5.0 out of 5 stars Great day pack
Great day pack. I bought it to carry my DSLR around along with a few lenses, a jacket, water and snacks for every day adventures. It works great for bike rides, as well as trail hikes. I especially like the three-point "cinch" system that lets you snug the pack as you drink water or remove items from the numerous compartments. The outer shell is thin and light so I use...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too small
In terms of quality, looks, comfort, waist/chest straps, neat compartments, etc, this is great. I wear it on my uphill bike commute to school and work and it feels like I'm not even hauling any weight. Also does a great job of keeping water out during downpours.

Unfortunately it's a smaller pack than I realized in terms of how wide the main compartment is. It...

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was hoping for, August 5, 2009

I wanted a lightweight day pack for hiking and occasional biking. This pack fit the bill. I like the lightweight but durable nylon material it's made from, and it has plenty of pockets--some expandable--all over for various items like sunblock, keys, telephone, water, food, etc. I like also that it accommodates a hydration pack well. The straps are adjustable, and the waist belt takes the weight off my shoulders well during hikes. This pack could even be used for a one-night overnight hike in the summer or a warm climate, I imagine. Overall, I am very happy with it.

This is a great little day pack. I just received mine and went on a quick 6 mile hike up in Zions. The pack worked flawlessly, no hot spots, easy access, and handled everything that I wanted to carry ... great day pack ... way to go Gregory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent City Pack, Too, January 1, 2011
This review is from: Gregory Miwok Active Trail Backpack (Sports)
I came upon this Gregory Miwok pack by sheer luck when I was shopping Gander Mountain and it's the same price minus the sales tax on Amazon. I needed a day pack for city travel and walks--I'm an urban hiker, you could say, particularly in Chicago. But I like that this pack is super lightweight ripstop material, and handy to add to the suitcase for trips. From the pack label, this baby is .71 kg/ 1 lb. 9 ounces. It's 1090 cubic inches volume. It's rated for comfortable packing weight of 20 lbs. Mine is cayenne color. It has a place for your hydration bottle and hydration ports for the tubing to go into the shoulder straps. It has a chest strap, which is necessary but lacking on many smaller packs. It has very large dual water bottle side netting that allows for 32 ounce Nalgene or similar type bottles. It features two (one on each side) hip belt pockets (not often found on any pack, but especially the small ones). Ideal for nutty bars, cell phone, etc. And, on the very top of the pack, there's actually a small pocket that is fully felt lined! Ideal for iPod, camera and other small delicate items.

I also own a ULA Ohm ultralight backpack which is ideal for longer hikes of 2-3 days, plus I have many small and large fanny packs including a Mountain Gear pack with shoulder strapettes. Love them all (esp the ULA Ohm - websearch that one if you are looking for a fantastic pack, has videos on youtube also), but for daily sojourns, to carry water, coats, cell phones and any purchases I make along the way, the Gregory Miwok is the bomb! I love it, and must add that it's small straps and shoulder harness system fits like a glove and keeps the pack away from your arms to allow arm swing and effortless packing. Enjoy!

Awesome pack for day use. Plenty of space to consolidate a lot of gear + hydration essentials + things you collect along the way - purchases. Great fit, comfortable, lightweight and very nice looking. Sleek! I have used it half a dozen times now for day hikes and its the pack I reach for instinctively vs. my pack sack. My pack sack is still good for the beach as there are fewer places to store windblown sand etc. But the Miwok goes everywhere else. Took it with me on hikes over the past month in Sedona, Grand Canyon, and walking the strip in Las Vegas, Joshua Tree National Park and other areas. Extremely versatile, and a good companion.

It takes me forever trying to squeeze my 15" screen laptop and a couple folders in there because it's such a narrow pack. The mesh side pockets on the outside are smaller than I thought, too. I have a wide-lip full size nalgene bottle that definitely doesn't fit in those.

So: great as a hiking/biking daypack, not so great as a commuter pack.
