5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a one night stand (are there enough stars?)
I fell in love with this soundtrack much the way I did the tv show it goes with: slowly, surely and softly. The music featured on "Grey's Anatomy" packs a gentle punch and can blissfully remind you of why music is the only thing you can purchase that touches your heart and soul completely. Clothes, food, even books can't reach that spot deep inside you that yearns to be...

3.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack Okay - Tip for finding all the other Songs for each Season
I just listened to the soundtrack and liked a few of the songs. However, I'm a huge fan and know that there were some awesome songs I heard each week. Go to ABC's website to Grey's Anatomy and there you will find every song listed per episode for BOTH SEASONS! I'm still realing over Meridith and McDreamy's song played during their long awaited "dance" of 2 lovers.

I fell in love with this soundtrack much the way I did the tv show it goes with: slowly, surely and softly. The music featured on "Grey's Anatomy" packs a gentle punch and can blissfully remind you of why music is the only thing you can purchase that touches your heart and soul completely. Clothes, food, even books can't reach that spot deep inside you that yearns to be free.

Think I'm exaggerating? Well then, listen to the opening track "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service and tell me you don't levitate with tranquility off your living room couch...

As for the second song, the delicious "Ruby Blue" by Roisin Murphy, if you don't feel rhythym coursing through your entire body, you might consider getting a doctor to look at you.

"Song Beneath the Song" follows and continues the very mellow sounds of "Such Great Heights." Don't be scared by the word "mellow." This is the kind of peace anyone who works non-stop needs to unwind with at the end of the day. I promise you your mind won't turn to mush.

Though the overall tone of the album is set by a fairly languid pace, no two numbers are exactly the same. "Where Does the Good Go?" is a bit quirky with a persisting chorus that matches the demanding needs of the lyrics (especially with the line: "look me in the eye") while the live version of Ben Lee's fabulously pop "Catch my Disease" is light-hearted happiness.

I won't take up too much more of your time raving like a lovestruck lunatic. All I want to emphasize is how wonderful GREY's ANATOMY soundtrack is; how do you do justice to an album that features Rilo Kiley (a terrific group by the way!), Inara George ("Fools in Love" is heartbreakingly gorgeous and especially soothing during hard times), The Ditty Bops and Get Set Go all on the same project??

Even as I write this, I'm listening to the album for probably the 20th time since I got it the week before last. Beauty, sorrow, joy, peace, wacky instability ("Ruby Blue")...everything that makes the show so lovable is here on the soundtrack.

Take this home with you and be kind to it in the morning! Be careful, though, that you don't lose your heart to it too soon...

super+++tracks include: "Such Great Heights," "Ruby Blue," "Song Beneath the Song," "Wait" (you'd wait for anyone who sings like this!), "Could be Anything," "Portions for Foxes," "Fools in Love," and "Cosy in the Rocket" (a perfect closer to the album!!)

Buy right now and enjoy!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Companion to a Great Show, November 11, 2005

This collection of songs is great on many levels. First, nearly every song is hit-worthy. Unlike so many CDs, where maybe half the songs are worth ripping to your iPod (especilly TV soundtracks), this soundtrack is good enough to rip every song. Second, it opened my ears to new artists and led me to some other great CDs. Thirdly, the songs mesh so well with the television show. If you watch the show, then of course you've heard all of these songs before, and they come up in the most appropriate places. This CD is a great addition to anyone's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent soundtrack for an excellent show, October 25, 2005

Grey's Anatomy is favorite guilty pleasure. In a mere 14 episodes, the show has risen above the cliched soapy drama mold with sharp writing, intriguing storylines, multi-layered performances by a diverse and talented cast. It has reinvigorated the ensemble drama.

