This review is from: Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I wanted to replace my Homelite 14" dual-line string trimmer as I finally had enough of the noise, pollution, starting issues, mixing/storing of gas & oil, engine maintenance, and the constant need (and effort) to replace the pre-cut line strips.
Cordless is the way to go. However, given the current limitations of battery technology, I was concerned about finding a string trimmer that had the necessary balance of power, run time, weight, and charge time. I also wanted a reliable unit that would give me years of trouble-free service. I did my usual due-diligence, and spent hours reading reviews and handling a few units at the local hardware stores. I work in the computer/electronics field, so I am very familiar with battery technology and the other parts of a string trimmer. I know I wanted Lithium Ion batteries with >30 minutes run time. I was also more interested in the highest AH (Amp Hour) rating than Volts (e.g., 18V, 20V, 36V, etc). Marketing is pushing the voltage rating (largely because the lower-cost Ni-cad batteries have a lower Amp-Hour rating in comparison to Lithium Ion batteries of the same weight). However, voltage is a poor indicator of how powerful and long the trimmer will run. For example; both a tiny hearing-aid battery and D-size flashlight battery have the same voltage rating (1.5V), however the D-size battery has a much higher Amp-Hour rating. If you replaced the D cell in a flash light with the tiny hearing-aid battery, the light would barely be visible and would drain the battery in less than a minute. Whereas the D cell would light the lamp at full brightness for over 30 minutes. Same basic principle applies to a trimmer. Choices as of now (2010) for Li-Ion batteries range from 1.3 Ah to 6.0 Ah. 6 Ah is a huge amount of capacity! 1.3 Ah is small, and given the amount of current (Amps) required each minute to spin a string-trimmer motor powerful enough to cut grass, is only suitable for a postage-stamp sized yards. For comparison; as of 2011, a hi-capacity laptop Li-Ion battery is ~ 4.5 Ah. In addition, Li-Ion batteries do not have the memory effect that NiCad batteries do, so I do not have to totally discharge the battery before recharging. That is a major weakness for Ni-Cads because you always end up charging the battery for the full 12+ hours before each use. Furthermore, Li-Ion batteries hold their charge over a much longer period of time than a Ni-Cad. I can fully charge a Li-Ion battery and, a week or so later, top it off with a quick charge (say 90 minutes) as required over the season. Unfortunately high Amp-Hour Li-Ion string-trimmer choices are very limited at this time. The Greenworks 21602 and Troy-Bilt TB57 are really the only choices; the TB57 being the cheaper of the two. They are basically the same unit. They both use the identical Li-Ion 6AH battery and 4 ˝ hr. charger. The only real difference (other than color) is the shaft, throttle switch, and the swivel hinge for edging on the Greenworks. BTW: you could buy the TB57 and use the battery on the Greenworks leaf blower. I handled the TB57 at Lowes, and I agree with the negative reviews about the short shaft and force required to hold the safety switch in. In the end, I ordered the Greenworks mainly because I am 6' tall and the TB57 was just a little short (even with the telescopic shaft at maximum) and I know my finger would get numb from holding the power switch down. I really struggled with the decision to buy this particular brand of string trimmer. I was hesitant to buy an unknown brand; especially since the Greenworks web site did not list any near-by service locations to drop the unit off for warranty repair (only option is mail in), and reading two reviews on Amazon where the warranty hot line was non-existent or unresponsive. That makes Greenwork's four-year warranty worthless. I am also concerned about the longevity of the electric motor. Will it last +5 years? I noticed two people already experienced early-life motor failures (one Greenworks and one Troy Bilt). I plan on giving the Greenworks a good workout and return it to Amazon if I find anything I don't like during the first 30 days. Well I got the Greenworks four days after ordering it (selected the free shipping option) from Amazon (exceeding my expectation and one of the main reasons why I buy from Amazon). Assembly was very easy (needed a Philips screw driver for the one screw). Build quality seems good. I do agree with one reviewer that the plastic handle feels a little cheap as it flexes a bit. However, that flex does make the unit even more comfortable. The shaft is long enough for me. The balance and weight are very good. Regarding cutting power; this is not a commercial grade trimmer that you use for a landscaping business. The power is sufficient to cut through dense grass; however I have to move a little slower than I did with my gas trimmer. This trimmer is suited for yards that have been maintained well in the past. I would not recommend it for a yard that is, or often becomes, overgrown (i.e., grass or weeds over 12" tall). The automatic line feed works very well. Each time I start the unit it feeds Ľ" of new line. The only drawback is that I go through a lot of line when I move from tree to tree; stopping