I have all of Greg Gorman's books of photographs. I believe him to be the greatest portrait photographer of our time and one of the few that I would label as highly serious about the portrait. His photographic style is his "signature" and his has not changed in decades. Why change something that works! This is his best book of them all. I have spent hours with it already.

This book is not just for people who enjoy celebrities. It is for amateur and professional portrait photographers who want to study serious lighting, mood setting and the capture of character. This book would be a great contribution to this genre if all of the subjects were unknowns. That the subjects are celebrities simply adds to the interest.

I would have bought this book just for the seven portraits of Alex Pettyfer that close it, but luckily the whole book is just beautiful. Gorman is an amazing photographer- he has the gift of making you feel has if you can see right into his subject's soul.

In their youth is a superb time capsule of beautiful young men - many of them actors - whose photographs date back, in some cases, to the 1970's. In his introduction, Greg Gorman states "Throughout my career I have found that I have achieved my most telling, significant pictures when I got in close with a long lens."
And what a collection of significant photos he has offered up. Impossibly clear complexions, crystalline eyes and superb physiques - this is a terrific collection, at a very reasonably price.
It would make an excellent gift for someone special to you - and has a photo index at the back for easy identification of the more than 200 black and white photos on offer.

I will openly admit I purchased this book purely for the photographs of Alex Pettyfer. The whole book as a whole is beautiful, I had hoped that it would have contained the photographer's impressions/thoughts on each of his subjects, but overall, the book delivered well executed photographs of beautiful men in their youth.

Greg Gorman is a fantastic photographer. In Their Youth is a wonderful collection of many men in their younger years. Brings back memories. I actually bought it as a gift for a friend. Needless to say I had to go through it before wrapping it up.
He was very happy with the book.
Greg Gorman photography really needs no introduction. When you see his name on the work, you know it is going to be good.

...by a true master.

The book could have been slightly larger, but it is still very elegantly executed. The theme is male-only. I would recommend this book to anyone, who would be interested in portrait-photography that is realized and captured with dramatic lighting.

The images look very pure, effortless and timeless.