Therefore, it's no surprise that it's soundtrack is equally as engaging. The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights", used prominently in the show's first promotional advertisements, is an excellent opening. It is followed by the phenomenally brassy "Ruby Blue" (my eternal thanks to the music supervisors to introducing the amazing Roison Murphy into the mainstream). My favorite tracks include Rilo Kiley's "Portions for Foxes" (which was featured in the pilot episode), The Eames Era's "Could Be Anything", "Song Beneath the Song" by Maria Taylor, "Looking At The World From The Bottom Of A Well" by Mike Doughty, and what could possibly be the intern's theme, "Whatever Gets You Through The Day" by The Radio. The CD ends with an extended version of the hauntingly catchy theme song, "Cosy In The Rocket" by Psapp.

It's an expertly crafted assortment of music that is a perfect companion to an expertly crafted television show. A must for any Grey's Anatomy fan, but really, a must for anyone who appreciates good music.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this CD, but once I heard it, I fell in love with it!!! I have eclectic taste in music and, to my surprise, this has a great variety of the latest sounds that everyone would really enjoy. I am ordering several more of this CD for Christmas gifts and I know it will make others very happy listening to it. It would appeal to all ages and to those who enjoy a variety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing., August 15, 2006

I am a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy, and one of the best parts of the show for me is the music. So when the soundtrack came out, I was really excited, even though I was really only familiar with about two of the songs they included. The first time I listened to it, I fell in love with a few of the songs, but a few of the others took awhile for me to get used to. The songs are all very different, with a wide variety of sounds and voices that you don't hear much on the radio, and it works. It is now my very favorite cd and I listen to it more than the rest of my cd's combined. It's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable branching-off point for mellow indie fans, July 20, 2006