the unit each time to save battery power. The four hour charge time is adequate as it does keep me from missing a scheduled grass cutting if I forget to charge the battery the day before (can't do that with a 12 hr. Ni-cad charger). Like any battery powered trimmer, the noise level is very low. I am now able to trim the yard in the early morning (before I start using the lawn mower) without getting my neighbors upset. So far I am satisfied with this purchase. However, I did notice the motor slow down to about 1/3 the speed while using it. The speed returned to normal when I released the throttle and pressed it in again. This happened three times already. I am not sure if the motor has a built in thermal power reduction (which is good as it would prevent the motor from burning up). If it starts to happen more often, I will return the trimmer to Amazon. Update week 1: Battery life is excellent. I have used this trimmer over a five day period on the original charge. After +30 minutes of use, I still have three of four battery status lights on. I have noticed that the motor air vents clog with grass clippings after a few minutes of use. This may contribute to the motor overheating/failure problems some are experiencing. I now make it a practice to clean the air vents (wipe off the external grass and blow out the grass inside the motor) every few minutes. I think Greenworks should design a thick foam ring that fits over the motor to trap the clippings. Then all I would need to do is periodically rinse the foam ring in soapy water. Update week 3: After 3 weeks of use, I am very pleased with this trimmer. It took awhile to get use to the fact that it is always ready to go with just a push of a button; no need to charge before each use, no worries bout prepping the motor and trying to start it, etc. I now find myself pulling out the trimmer when I come from work and spot a few weeds while walking along the driveway or sidewalk. The battery status bar finally dropped down to 2 of 4 lights; so I charged it up to give the battery charger one more test before the 30 day exchange period with Amazon ends. I have not experienced any more slow downs. I suspect that was caused by clogged air vents. I used the edger for the first time last week; just pushed the big button on the shaft near the motor and the shaft pivots 90 degrees. The wheel rolled smoothly and the angle of the shaft was perfect as it gave me a good view of the cut. It was much easier than I thought and produced consistent results; far better than the free-hand edging method I have been using for years. I have already used all the string on the one spool and inserted the free second spool (BTW - easy to change). I went to Home Depot and purchased a 300' re-fill package of the .65 blue line to re-fill the spools as needed. For ~ $7, I have enough line for years. However, the real shining star is not the trimmer, but the 6AH Lithium-Ion battery. The capacity is perfect for all but mega-size yards. I received the Greenworks 24602 blower for Father's Day; it uses the 20V/6AH Li-Ion battery from the trimmer. Now I can trim the yard and use the blower to clear off the grass clippings from the driveway and sidewalks. The blower with this battery makes it very convenient to use and makes it more versatile. For example, I used it to blow dry my car after I washed it (beats ringing out drying clothes). I also opened the car doors and blew out some dog hair and dust from inside the car. I would buy the Greenworks chainsaw (also uses the same battery) to cut up the many small limbs that blow down after a storm. Unfortunately, the current $69 10-inch chainsaw is too expensive and large for what I need. A 6-8 inch model (with a lower cost) would be ideal to cut up limbs and small tree shoots into small enough pieces to toss them in a trash can. Bottom line: "It's the battery stupid" (I think that's a Bill Clinton quote); the fully capable string trimmers (either the Greenworks or Troy-Bilt) and leaf blower only exist because of it.

This review is from: Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I was waiting to see whether anyone reviewed this new trimmer before buying it, but decided I couldn't wait any longer and took the plunge. It replaced a terrible corded trimmer that I had to take apart every few minutes to fix the string. The Greenworks with Lithium Ion battery works beautifully. The battery was still at fairly high capacity after about 45 minutes of trimming. Out of the box, the trimmer makes a good impression. It's solidly built. The instruction manual isn't very good (lots of repetition in the safety warnings and poorly written assembly instructions), but assembly and operation were easy to figure out anyway. I was concerned that the trimmer would feel heavy with the battery attached, but that wasn't a problem at all. Switching from trimming to edging is a snap. I love the automatic advancement of the string (especially after my old nightmare of a trimmer). The manual warns the user to keep an eye on the string after turning off to make sure that it hasn't receded too far, but so far that hasn't been a problem. I was worried that the trimmer wouldn't seem very powerful, but it had plenty of power for my needs. I have a large garden with a lot of edges to trim. No problem with the Greenworks!
