5.0 out of 5 stars The encyclopedia of knowledge about grief--a gold standard!, June 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Grieving: How to Go on Living When Someone You Love Dies (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book for ministers, counselors, or others that are helping people through the grieving process. It is also an excellent book for the person who is mourning (if they can concentrate enough to read a detailed text). I found this book to be a real life saver when I was grieving the loss of my mother. Also, it has been immeasurably helpful in my work with grieving people. This text covers a wide variety of losses and does an excellent job of explaining grief in general.

If you can only have ONE BOOK ON GRIEF--this is the one to have. My copy is irreplacable.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE Book on Grief, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Grieving: How to Go on Living When Someone You Love Dies (Hardcover)
Unlike many self-help books, this book is filled with clear, logical and well-organized practical advice. I struggled to understand a range of unexpected emotions when I lost a parent, until I read this book. I was amazed to find that the author anticipated my thoughts, questions and feelings as though she had looked inside my head. It helped to know that many others had the same experience, and the author obviously had successfully guided her patients through the process. As a lawyer, being able turn emotional feelings into logical thoughts that could be analyzed and understood brought immediate relief. The author knows her material and her advice works. Moreover, I was impressed that the book is not a "feel good" work filled with emotional stories. Every page is concise practical advice and well written.
This book should be required reading for everyone who works with the grieving. The book would also make a good gift for a friend who is grieving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book, September 19, 2011

This review is from: Grieving: How to Go on Living When Someone You Love Dies (Hardcover)
I've been through the grieving process several times. I've read other grief books and met with psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers. This book has insight that other books don't have and it covers just about EVERY aspect of grief. I highly recommend you read this book if you or someone you love is grieving, or having trouble actually grieving. I wish more people who aren't even going through grief read this so they could be more empathetic to the rest of us. Good luck with your grief...it can be a long bumpy ride. This book can help.
