Even that can be fixed by moving the elastic strap over just a tad.

I bought this case after trying the Incase folio case that sells for $60.00, as well as the Belkin Grip-Vue sleeve and the Incase bag that is made out of neoprene. While the neoprene does a good job of protecting the Ipad, I found that taking the Ipad out of the case every time I wanted to use it to be frustrating. And, I never knew where to put the bag while I was using the Ipad.

The Incase sleeve that has the built in stand is not bad, but it's quite ugly, and the material feels like the stuff three ring binders that sell for $1.99 are made of. In addition, it is quite thick, and not particularly pleasant to hold in your hand.

The Griffin Elan Passport seemed to be a good combination of being simple, decent material, and easy to carry around and access the Ipad similar to the way one opens and closes a book. After using it for about a week, I'm relatively happy with it. My biggest complaint is that it feels a bit flimsy, and offers very little protection to the Ipad. In addition, the corner straps, while they work fine, do not offer much protection to the sides of the Ipad, and they feel a bit flimsy and cheap to me. In addition, they block the volume buttons and the orientation lock switch.

The case seems to be holding up to a fair amount of use so far, and carrying it around the airport was a breeze. It fits very nicely into the pocket on the back of an airplane seat, and it's easy to open and close, so using the Ipad to quickly check emails or look things up on the internet is very convenient with this case. I think I would prefer the feel of real leather, with a bit more padding, and a better enclosure than the four small straps that hold the Ipad in place. Other than that, I still prefer it to the skins, bags, and other devices I've seen so far. I also ordered a Marware Eco-Vue leather folio case, which I should receive next week and will compare to the Griffin product once I have a chance to try it out.

I read all the reviews before buying this cover, and am surprised that no one else mentioned this fact. The strap that goes across the upper right corner COVERS BOTH THE ON/OFF BUTTON AS WELL AS THE ROTATE LOCK BUTTON. Am I the only person who sees this as problem? I have to use the cover without this strap in place. Otherwise this is a very nice leather case. I just received it so I can't say yet how it holds up over time.

I bought two other cases before settling with this one. I had to in-vision how I was going to use my iPad. I realized removing it from a case was not practical. The Griffin folio is a quality case. There are no magnets to interfere with certain apps. The interior is a faux suede and the leather is faux as well but has a rich look. The double stitching sets it off. I am very happy with this case. As for the seller, VERY fast shipping!

This is a great folio case. Finish is superb. It is very professional looking.

I want to add that the straps that other reviewers have said cover the sleep/wake button, rotation lock, volume, speaker, etc. have been updated. They DO NOT cover up those buttons any longer. The only thing covered up is the mic hole, ever so slightly. Even that can be fixed by moving the elastic strap over just a tad.

I just received this case so I cannot comment as to longevity, but it appears to be of very good quality and I can tell I am already going to like it because for me it is the best of two worlds: I can carry the iPad as a book in a padded leather folio case, yet it is really easy to get out to use, unlike trying to get it out of the Apple case.

Hope this helps.

I wanted to find a reasonably priced, well padded, and good looking case for the iPad my husband is getting for Christmas. I was so pleased to find that the Griffin iPad case, was all that and more.

When I purchased my iPad when it was first released, there were very few choices in cases, and I ended up getting an Apple Brand case, and I paid $40.00 for it online through the Apple website. This case was in no way worth $40.00!! it does secure the iPad, but there is no padding to protect it,. The griffin case is a far better product for less than half the price.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

When I purchased my iPad, I knew I wanted to use a case. Apple offered one, and I got it, but it was rather cheap looking, attracted grime, and I looked further till I found Griffin Technology's attractive new Elan Passport Folio Case. Fit and finish were perfect. The stitching on it, added a look of fine leather bound and it's it's closure tab keeps it shut.

The Elan Case comes in Black and Ecru, a vanilla color. I have the black, and really like it's feel in my hands, it opens easily, revealing a microsuede interior and slits for cards, no room for a pen. The padded exterior is nice to the touch, looks far more expensive than it's cost of $49.99. I wish it could hold up the iPad for reading or typing the way the Apple case did, that's my only suggestion for improvement.

The Passport was the first and only case I purchased. It is perfect for how I use my iPad.

It is attractive (I have received compliments), well-built and very functional. It is sturdy and does a good job of protecting the device.

The cover flips over on the back and uses the latch to stay closed while it's in use.

The volume button is partially covered by a support strap but it has never activated it nor stopped me from using it.

I use my iPad in portrait mode most of the time and the case makes a great grip for holding.

My only complaint would be the slots on the inside cover of the case. They are so tight that even my glasses shammy is difficult to put in and take out. It's a minor complaint and overall I am very happy.