Four months later (August 2010) and I still love it. I just ran out of the string on the first spool. Changing it was easy. I dropped the battery on the hard pavement and was worried I had ruined it, but there seems to be no problem--I just spent 45 minutes edging my garden and the battery still works great. I also bought the blower that uses the same battery--another great purchase!

This review is from: Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I unpacked and assembled the weed trimmer the same day it arrived. Easily done. During the first and only time I was able to use it, the weed trimmer began to smoke in less than 20 minutes of use. I let it cool off and tried again. It wouldn't run more than about 10 seconds so I gave up.
The manual says not to use the machine if it smokes. The manual has only a phone number to use to contact Greenworks. There is no mailing address, fax number or email address. I called the Greenworks number to talk about the warranty. After a 12 minute hold, I told a person about the problem. I was told that someone would call me within an hour for a "resolution." After two days without a call from Greenworks, I called again. This time I was on hold for 15 minutes when I gave up. I never heard from Greenworks after my first call. I then used the order confirmation email from Amazon to contact Amazon by email about the problem. That same day Amazon sent a new weed trimmer by overnight mail, even though I only paid for the lowest cost delivery on the original order. Amazon gave me about 30 days to return the old weed trimmer or I would have been charged for the replacement weed trimmer. My conclusion is that the warranty by Greenworks is worthless but Amazon stands behind the product. I haven't had any problem with the replacement weed trimmer. It has almost as much power as a gas trimmer, as other reviewers said. I used it on thick grass under my wrought iron fence where the grass was about 10 inches high. It worked well. So far, I used it about an hour and still had about 25% charge remaining in the battery. The second time I used it there was 50% charge remaining after about 45 minutes. I am pleased with its performance. The battery charged in about two hours when it had 25% charge remaining. The battery moves easily from the charger to the weed trimmer. I'm going to give it five stars because of its performance, including that of Amazon. If Amazon had not sent a replacement so quickly, I would have given it one star.

I bought this to replace a B&D yard hog trimmer which worked ok but was a hastle to edge with and went through string like it was going out of style. I docked one star because of build quality, some of the molded plastic pieces don't quite fit together well and the handle feels flimsy. As far as function for my needs it beat expectations, I was afraid it would be top heavy with the battery but it is balanced pretty well. I don't have a huge yard and this trimmer has more than enough power to get it done, the edging feature is quite nice as well as the auto line feed and the freedom of not being tied to a cord is great. I couldn't find it listed anywhere when I bought the trimmer but it takes .065 line.

I love this product. I live on a small farm so it gets heavy use. The battery lasts longer than I do, so I never have to worry about stopping prematurely. It has a hard time with some types of tall grass (I'm talking 2.5 to 3 ft "barn grass") because the grass wraps around the spindle, but you have that problem with any weedeater (trust me, I know). Other types of tall grass (fescue) it handles much better, you just have to go slow. It's dynamite with reasonably length grass and easily handles thick grass up to about 2 feet tall.

