5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Management and Union, October 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Grievance Guide (10th ed) (Paperback)
I became a union representative and had no prior labor relations experience. This book taught me everything I needed to know to process grievances. I don't know what I would have done without it! This is a must for all labor relations professionals, union and management.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Workplace Bible for Shop Stewards and HR Managers, May 10, 2011
By
T Parker (7165 Greenbriar Drive, Southaven, MS 38671) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grievance Guide (10th ed) (Paperback)
A previous edition of this little book was immensely helpful to me years ago when I successfully advocated on behalf of employees at disciplinary hearings. Every manager and Union shop steward should study and understand the well established concepts of fairness and mutual respect discussed within.Arbiter
decisions are the basis of changing rules in the workplace. Over zealous managers would save themselves embarrassment and upper management time and money if they would learn the basics taught in this little guide. What is reasonable in each situation where management and workers differ is often unclear. Little argument exists on matters of theft and insubordination as legitimate reasons for termination, but various shades of gray exist on most other issues. Emotions cloud issues, and both sides say and do things regretted later.

This little book teaches the basics of good labor relations using established tried and true real life examples. The reader is allowed to see both sides of an issue more clearly through the experiences of those with similar circumstance in the past. Costly arbitration could often be avoided if management and labor understand and agree to the rules of mutual respect in the workplace. Reasonableness is defined herein.
