About the Author

It didn't take a Global Positioning System to find out that Ace Cacchiotti was a perfect fit for what was to be his destiny: From 1988 - 2008, the man who was known as "A walking encyclopedia" adopted the moniker; "Gridron Gumshoe " as he immersed himself in his passion that was the history of N.F.L. Films and the company's relationship with Pro Football. His love for his work manifested itself when he literally took up residence in the N.F.L. Films' Vault from June of 1993 to May of 1994 while working on major projects for the National Football League; such as the "100 Greatest Touchdowns" and "75 Seasons; the Story of the National Football League" Ace not only found himself surrounded by over 51,000 film cans which the late President Steve Sabol had quoted; "Each which its own unique story to tell but with the genuine love for his co - workers and most of all with the late N.F.L. Films' President. "Gridron Gumshoe "at times reads as tongue in cheek but there is no denying Ace Cacchiotti's love for his profession. From his first heartbreak when the Giants lost to George Halas's Chicago Bears in the 1963 NFL Championship to his "retirement" in March of 2008 his love for N.F.L. Films and those responsible for everlasting impressions of the visceral nature made the "Gridron Gumshoe " Pro Football's foremost film authority. Ace currently continues to work in the Pro Football Field with the retired players as he too is an honorary member and resides with his wife Susan in Riverton, New Jersey.

This is a great read for those who want an inside look at Pro Football and NFL Films in particular. Ace captures the heart and soul of his work and what he went through to become Director of Archives for NFL Films. No one before or since will have his instant recall of the history of the NFL and the obscure facts about the great game of football. This is what made him such a great asset to NFL FIlms. He was the "go to" guy for almost everything when it came to searching for that partcular piece of footage from a particular can of film. He knew where every can was and what it contained. Not on a computer, but in his head. Amazing! Steve Sabol knew his value to the company and his presence made it better.
Some great personal stories not related to NFL Films but just the love of the game and the true meaning of the word "fanatic" when it came to his beloved New York Giants.
A great book!! Nicely done Ace!!

Great book I loved reading about all the stories of each NFL season as well as the historical world events that were happening at the same time. Interesting to lean about the behind the scenes world of NFL Films as well as their President Steve Sabol . Ace sounds like the type of guy that could have been anything he wanted from pro boxer, golfer, bowler, trivia champion and even a pool hustler and been a Champion at all of them. A very interesting story I would want my kids to read when they are older to learn about following their dreams and how "Finishing Like Pro" will always lead to success.

This book is a must read for anyone who considers themselves a true football fan. Even if football isn't your thing, the way Ace ties in his own story with the progress of the the NFL leaves even the most football illiterate person engrossed. Very well done.

Reading a book written in Italics is a major headache. The strain on one's eyes is annoying at best. The subject matter should have made for a great book for NFL junkies, but Ace makes the book 80% about himself rather than the NFL Films.

From Gene Howard
As a former NFL player I enjoyed reading about the NFL. Ace did an excellent job showing what dedication and hard work can do to help accomplish individual and team goals. Great job!!!
