Editorial Reviews

Greetings from Havana is the follow-up to the internationally acclaimed cross-over album, Mardi Gras Mambo "Cubanismo" (in New Orleans, Billboard Top World Music Albums #9.) Due to constant world touring, this is the first album of new material from Cubanismo in over 6 years. It represents the evolution of the band through that time. Recorded at Abdala Studios in Havana, Cuba's finest studio. This album exhibits all the fire and swing that defines traditional Cuban dance rhythms while also allowing its players the freedom of a jazz-style jam session resulting in fabulous big band sound with absolutely red hot solos.

A lot of complex ingredients combine to birth the easy naturally fluid beauty of great salsa. This beautiful, happy and rich cd of excellent music I honestly listen to at least once a day, to get me through the Miami grind. Greetings from Havana is an intellectual musical oasis from my routine commute on buses trains and metromovers full of people yelling on cell phones, "unstable" folk, loud perfume wearers, and all the other intrusions of my personal space.

I almost feel like one of snow white's dwarves merrily taking care of business, because every song is happy and city-full of little avenues of musical stimulation that I dissect carefully with my great headphones that block all outside background noise. Not complex as in Calculus, because the mathematical formulas in music are a joy to figure out. Think Claude Bolling - Picnic Suite.

At work, Tio Tony feels obligated to let me know that Cuban Salsa is the first and the best. I love and appreciate great salsa from all origins. He shares with me 100's of cd's which many have signature of dedication to him. We dance and sing, and are glad be kindred spirits. He tells me when I return to Paris for good he has a list of Cuban musicians he wants me to hook up with musically. I can't wait.

Every time I listen to each song, I discover something I missed the last time around. I privately dedicate each song to a different person, activity, or philosophy, or just a personal part of the day.

I also recommend the Adolescents Orchestra for powerfully intricate instrumentals, and passionate vocals. Ruben Gonzalez for traditional piano/beautiful salsa.

Let "Greetings from Havana" make you happy;)
