This review is from: Grenada: An Eyewitness Account of the U.S. Invasion and the Caribbean History That Provoked It (Hardcover)
Today we have our own messy conflicts and occupied territories to focus on, so it is not surprising perhaps that the U.S. invasion of Grenada is seldom mentioned now. In some ways, it is perhaps better so, as very little honour redounds to the credit of any of the three main participants: the United States, Cuba or the ruling faction in Grenada at the time.
Hugh O'Shaughnessy's book seems likely to remain the definitive account of the affair, since his eye-witness experience of events on the island is well supported by patient research of a wide range of sources, and very well written by an experienced and versatile journalist. Read the book: this shabby pocket tragedy had a number of lessons to teach, and by no means all appear to have been learned. |
