5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Love Story from the 70s, April 2, 2007

This review is from: Griffin and Phoenix - A Love Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I watched this movie when I was a young girl and I fell in love with its simple, yet heart-breaking story. One of my favorite scenes is when Griffin paints "Griffin loves Phoenix" on a water tower. I also liked the last hospital scene when Griffin goes to see Phoenix during her chemo treatment (I believe). I won't give away all the details but I will say that it's a VERY SAD moment in the picture.

This movie is highly recommended for anyone who still believes that love is worth the gain, as well as the pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best movie "Columbo" ever did, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Griffin and Phoenix - A Love Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have watched all the Columbo seasons on DVD lately and still his star performarence of all times MUST be Phoenix and Griffin.Especially that last scene where , as far as I remember, it's 20 years ago I saw the movie, Peter Falk discovers a flat tire after Jill Clayburgs funeral and just start smashing the windshields of the other parked cars. He is just so mad at God that he could explode. But instead of blowing some innocent person away he let his steam come out this way. ********** maximum number of stars, movie, period. ( I have cancer myself but is recovering).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Tear Jerker, ever, November 6, 2010

I heard today of passing of JILL CLAYBURGH and thogh she made alot of movies this one was the one
I remembered best. I was a young medical student and watching this film ,I think, played a big rule on how to approach this darn disease and other near death situations. My favorite scene is when the painter paints over the words they had written on a tall water tank; Griffin loves Phoenix. And RIP Jill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable, February 25, 2008

I saw this movie on TV maybe late 80s early 90s and never forgot it. It was sad, funny and most of all, it made you think about life and death. I sit in front of my TV these days and constantly wonder what in the world is going on with these people who are scheduling programs - most of what they give us is garbage and endless reality shows. Why not re-run some of those old and wonderful films.
I never saw this version with Peter Falk on TV again. I watched the 2006 version of the same story but I did not like it at all. Peter Falk and Jill Clayburn were perfect for the roles. I loved the ending when Griffin goes to the cemetary after Phoenix died and sees 'I beat you to it..' that she had had engraved on her tombstone. I have been unsuccessful to find the DVD for this particular version - so far. I am still looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Falk's Greatest Movie Role, October 25, 2011

Although a bit dated (1976), this VHS movie starring the incredible Peter Falk (Griffin) and Jill Clayburgh (Phoenix) is a very moving and sensitive story of two people who fall in love only to later discover that each one is a terminal cancer patient. The roller coaster ride of emotions is heartbreaking, but at times quite humorous. Although best known and loved for his Lt. Columbo TV character, this is Falk's best movie screen role. A real weeper. Pass the tissues, please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally packed; wonderful & tragic love story, October 29, 2008

I loved this movie and am waiting for its release in DVD format ... hopefully someday. I don't understand these morons here who are giving away some of the most poignant scenes - they must be nuts. Sorry, but to spoil such scenes and reveal some of this is so selfish. The movie really packs a wallop; it's very real, painful, tragic and loving.
