Product Description

IntelliCase is a marriage of protective polycarbonate (for the back of your iPad) and flexible TPU (to protect your Multi-Touch display). Fold the flexible cover to the back to make an upright workstand (great for reading and watching slideshows or videos), or lay it down: it creates just the right incline for touching, tapping and typing. Strategically-placed magnets in the cover activate the magnetic sensors of your iPad, to automatically wake when the case is opened and sleep when it's closed. IntelliCase's micro-textured surface is easy to grip and pampers your iPad, inside and out, awake or asleep. Griffin Technology began designing and manufacturing technical solutions with an innovative flair in 1992. Case is hard glossy plastic.

A corner of the case broke while it was being carried in a backpack (from impact of setting the bag down a little hard - not dropping the bag).

Yesterday after 9 months two of the plastic corners chipped off the case while it was sitting on my lap so the case is no longer useable.

I like the IntelliCase's design, and it works nicely as a case for the new iPad - the sleep-to-wake magnet works as advertised and the stand, once you get accustomed to it, is very useful. HOWEVER, I've had my IntelliCase for just under two months, and today the top right corner of the hard case chipped and broke for no discernible reason. There is further evidence of cracking in the same area, which leads me to believe that there may be a design flaw in the back case.

It's unfortunate, as the case itself feels good and has many of the features a user wants in an iPad case - but I can't recommend it when it starts to fall apart two months in with normal use. If this design flaw is fixed, it's a five-star product; as is, it's a two- or three-star product. Caveat emptor.

It fit my iPad 3 very well and the magnetic cover activates the sleep function as it's supposed to. Propping up the iPad with the lid works differently than with Apple's Smart Cover: you have to tuck the edge of the cover under the slot on the back to get it to hold. If you try to just fold it under the iPad, like Apple's cover, it'll just flop over.

I disagree with the assumption of a previous reviewer, in that I doubt the hard plastic rear shell will scratch the iPad. The iPad's aluminum shell is harder than the case's plastic.

My only question is how well the cover hinge will hold up over time, but I think overall this is a pretty good case for the iPad 3.

I have had this cover since it was released for the new iPad (iPad 3) and it has worked great but now the material that covers the flap has begun to separate to expose the cardboard underneath. I don't use this cover heavily, maybe once or twice a week. So if you are planning on heavy usage this may not be the case for you.

I like the form factor that the case fits, I also have the version for the iPad 2 (only slightly different) it has held up better than the latest. But I also use the iPad 2 less so it could just not have the wear that the newest version does.

I bought this case after trying a couple other cases, (casecrown trifold and speck magfolio lounge). I just wanted a simple case that I could prop up in 2 ways (slight incline for typing/reading and full incline for video viewing), that would be comfortable in my hands, and that would not add much bulk to my iPad. This case is it!

Some folks talk about durability concerns, and time will tell how well this case holds up, but I am willing to sacrifice some long-term durability for a lighter iPad case that won't get in my way. It just works without any fancy tricks or gimmicky features that might break. Just a solid case, and the hardshell portion should ensure that the once or twice that I might drop it (I just use it around the house mostly) my iPad will be protected.

Recommended!

update: after using the case for a week, here are a couple additional impressions:

- The case really is thing and light, loving how it hardly adds any bulk to my iPad
- Wear to the front flap is a bit of a concern, seeing some wear marks already, especially where the edge of the flap enters the rear shell clasp, but for me it's still worth it having a light case.
- The front flap is a bit on the slippery side. Not a big downside, but makes it a little tougher holding the iPad when the flap is tucked back, I sometimes have to reposition my hands.
- Still happy I bought the case, if you are looking for light and thin case that still has a plastic shell for protection, give this a shot!

The case, in terms of durability, seems like it could last the life of my iPad (I get the newly released model every year). As one of the reviewers mentioned, the plastic could very well scratch the back of the iPad assuming that something hard managed to get inside the case and rub against the iPad. The stand functionality could be better. It isn't completely stable and wobbles if you touch the screen. Overall the case is good, but not worth this amount of money. The plastic case given (if sold separately) can be purchased for a measly $4.00 and the cover (generic brands) could be purchased for $15-20.00. So it's really not worth buying it just because it's from Griffin.

My title sums it up. It doesn't add much weight or bulk to the pad, the back is really rigid and durable, it's easy to carry, looks classy, the magnet works great to turn the pad off when you close the cover, the fit is nice and snug so there's no worry of it popping out, and it wasn't too expensive. I don't throw the pad around like an idiot but I do use it heavily so I know the case works and it works well.

With the introduction of the iPad 2, Apple came up with the smart cover design, which was good because it kept the device thin. However, it really made it difficult to prop up the iPad for reading and the magnets constantly were coming off.

I really like this case a lot, because it does not add a lot of thickness to the iPad, but gives the flap on the back, which allows you to tuck the cover into the back and create the angle to prop the iPad up, like you could do with the original iPad case. Also, the cover seems to stay in place on the iPad front better and absolutely doesn't come off unless you pop the iPad out of the plastic backing.

It does have an overall plastic feel to it, which is fine on the back, but would have been nice if the cover flap was cloth or leather instead of plastic.

My wife and I both got one of these, and we did each have different issues with it that started after about 6 months of use, causing us to both get new ones. Mine was a minor one, where the cover flap started to "fray" and the edges actually opened, revealing the inner plastic pieces. I used it this way for several weeks. My wife's issues were a bit different, and really aren't necessarily the fault of the cover. First, she dropped her iPad and the plastic backing chipped off. This is probably a benefit, because the iPad itself was not damaged. She got a new Intellicase, and when trying to "pop" it into the new plastic backing, she must have pressed on the front of the iPad too far from the corners, because she actually cracked the screen. Apple replaced the iPad for free, but just be careful getting the iPad into the plastic case.

With that said, I have not had any problems getting it in and out of the case, just carefully insert it by applying pressure right near the edges.
