Using a core rhythm team of pianist Ben Aronov, bassist Greg Cohen, and drummer Chuck Redd, Peps also employs the talents of various other associates, thereby ensuring an even richer assortment of aural flavors. -- Jazz Times

It seems that anytime traditional swing players get involved with Marty Ehrlich and his type:-), good things seem always to happen. This collaboration with Peplowski and his fellow traditional/swing players is a terrific example of that with the swing guys stretching out into, for some of them probably, uncharted terrain, and it's a lot of fun and quite intriguing, as well. All the players are on top of their game with the program maintaining a good pace and holding interest throughout. It's mixed bag with some traditional swing along with more modern compositions and ideas. Not a classic, but must it be? In this instance jazz = fun, and that works for me.
In the same vein and equally interesting and fun is Randy Sandke's "Inside Out".

Ken Peplowski performed at the 50th Anniversary of the
Newport Jazz Festival 2004 in Rhode Island. Along side the
Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra with guest soloist Jackie McLean,
Phil Woods, Ron Carter, Clark Terry, James Moody & Ken Peplowski
on clarinet in a tribute to "Dizzy, Bird, Basie and Goodman".
Wonderful performance, picked up this album as a tribute to
his clarinet that evening. Once in a life time experience.

Ken Peplowski plays here every year for the Oregon Festival of American music and he is world class jazz. He's also easily bored, he says, and this collection shows him branching out into new compositions by fellow artists. It's WONDERFUL! BUY this CD if you like jazz clarinet!

In the first dimension; Grenadilla is the name of the wood that the clarinet is produced as an instrument.

In the second dimension; Grenadilla is the name of the album that clarinets are played in a perfect manner.

And in the third one; from tradition (that is the best way for Mr. Peplowski to express himself) to avant-garde (that is the best way for Marty Ehrlich to express himself), Grenadilla is what the clarinet stands for...
