Her first book?,
By
This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
It's hard to believe that this is a first effort. An expertly woven tail, with the essentials to capture even the most reluctant reader.
Raised in the south, I recognized someone I knew on every page. I even had my own Marsha Jean. However, this is not a story of my south of yesterday, but of today's, with a mystery that binds together an intricately woven tapestry of southern life, southern lives, and southern people. People living their lives as only those of us in the south can, but, as always, with a twist.

Truly Inspired!,

This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
In a world filled with messages of dread and woe it was wonderful to read an inspiring message of hope and personal integrity. I am sure that many of today's youth will identify with Jess-Abe (Jazz) and his struggle to find himself in a world that seams to always be giving him a raw deal. But Jazz does not have to face this world alone. He has two immovable sources of hope that will help him to see that "Everything is going to Be All right!" The first is his personal faith in God; passed down to him by his mother, who was ever optimistic even up to her passing from cancer. And second is his always supportive and constantly inspiring mentor Mary "The Wal-Mart Greeter". I enjoyed this fast moving and inspirational book and look forward to many more to come from Dr. Mary Ellen Cooper.

A Ray of Light, warming.,

This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
I had the honor to attend a book launch event with a local author, Mary Ellen Cooper. She awed me with her spirit. Rest assured, anyone on a spiritual quest will know her, by heart. There is no doubt that her name will be well recognized and smiled upon. If you are searching for a heart felt journey, share her journey, read her book, and get to know HER. It was indeed, my blessing.

Spiritually Uplifting!,
By
This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
Mary Ellen Cooper's first book will certainly not be her last! I am looking forward to the sequel to The Greeter as I know there is much more to learn about the characters. I could identify with the characters in the book very much even though I was raised up North. I felt a spiritual connection to Jazz and The Greeter as they faced life's adversities with hope and faith. Mary Ellen has also had a personal impact on my life, and her book launch program and reception helped me realize everything IS going to be all right in my own life, personally, professionally and spiritually! The Greeter was most uplifting, and personally rewarding to read. Thank you, Mary Ellen, and start working on that sequel!

Plesantly addictive!,

This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
I am hooked! I need to know more! I feel Jazz and Mary are my friends and I need (not just want) to know what is happening to them. I want to call them and stop and visit them at Wal-Mart. I don't believe I can wait very long. When did you say Greeter 2 is going to be released?
The book is charming and addictive. I couldn't put it down until I had finished it, but then as soon I had read the last sentence I felt sad -- I was done -- Jazz and Mary are no longer a part of my life. I felt the kind of sadness you feel when you move and leave good friends behind. You know you want to get to see them as much as you used to and are afraid you will lose them forever. I will never look at a greeter or cart boy the same. No, that is wrong. I probably never really looked at them. Now, I will never fail to look at them and wonder what their life is like. I want Greeter 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc...... tomorrow. Mary Ellen is a super writer and a great story teller. This book should be featured on Oprah soon!

Wal-Mart Associate Approves,
By
This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
I loved the book. It was refreshing to have Wal-Mart portrayed so positive, especially since the media is always trying to find the negatives. The book was especially interesting since it took place in the south. I am also a Wal-Mart associate so I loved the way everything intertwined with Wal-Mart.

The Greeter - what a book!,
By
This review is from: The Greeter: The Case of the Missing Sweet Potato (Paperback)
The Greeter was what a book should be - entertaining, thought provoking, uplifting, and delightful. There is enough heartache and darkness in our lives without needing to fill our time by reading more of it. I hope this is not the last we will read of Mary Ellen Cooper's work. It was one of those books where you feel sorry when it comes to a close. Bravo!

In the hectic world of today, it was a joy to escape to Cumberland Woods and read The Greeter by Mary Ellen Cooper. The characters are delightful and the story will warm your heart. It reminds me of the rural Alabama community where my father grew up - where there was a "store" and church was the social event each week. If you like Southern stories, this is a must read!!! I look forward to the sequel!!!

Highly Enjoyed The Greeter!,

I was fortunate enough to read an early release copy. The characters were well written, I felt as if I knew a lot of the them. I could tell the writer knew the subject matter personally, a hometown southern tale. I enjoyed the hopeful relationship between Jazz and Marsha Jean. We all need someone to look up to, for Evanston, GA that is The Greeter at their local Wal-Mart.
I purchased a copy at a signing on Saturday, March 19th at The Gallery by The Sea in Tybee Island, Ga off the coast of Savannah. It grabbed me from the first page, and I couldn't put it down until I finished it! A light, summer read with a little mystery, too! I also enjoyed meeting the author. The first chapter is posted at www.thegreeterbook.com I highly enjoyed it and recommend it. TWMA! (You'll understand after you read The Greeter) Bill |