Overdue update:
Sorry I didn't update this review sooner. We eventually reached the point where both Greenworks and we knew that the service center was the problem. When they finally called us to say they had our parts, my husband picked them up and came home with a new ni-cad battery and charger, not the lithium battery. I contacted Greenworks again and they warned me not to use the Ni-Cad battery with our trimmer, which is designed to use the Lithium battery. I explained that I did not want to deal with the horrible service center anymore and Greenworks sent a new battery and charger directly to us. Problem solved. The company was very good to work with, the service center was horrible. 7-5-11 update: After spending much of the day on the phone with Greenworks and the service center, I'm still unsure where the problem stems from. Greenworks said the 20-volt battery and charger were never on backorder. Service center who recently told me there was no ETA on the replacement parts, says they received the battery today but not the charger. Greenworks says both would have been shipped at the same time. Service center says they order through a distribution center, not directly from Greenworks. Service center says the charger is being shipped today so it sounds as though we could actually have our products back in the near future. At the moment, I have no idea who dropped the ball, but I'm frustrated that I have had to spend so much time to get to this point. Of course I still don't have our trimmer, battery and charger and I've not made friends at either Greenworks or the service center in the process. This should NOT be this difficult! Update after waiting several weeks: We took the trimmer, battery and charger to the service center in early May. They determined that both the battery and charger needed to be replaced and are still waiting for the parts from Greenworks. We checked with them several times and were told they were waiting for the replacement parts. After many calls to the service center, they contacted the company to get an ETA on the parts and were told there is NO ETA. They don't know when they'll have them to ship. Unfortunately, I had also purchased a pole saw and blower that use the same battery. All of them are now useless and we have no trimmer. When it worked, it was wonderful - but Greenworks customer service is extremely disappointing. We certainly expected the product to function for more than the few times we used it last year. Update - nearly a year after purchase: Everything was great last year with no problems. We didn't use it many times, but it always performed well when we did use it. The trimmer, charger and battery were stored inside over the winter. Trimmer in the garage, battery and charger inside the house. This spring, the battery does not fully charge or hold a charge like it should. I contacted Greenworks customer service this morning, less than a week before the one year warranty on the battery expires. They directed us to a service provider less than 10 miles from us. My husband just delivered then entire product (trimmer, battery, charger) to the service center for diagnosis. We absolutely loved this thing when it worked well, but are not overjoyed by having problems after so little use. Original Review: In my opinion, this is the perfect trimmer. It's lightweight, powerful, cordless and requires no gas or pulling to start. The product arrived with the battery partially charged so I tried it out before setting the battery up to charge fully. It's a great little machine. Our late trimmer was a gas, 4 cycle monster. I could not start it or carry it. My husband complained about the weight, even with the strap on. Horrible thing. After trying unsucessfully to use the monster gas trimmer, I picked up an inexpensive cordless electric a few years ago. It would barely cut grass and turned out to be totally useless. I'm so in awe of this trimmer that I plan to get other tools that use the same battery and pick up an extra battery. I hate using gas tools and our yard is too large for corded tools. Thank you Amazon and Greenworks!

This review is from: Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger (Lawn & Patio)
Background: We are on 4 acres and own a gas-powered John Deere trimmer, which works great. However, with two young boys and neighbors who also have young children, really hated the noise it made. The smoke/smell wasn't much fun either, so wanted to try something quieter. Bought my father a B&D battery-powered trimmer which he loves, but he is on 1/2 an acre... and the NickCad battery that drives it would not work on a big property. Researched battery types, and LithIon seemed the way to go, which narrowed my choice. Tried to post a good resource in this review, but Amazon took it out. Google "NiMH vs. NiCad vs. Li-Ion" and you should get some good info.
The reviews posted here were a big help, and based on the Amazon return policy (and our history of A+ experiences with Amazon) made the purchse despite a seemingly high "Lemon Rate" of ~ 20% and a lack of customer service from Greenworks. Ordered the product Tue, June 8 and it was delivered here in northern MD on Friday, June 11, despite the est delivery date via Amazon of June 14. Very easy to put together (1 phillips screw to remove, put the trimmer head on, and then put the screw back in). The battery was 3/4 charged and gave it a test spin, and everything seemed fine. Came with an extra spool of string. For some reason, I thought this was a dual-string trimmer, but it's just one string. Today (Sat) I gave it a hard workout after charging the battery... primarily cos I wanted to push the envelope in case there was an inherent problem... and if there was, I wanted to find out within the 30-day Amazon return period. After trimming just about everything on our 4-acre lot (dozens of young trees, bushes, and Leylands), the battery was still 3/4 charged. Total time out in the field was probably 30 minutes, and roughly 20 minutes of that was actual running time. I think we have a winner. - Plenty of power to handle even the thickest tall grass and mature weeds - If the gas-powered trimmer's "power" was rated a 10, then I'd give this an 8 or 9. Not much drop off. - You do need to keep an eye on the air vents located on the head of the unit. Good advice! - I would not use this in a dusty/dirt environment, cos all that dirt is just gonna end up in the motor - The auto feed worked great, but if you start and stop alot, you'll probably burn thru some serious string - The device is easily balanced and much lighter than my John Deere - My wife and kids were outside the whole time, and she marvelled at how quiet it was ("sounds like your power washing") - One drawback so far: If taller grass gets wrapped around the drive shaft, it is a bear to get out due to the design. FYI. If there are any other issues, I will certainly pass them along. My prelim vote is that this is a wonderful trimmer than can be used on even the biggest yards. The high lemon rate is something to be aware of, which is why if you decide to buy, Amazon is the way to go (do you have a choice?) UPDATE from May 2011: Season 2 with the trimmer... and am still very happy with it. Thankfully, no issues with the battery or motor. Ran out of string, but was able to find the 0.065" at Home Depot... and was easy to restring. Knock on wood, but the "So Far, So Good" idea still holds.

