5.0 out of 5 stars A Phenomenal Live Album!, January 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Grey Eye Glances Live (Audio CD)
This album is a huge treat! There is so much diversity but it's not "all over the place." It's a great representation of the band's talent. There's fun rock (He & She), two beautful ballads (Halfway Back and Angel), and some awesome lyrics and melodies in "Close Your Eyes," "The One," and "Chills." The song "Big Red Boat" is soooo much fun. These guys are unbelievably talented. The lead singer, Jennifer Nobel, has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard and the harmonies from the rest of the band are phenomenal. I'm getting rest of their cd's.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of both worlds!, January 19, 2004

I'm torn between whether Grey Eye Glances' CDs are the cake and the live shows the icing or vice versa. What I'm not divided on is how truly incredible their music is. GEG Live is the best of both worlds - cake and icing.
Songs such as "Halfway Back," "The One," and "The Lost Coast" draw each individual into their adaptable stories. You'll find you just have to sing along with the upbeat "If I Was" and "Big Red Boat," which capture the bands energy and talent.
If the artful, soul-searching lyrics don't pull you in, (and they will), surely the beautifully stirring vocals of lead singer Jennifer Nobel will. The band's unique approach to folk rock puts Grey Eye Glances in a category all their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great CD from a great band!, April 4, 2004

Yet another awesome offering from this incredible band. I just can't say enough good things. The new take on the beginning of Halfway Back (or is it an old take?), a version of Chills that will definitely give you chills (as if the prior version didn't!), and a lead-in to The Lost Coast that gives the song even more meaning. What awesome writers & musicians! Get this CD, then get the rest of the GEG CD's - you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grey Eye Glances!, March 11, 2008
This review is from: Grey Eye Glances Live (Audio CD)
Grey Eye Glances December, 2003, release, "GEG Live", is a sparkling new CD that captures the essence of the band's live stage show. "GEG LIVE," recorded in the spring of 2003 towards the end of the band's 35,000 mile "Voodoo Live" tour, features several new, intriguing renditions from the band's three national releases; "Eventide", "Painted Pictures", and "A Little Voodoo."

The CD kicks off with the playful, "He and She." This version sheds the electric guitar that dominates the Voodoo rendition. Next we are treated to another Voodoo favorite, "Oh No." The song was featured in one of the final episodes of the WB's Dawson's Creek last spring, and leads perfectly into the GEG classic, "Halfway Back". Many fans discovered GEG through this song in the mid nineties on radio, and this arrangement features a much more earthy feel steered by Nobel on piano. Proceeding the song "Float," Keith talks of how the song was written in Ocean City, NJ. The song bears few similarities to the "Painted Pictures" version, and is a good example of how this band allows songs to continue to evolve long past their recording. Next the band gives us a recording of "Good Folks" that many will feel surpasses the original in intensity. "The One" demonstrates Nobel's soaring lead and writing prowess. Out of the applause comes the absolutely rocking "If I Was." This song best displays the energy that these musicians bring to the stage, and is followed up with the quietest moment on the record, "Chills." The band has chosen to strip this song to its basics, acoustic guitar and three voices, and provides a haunting "pin-drop" moment. This is followed by the equally haunting ballad of northern California, "The Lost Coast," where Keith tells the story of a lost love in a small coastal town. Another GEG radio single, "Close Your Eyes," flows beautifully into the song that brought GEG into New England in the late nineties, "Angel." "Angel" displays Nobel's voice and Keith and O'Dell's harmonies swirling over the ambient landscape, and is as pleasing today as it was when it was originally released in 1997. "Even," again shows us a more fully developed version of a song that GEG fans have heard in several incarnations over the years. This sets up the listener for the big finale songs, "Big Red Boat" and "All Because of You." In "Big Red Boat" the crowd can be heard singing along and bolstering the song that has been the band's biggest radio hit to date. "All Because of You" leaves you riding off into the sunset feeling like you have truly taken a fulfilling 70 minute journey.
