MCKELLAR IS A SCOTTISH TREASURE !!!!!!!!!!, April 12, 2010

One of the greatest gifts is the glorious voice of KENNITH MCKELLAR magnificant singing. Here KENNETH returns to the rich heritage of the British Isles; songs that are derived from England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. The CD comes with a brief booklet with notes from MR. MCKELLAR providing the listener with notes and comments on the orgins of the songs. While KENNETH MCKELLAR'S GREENSLEEVES AND OTHER SONGS OF THE BRITISH ISLES is a beautiful listening experience, these recordings really aren't my favorite songs he recorded. Don't get me wrong as they are really quite lovely and wonderfully produced; its just he has a vast back catalogue and there are other albums and works I tend to like better - that's all. For me its always been his stellar voice, and I'll listen to him sing anything. It is a travesty that more people don't know of him today as he is such a fine tenor, and is really one of Scotland's National treasures! MR. MCKELLAR to me is one of the greatest male voices of the second half of the 20th century and its elemental strengh is like part of the Scottish landscape itself. I would highly recommend GREENSLEEVES AND OTHER SONGS OF THE BRITISH ISLES by KENNETH MCKELLAR and any other of this amazing singers works.

Not only is the singing superb but Mr. Sharples knows just how to harmonize these folk song gems. Orchestral accompaniment is wonderful.
