4.0 out of 5 stars No need for the "Otter" one! June 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased mine based on the video review I found on Youtube.
The OtterBox's "Defender" version is ALMOST similar to Griffin Technology's "Survivor" case. I have to say, the Defender does have a nice hard shell screen cover which also acts as a stand for viewing or typing! Besides that, it doesn't come close to the Survivor's features!

The only Cons I found with Survivor are the stand - it feels a bit flimsy, but with careful use, I'm sure it will last and the Charging Port, you can't use your docking station (I don't have a dock, so this does not really bother me at all).

The Pros I liked about the Survivor are:
- Rubberized feel/grip
- Enclosed cover - a protective screen cover that is sealed inside and DOES NOT DEGRADE the touch sensitivity of the iPad 2 screen!
- It covers all the ports such as the Sleep Button, Microphone, Headphone Jack, Volume Switch, Mute/Orientation Lock, Speaker, Charging Port, etc.

Just a side note...After installing the case, it does add weight to your iPad 2 (more muscle than fat - LOL!!). In my opinion, the weight will make you hold/grip your iPad even more.

Shipping was pretty fast! Ordered mine on June 24th and received it the next day (without upgrading the free shipping)!!!

THE BOTTOM LINE:
i HIGHLY recommend it!
remember...if you don't like it, return it!

Cheers!

4.0 out of 5 stars This thing is a tank! July 13, 2011
By Setesh
First of all, this review will not cover the seller as I did not buy it through Amazon. I paid $85 after tax for this case at BestBuy.

Pros:
Very thick protection for the entire device except the screen. See *** below
The ports seal very well, I have no doubt this case does what they say it does as far as dust/water protection.
Inner plastic shell is a very tight fit on the Ipad2, this should eliminate rubbing/wear from movement of the device inside the case.
Pretty easy to put on
Silicone layer doesn't move around due to the design.
Ports line up very well and all parts of device are covered.
I feel like I could throw this thing around with abandon and not worry that it would get injured, unless something hit the screen directly.

Cons:
Heavy. The inner plastic case is very light, but the sheer amount of silicone in the outer protective layer makes this a heavy case
Thick. Again, the sheer amount of silicone makes this a very thick case
Ports can be a major pain to open. A little trick I learned was to push on the base of the port where the flap is to open up the headphone jack port. If you have long fingernails that would work, but for us guys that port is a bear to get open otherwise.
Screen film makes an 'oil slick' look where it touches the glass, and it does not touch the glass at all near the edges. You can easily feel your fingers/thumbs pushing the film down to touch the glass. The oil slick look is pretty annoying in bright light. In the sun the gap between film and glass makes a slight mirror image effect as the light bounces between the film and the glass, this is more pronounced near the edges.
The stand is a joke. Unless your fingernails are as thick as toenails you will break them off trying to open the stand. Once open the stand is not very steady at all. It is also not built very sturdily, I don't see it lasting long, especially with the amount of force needed to open it in the first place.
The silicone section is a lint magnet. At first it actually felt kind of 'grippy', but after a day or so of use it's actually pretty slick because of all the lint it holds onto.
Screen film is very 'tacky' feeling, fingers don't slide on it very easily. Fingerprints and oil also show up much worse on this film than on crystal films

*** The screen does have a film to protect it but no hard cover like the OtterBox Defender does. So you need to make sure you take that into account when packing/storage/travel with this case.

Obviously if you want ultimate protection you are going to have to make some sacrifices. If you want to keep out dust/dirt/water you are going to have to have tight fitting covers with integrated screen films and tight fitting flaps that might be difficult to open. This case has all of these and I have no doubts it will do an excellent job of protecting my device. That is why I rated it 4 stars. It has a lot of cons, but most of them are necessary to get the level of protection this case promises. I subtracted a star for the cruddy stand and the poor fit of the screen film and it's 'oil slick' problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Survived 70 MPH Tumble January 23, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Wanted to let you know that my iPad2 just survived falling off the roof of my car at 70MPH. Yep, I left it on the roof. I put it on the roof while I strapped the kids in. Drove about three miles on twisty winding roads and then headed home on the freeway. About two miles down the road I realized I'd left it on the roof. I retraced the route and finally found it in the merge lane of the freeway. Apparently the Survivor held it to the roof until I started merging on the freeway. From where it was in the road I had to have been doing around 70 when it finally let loose. While I didn't see any tire tracks on it I was expecting the worst as I approached it. I expected to see the glass shattered and the case destroyed. The only damage was to the outer case and stand which were scuffed and the plastic case broke on one corner. That was it. The iPad had no damage. If it wasn't for the Survivor case, I'd been picking up the pieces.
