve in her thinking no matter if she's a highly trained scientist teetering in a pair of high heels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greenshift - must-read sfr February 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The good:
Again, I loved the world building in this, the attention to detail and the portrayal of the characters. Heidi has a talent for making them so real. The writing is flawless and descriptive, and all the premises and reactions believable and consistent. The bad guys completely gave me the creeps, and I'm glad the torture scenes weren't more detailed - there was enough there for you to use your imagination, should you wish.

The bad:
The only reason I've rated this a touch lower than Ambasadora is because I felt the events in Greenshift hadn't carried over into the relationship in Ambasadora. I know they were written in reverse and that Ambasadora focuses on Sara Mendoza and Sean Cryer, but I felt there maybe should have been a line or two considering Greenshift takes place only a month before Ambasadora. Pure nit-picking - sorry!

In sum:
While I still prefer Ambasadora, this is a great addition to the library of any sfr fan.