This review is from: Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger (Lawn & Patio)
I have been using a Black and Decker battery powered trimmer for several years and have always had the following complaints: 1. The battery would only last for 20 minutes of trimming when new and would degrade from there over time. 2. The only battery available was Ni-Cad which is an issue when you need to get rid of one. 3. The motor would slow down within 2 minutes of initial use and would then gradually keep slowing until the battery was exhausted.
The motor on my current Black and Decker was going bad (bearings) and so I needed to replace it. I first looked at Black and Decker because I was positive they would have come out with a Lithium battery by now, Wrong! So, I did a search on Amazon and found this Greenworks unit. The company is based in NC (as opposed to a couple of comments that placed the company in Canada) and it is a privately held company. I did look them up and wrote to the company using e-mail asking about them since I could not find a listing in public or international corporations (their website lists an International Office in China). The company responded in two days to my e-mail to let me know that they were a private company and that was why they were not listed. So, I decided to go ahead and order the unit and try it (Amazon has a Great return policy). I am very glad that I ordered the unit! First, I was impressed with the quality of build of the unit. They did a very nice job with the design. The motor housing is not as large as the one on the Black and Decker, but it appears to have as much if not more power. The charging unit is large and well made (compare that to the cheap little unit that Black and Decker supplies) and it also provides a visual indication of when the unit is charged and when it is charging. The charger is wall mountable, which is a nice feature if you do not have a lot of work bench spaceto place it on. The only tool you need is a philips screw driver to install the one retaining screw for the saftey shroud. Other than that, the unit goes together without any tools and it took all of about 5 minutes from start to finish. The battery has an indicator on it (push a button and a row of LEDs light up to indicate the charge level)that should only be used as a rough indication of charge level. The instructions tell you to charge the battery before use, which I did. The battery indicated full charge after about 60 minutes. I then went out and trimmed both my front and back grass area (that would have taken three batteries with my old Black and Decker) and the battery still indicated it had 50% remaining! As well, the battery kept the speed of the edger at full speed for the entire lawn trimming!! That alone made the work go much faster as the full speed of the line cutter cut faster than the slower speed that the Black and Decker unit provided. I then went out and trimmed the grass again a few days later without recharging the battery. I made it though the second trimming without the battery going dead. I then went and trimmed a strip of my neighbor's grass and managed to run the battery out of charge. I had no idea the battery was going dead until the unit just stopped! There is NO slowing down of the motor, it just quits when it is out of charge. I put the battery back on the charger and it was fully charged in about 3 hours. That is much better than the charge time for the Black and Decker unit which required overnight charging. Basically, this battery lasted for what would have taken 6 batteries with the Black and Decker unit and did a much better job of trimming the grass. The automatic feed with this unit works different than the Black and Decker unit in that it feeds line out when you start up the unit. If you need more line, you need to stop and then start the unit back up for it to feed out. The Black and Decker would feed line on its own schedule while you were using it. I find that I am using much less line with this unit and that I have control over how much line I use. Between the Black and Decker and the Greenworks unit, I do not think there is much weight difference, but I like the feel of the Greenworks unit much better. I find it to be easier to use over a long period of time. The wheel that they supply provides a lot of support when edging and does not appear to add to the weight of the unit. While the price of this unit starts out much higher than a Black and Decker unit, it is cheaper if you look at the number of batteries that you have to have on hand to cut the same amount of area. I had three batteries in order to edge my lawn (each additional battery adds another $50 to the price of the Black and Decker unit. Doing that actually makes the the Greenworks unit cheaper. Besides that, it cuts faster and does a better job which all by itself would convince me that it is worth the price.

