Okay, David Lindley is not here, but other than that Darrow & Feldthouse ensure that this is another Kaleidoscope trimuph of world music meeting west coast hippy sensibilities. I don't give 5 stars often, but this album was simply one of those delightful instances where high expectations were met or exceeded. Musicianship is first class as usual in this recording made to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the release of their first album Side Trips back in the sixties as stated in the nice liner notes. "Jungle Hop" starts the recording off with an infectious beat inspired by a Pasadena R&B duo and there is a great Leiber & Stoller tune, "Down In Mexico" and a Duke Ellington number "Wild Man". There is Persian music, "Layla, Layla", Flamenco music "Gitano Fino", African folk "African Marketplace" and a 60's psychedelic classic "Talk, Talk" originally performed by the Music Machine. Whew! Not an album I listen to everyday, but a real treasure to savor when you want to step outside the mainstream.
