Wow-Wow Blues 12. St. James Infirmary Blues Sam Lanin & his Orchestra 13. The Free and Easy 14. Dancing with Tears in My Eyes Nick Nichols & his Orchestra 15. Breakin' a Leg Memphis Jazzers 16. Don't Know and Don't Care 17. Ev'rybody Dance 18. Miss Golden Brown 19. In Harlem's Araby Big Time Trio 20. Hot Moments Levee Syncopators 21. The Rackett (and 26) 22. The Harlem Stomp Down (and 27) California Ramblers 23. Happy Days are Here Again Tracks 24 to 27 are alternate takes Grey Gull was a cheap US label that came into being in 1919, and relied for its dance band records on a small core of studio musicians that often included Mike Mosiello on trumpet, and Andy Sannella on reeds and steel guitar. Masters were issued, often pseudonomynously, on a variety of labels, including Radiex, Van Dyke, Globe, and Madison, and in England on Goodson and Piccadilly. From that bewildering assortment Jazz Oracle has assembled a fine assortment of hot sides, some of which were once attributed to King Oliver. As is usual with Jazz Oracle reissues, there is a complete discography (albeit that some personnel remain unidentified) and an illustrated liner note which provides much background information to the recordings.
