REVIEWS:

"Mark Young is the real deal and Off the Grid proves it. A great read!" - James Scott Bell, bestselling author of One More Lie.

SYNOPSIS:

Murders, bombings and a cryptic message force police detective Gerrit O’Rourke to live Off the Grid for his own survival—and that of the nation.

MIT educated, Force Recon trained, Gerrit joined the Seattle police department seven years ago after his parents perished in a car bomb in that city. A government-sanctioned coalition recruits Gerrit to retrieve information vital to U.S. interests, where he discovers the murdered body of a scientist dumped in a Vienna, Austria hotel room. This discovery—coupled with an intercepted message about a covert operation called Project Megiddo—hurls Gerrit into an international thriller that forever changes his world.

Others emerge to aid in Gerrit’s fight. Alena Shapiro, a former Mossad agent—whose parents fled their Russian homeland to resettle in Israel—seems to watch over Gerrit like a guardian angel. Joe Costello, a cyber security specialist who promises to unlock the secrets of Gerrit’s tragic history. Hank “Redneck” Riley, a reformed Aryan racist—making amends for his past—uses his unusual skills to give these crusaders an edge against an unyielding foe. Finally, Willy Williams, former banger from San Francisco, elevates his street skills to become a formidable computer hacker.

Facing overwhelming odds, Gerrit and his small band of fighters struggle within the shadows of a global conflict. Advanced technologies are the tools; global supremacy the goal. Gerrit must learn to fight and survive in an Orwellian future that begins today.

LindaZ: This was my first book by Mark Young. I came to read it from Amazon's recommendations. I just could not put the book down. It reminded me of a Jeffrey Deaver thriller. I was sorry to see the book end and anxiously wait for the next book. After I finished it I went back and read Revenge by Mark Young and thoroughly enjoyed that book too. I love his characters and his scenery descriptions make you feel like you are part of the place. Young is on my favorite list of authors.

AvidReader: I could not put this book down! Even sleep deprived (with a two-week-old baby at home), I gave up sleep to keep reading. I could not figure out who was good and who was evil until the very last chapter, and even then the surprise twist threw me for a loop! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stretching their mind and learning about the new information technologies that are present in the world today, and are being built for the world tomorrow. Great read!!
Mystery Lover: This was a great book! Once I downloaded it to my Kindle, I could not put it down. It was exciting, suspenseful, and scary, all at the same time. I cannot wait until the sequel comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense and almost scarey story. February 2, 2012

Loved it!! This book tells a fictional story, but the author, Mark Young, totally convinced me that it could, and maybe will happen, although that may have not been his intent. He made me aware of the potential uses, good and bad, of technology. Found myself reading as fast as I could to see what happened next. Was so well written that I actually understood what was being explained about the computers, and loved the element of surprise when the traitors were revealed. The only disappointment in the whole experience is that I eventually came to the last page. Can't wait to read more of "Mr.G"!!