Importantly, those who sincerely dislike mellow indie rock need to seriously reconsider a potential purchase, however I wasn't much of a fan until I got my hands on this compilation. It exposed me to a great deal of talent. I've obtained many of the artists full CD's (one of the best being that of The Postal Service) and I am very grateful for this gentle and thorough introduction to the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't like this cd you're a fool, October 3, 2006
By
This review is from: Grey's Anatomy (Audio CD)
To start, I find that whenever I mention Grey's Anatomy to a co-worker or friend, they ALWAYS say, " I LOVE that show!! And the music is SOOOO GOOOOOOD!!" You can't hit the nail on the head more than that. Grey's Anatomy prides itself on good music, so to say this cd is bad, well, that's just poor taste. If you go to the Grey's Anatomy website, they go so far as to list every song they're played on every episode. If there's a song you want and you know the episode, go to the website and track it down, I promise you it will only take a few minues.
I agree with a few reviewers before me that say that this is a rather low-key cd, and the tracks are slow (but if roisin murphy's 'RAMALAMA' is a slow song, then I'm president washington!!).
When you think of this cd, you need to consider the amount of fabulous bands on the album. It's hard not to give nods to the inclusion of indie greats Rilo Kiley or Tegan and Sara. If anything else, this album is a WONDERFUL door-opener to indie music.
So, let's start with the music by snagging a few tracks to comment on:
Roisin Murphy - Ramalama
I've honestly never met anyone who doesn't like this song. I've played it for all my friends on a mix, and every one of them singled out this song as unique, fun, and enjoyable. It's upbeat with a good tempo, many layers and good hooks. Just for a fun fact, it was also featured on 'So you think you can dance' as an opening song for the competitors to dance to together.
Maria Taylor- Song Beneath the Song
This song is fabulous. It's slow-going, but harmonizing and simple, washing over you gently but mesmerizing you. The lyrics are fantastic, and it seems to have an etheral quality.
Tegan and Sara - Where Does the Good Go
A good song, but not one of Tegan and Sara's best, or the most of what they're capable of. To their credit, many of their songs have been featured on Grey's anatomy... at least 5-8 songs. If you like the Tegan and Sara track, pick up their latest release 'So Jealous.' This song is kind of a more boring one to be honest. Very simple and repetitive in many respects. But not bad.
Mike Doughtry - Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well
Mike used to be in Soul Coughing, just for a small fact. This is one of the more upbeat songs on the soundtrack, easy to get into with pop hooks. Very fun song when it all comes down to it, and a good choice for the show.
Get Set Go - Wait
This song has been featured on a few soundtracks I've seen around, and is slow and simple, with gentle singing and strumming of the guitar.
Eames Era - Could Be Anything
Catchy as anything!! You'll find yourself humming this song all the time. This is yet another upbeat song on the soundtrack. A fun song with ups and downs that remains steadily addicting the whole way through (Eames Era just released a full-length album, while this song was featured on their 2nd EP).
Rilo Kiley - Portions for Foxes
A really great song! Very Rilo Kiley, a good pop song without being too pop. Not really upbeat, but not slow in any way. A few of their songs have been on the show.
Joe Purdy - The City
Joe Purdy is good at singing slow, meloncholy songs. Again, quite a few of his songs have been featured on Grey's Anatomy as well, I believe.
Ben Lee - Catch my Disease
AGAIN, a fun, upbeat song. Ben Lee is always a good choice, and this is a particularly fun song to listen to where he even pokes fun at himself. A great song to sing along to, as well.
Ditty Bops - There's a Girl
Classic Ditty Bops, it's a bit folksy-pop and easy to get into. Sweet and fun.
Inara George - Fools in Love
A fragile, beautiful song. Very slow, very mellow, with extremely intruiging and sadly true lyrics. One of my favorites.
Psapp - Cosy in the Rockey
The Grey's Anatomy 'theme.' Psapp is probably featured more than anyone on the show. Very interesting, simple beat in the beginning that layers and has simple singing weaving through it. Mellow, but fun.
I really hope this review helps someone looking for music from the show. Grey's Anatomy has soooo many songs in it, please don't expect to buy the album and have every song that you're looking for on it. Again, if there's a song you're looking for in particular turn your heels towards the Grey's Anatomy homepage.
If you're just looking for good music and introductions to many bands that you may have never heard of, this is the album for you. You'll be sad if you miss these great indie stars.
Thanks for your time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well I loved it!, June 19, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Grey's Anatomy (Audio CD)
The first time I watched "Grey's Anatomy", I was sucked into the show by the music as much as by the writing and characters. Which has never happened to me before, to be sucked in by the music. I rarely even notice the music in other shows (except maybe "Six Feet Under"). I bought this CD as a birthday gift to myself and I LOVE every single song on it! I even love the fact that I have never heard of any of the bands on the CD, not one single band. They aren't Top Forty, they aren't over played on the radio, but yet they are gems of a find! WHERE did the people responsible for the music on the show FIND or hear of these bands?! The songs are amazing! This morning I drove off to work listening to the first song, "Such Great Heights". The sun was shining on me, it was Monday morning; the start of a new week and I thought to myself, "Today's going to be a good day!" Such is the way EVERY song on the CD makes you feel! I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for new, fresh, feel-good music. With such uplifting music, how could I NOT recommend it to people who have the same passion for incredible music?! Some reviews have stated that the music does not seem inspired by "Grey's Anatomy" and that the selections of songs on the CD do not remind them of the show. I say, just close your eyes and listen to the CD and judge it on its own merit. If you really listen to the songs instead of trying to find the show in them, you will NOT be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre omissions, October 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Grey's Anatomy (Audio CD)

Good album but where's Butterfly Boucher's "Never Leave Your Heart Alone" and Interpol's "Evil" ?

"Never Leave Your Heart Alone" was Meredith and Derek's theme song for the whole of season 1 - I mean it played every episode, so why wouldn't it be included? And "Evil" played the whole way through in the party episode. They are the 2 most recognisable songs from the series and they aren't on there. Just bizarre.

The rest are good songs though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hits Seattle like a Nail on the Head, October 30, 2005
By
roberta (Seattle, Washington, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grey's Anatomy (Audio CD)
Living in Seattle, many of the little mistakes in the television show angered me, but this didn't happen with their soundtrack. Many of the bands have some sort of root here, as the Postal Service and Rilo Kiley (both on Sub Pop's label) do have. While watching the show, I could catch myself thinking, "hey! that's on my playlist!". While the show might be a little off, like a hospital in the middle of downtown Seattle, the soundtrack gets it.
