Way better than any of their other efforts!This is probably the best release from Facedown to date! It's incredible. They've matured alot. An absolute must have for fans of punk and ska. Amazing! A combination of hardcore, strait edge, street, oi, and skunk is the best way I can describe this CD. an abcolute must have!!!

CNN Headline: Joe Strummer, lead singer for seminal British punk band the Clash, has died at the age of 50. Isn't it a strange coincidence that within the year of legendary Joe Strummer's death, One 21 would release their second album with Facedown records, entitled Grenade?

As One 21 has progressed from their seminal punk days (King Uzziah era), their music has begun to sound more and more like a Rancid meets The Clash plus a strong sense of their own spiritually driven flavor. Even though their progression towards this sound seemed obvious, who would have thought it would have come so quickly? In the manner of one album, they have transgressed from angry political punk to this generation's equivalent to what The Clash was in the 80s.

Any band showing this much promise this early in their career must be a promising group of individuals. Organs, ska upbeats, and plenty of acoustic segments flow throughout this album in perfect harmony with their old school punk leanings. While "Ghetto Blaster" and "There Shall Come a Day" make One 21 sound like seasoned veteran punks, "Giants In The Land" and "The Winning Team" make it clear that these boys still have quite a few tricks up their sleeve and are full of creative ideas to add to their punkish formula.

Overall, One 21 has thrown quite a wrench (or grenade in their own personal words) into the world of punk rock. While pop-punk wavers on the foundation of three chords and a whiny infatuation story, One 21 has proven to me (whether purposefully or not) that creativity in punk has been struck down, but not destroyed.

This cd is phenomenal. I've listened to their previous recordings and not been drawn in, Grenade, however,captivates my mind both for its lyrical and musical qualities. There is a lot of variation in styles and a deffinite show of craftsmanship from each member of the band. Punk like this doesn't come around everyday, when it does though, grab it while you can. So if you love the old skool punk rock, get your hands on this cd.
