Editorial Reviews

Review

The Gretsch Book: A Complete History Of Gretsch Electric Guitars is a richly illustrated and enticing profiles of exceptional electric guitars. The narrative begins in the 1880s with the founding of the company by German immigrant Friedrich Gretsch. This well-established family owned guitar maker struck fame and fortune in the mid-1950s when it releases Chet Atkins's "signature" series of guitars. Then, in the early '60s, George Harrison played Gretsch guitars on recordings and in live performances with the Beatles -- and the company made history with all-time peak production levels. The Gretsch Book provides a backstage tour of this wonderfully inventive guitar manufacture which became known for idiosyncratic designs using unconventional colors and finishes, odd gadgetry, and unusual names (Country Gentleman, White Falcon, Corvette, Bikini, Beat, Twist, Astro-Jet, etc. ). The Gretsch Book features these and many other models from the 1940s through 1995 in rare guitars photographed specifically for this book. -- Midwest Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gretsch book!, July 22, 2010

This review is from: The Gretsch Book - A Complete History of Gretsch Electric Guitars (Hardcover)
For Gretsch enthusiasts, this book is a must. It is very concise (the actual text is 76 pages long and the remaining pages consist of interesting reference facts). However, the content is thorough and informative. The price disparity between vendors was a concern. I purchased mine in pristine shape for around $30 and some offers for the same book went for $200+! It is worth shopping around for the reasonable price of what I paid.
Own a piece of vintage Americana!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for Gretsch enthusiasts, October 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Gretsch Book - A Complete History of Gretsch Electric Guitars (Hardcover)
I bought my first Gretsch guitar about a year ago and fell in love with it. I was so enamored by the look and feel of it, I became a bit obsessed with Gretsches and soon after purchased a Gretsch White Falcon. The sections about Jimmy Webster and the inventive ideas he came up with were so fascinating I read the book 2 times in a few days. It was like reading about Q from James Bond, if Q was into guitar making! The back of the book contains a useful chart for gauging the age and origin of a lot of Gretsch models. The pictures were fantastic. I'll hang onto this book forever just based on the photos alone!
