Complexity, Fun an all around GREAT ALBUM,

Turning Violet is a fantastic album. The boys of Griddle have done it again since their last amazing album BEAK. Turning Violet is indicative of how a good band can evolve, explore and rethink pop music.
Melodic passages and well-thought out layers and effects are indicative of the thought that went into this album making it a joy for the casual listener as well as serious musicians alike. Songs like 'Mutiny' about a ship captain going a little mad is wonderfully poetic as well as the bass line that conjures up the rythm of swaying on the waves out at sea... The lyrics throughout the album are clever, quirky, and plain funny at times...nothing shy of philosophical wit. If I was on a ship of fools, I'd prefer to have Griddle as the resident maestros. I highly recommend Turning Violet. And the painted cover art by amazing artist Joel Elrod is simply wonderful.

Something Refreshing and New!,

There is really not enough that can be said about this band... I am so impressed with their eclectic originality. This CD became something I could not live without after having it in my car for a few days.
After listening to the CD for a few months I have grown to really love their eccentricities. After all the hype built up in my mind from listening to their CD (which took them the better part of two years to record) they came to town, and their show was even better than I expected! Their tone was great from the guitars and keyboards all night, their difficult album vocals translated well into the live set (another rarity), and their drummer kept the crowd stomping their feet with his far reaching, almost mind-altering, beats. The songs that really stood out were Conspicuous Consumption, Boxcars, and Jake's Wake. Maybe in time they'll have the chance to become "overnight" sensations!