When I unpacked this trimmer I was a bit surprised to find that it's a single line trimmer. I was a bit upset at myself for not looking at the picture close enough and thought this thing was going to be a dud. I couldn't have been more wrong because this thing kicks a**.When I was putting this together (very easy), I couldn't help but notice right away that the build quality of this trimmer is very good. Everything seems well placed and simple. The 20 volt lithium-ion battery feels heavy when holding it in your hand but when it's mounted on the trimmer the whole unit feels light and well balanced. No arm fatigue. I've used this trimmer 3 times now on my average sized yard (roughly 900 sq feet) and I've been pleased all three times. As a trimmer this thing really shines. The .065 trim line, although only a single line, really whips around at a very high rpm (8000 rpm according to the owner's manual and brother I believe it). The trimmer cuts the grass around my sprinkler heads neatly and quickly without damaging my sprinklers. It trims up against the house very neatly and effortlessly without knocking any stucco off. Trimming around my trees trims the grass but doesn't knock any bark off. The auto-feed function seems to work very well and I have had no problems with it so far. When I was shopping for cordless trimmers I narrowed my choices to this trimmer and the Black & Decker NST2036, but the B&D is a bump feed system and I hate bump feeders.) What surprised me was how good of an edger this trimmer is. A simple button-push and rotation of the trim head and you're in edger function. The string shroud has a little wheel that you can roll along the sidewalk while you're edging. It's a bit flimsy but it serves it's purpose. There's no edge guide so you have to eyeball the string to the edge of the lawn yourself and you'll encounter a little drift but this trimmer really does a great job of edging if you can control the drift. I'm getting rid of my electric power edger. The 20 volt lithium-ion battery is a real performer. As mentioned, I've used this 3 times now and I still haven't re-charged the battery. The battery capacity indicator is a simple button push to see how much battery juice you have left and after 3 uses, I still have half my capacity left. That's from an average usage of approximately 15 minutes per use. I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a bit pricey but hey ... no one made me buy it. I highly recommend this trimmer. It's a great performer but I wish it were about $30 cheaper. UPDATE 9-24-11: The battery after a couple of summers has not stood up and for that reason, I changed my rating to 3 stars. I live in a place, like most people, where I don't need to trim all year long. Hence, the battery sits in its charger unused for a few months. Green power is not necessarily efficient power. What I've noticed is that if you do a battery check and the indicator says the battery is still half charged, what that really means is that the battery is getting ready to die. Also, as the battery is losing its power, the trimmer does not run slower to give you a clue, but rather it runs full blast right up until it decides to stop running. That's when you know it is time to place the battery on the charger again; the freakin thing just quits amid full spin trim. The glorious full charge that trimmed my entire lawn when I first bought this unit has now become a two charge trimmer. Now I have to trim my yard until the battery gives out, then place it on the charger while I'm mowing, then finish up my trimming after the mowing is done, after which the battery recharged sufficiently by then. It's still a pretty good trimmer and I like how it performs as a trimmer and edger, although the auto-feed has stopped working. Now I have to click the feed button with my finger and pull the line out to the proper length. Inconvenient but not awful, it only takes a few seconds. Just don't expect much from the battery after the first year. Rechargeable batteries suck for that reason. Green power ... pffttt!

It Doesn't Work and Poor Customer Service,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger (Lawn & Patio)
Based on the reviews of this Greenworks string trimmer, I ordered it and had it delivered last week. Assembly of the trimmer itself was easy. As the directions state, I charged the battery for 24 hours. However, when I popped the battery in and tried to use the trimmer, it didn't work. The battery has a charge indicator button; it indicated that there was no charge. I tried moving the charger to a different outlet, popping the battery in and out a few times... it still wouldn't charge. So... I called the Greenworks warranty number this morning, and the customer service rep was just awful. I got the distinct impression that they didn't want to stand by their warranty. First, she told me I should return the trimmer to Amazon. But, as of this morning, the trimmer shows that it's out of stock. Then she told me I should take it to a service center and gave me the telephone number of the closest one. When I pointed out that the warranty specifically states that Greenworks will replace the battery at no cost, she reluctantly agreed to send a new battery. However, because they're located in Canada, it will take 7-10 days for shipping. I'm disappointed in this manufacturer's lack of customer service.
