I don't really trust that this case would protect my iPad I a drop on a hard floor.

O.K. I fall somewhere between those writing that this is the greatest case in the world, and this is a poor case. I think its a good case, but it could be much better.

First, I have to laugh a bit when it says that this case is "military grade." I guess that is a bit of an insult to our military. The fact of the matter is that this case has a hard plastic back, a rubber surround, and a plastic front face. Yes, from the videos I've seen the iPad Air IS pretty fragile. Apple definitely put weight above all else, and frankly since they charge so much for their plan that covers damage, its really no skin of their back if the iPad smashes, you buy another one of pay for the repair deductible, Apple wins in both cases.

So you install the iPad Air in this plastic frame, then wrap around this rubber covering that protects it, and place on this clear front to protect that part. I see a few problems with this. First, there is no rubber between the hard case back and the iPad, so if you drop it, there is nothing to soften the impact except the give of the hard plastic. I think the iPad would be protected much more had there been some rubber between the hard case and iPad.

Second, the back hard back and the from covering snap together, but on mine at least, it always felt like it wasn't fully snapped together. Like if you squeezed it, it would snap together, but then it would separate a small bit. In the end I used some rubber cement to hold it together. The worry was if it did fall, the front would come off, and it wouldn't be fully protected.

As for operation, the front plastic really doesn't hurt touch sensitivity much, but the plastic does seem to reduce the sharpness of the retina display a bit. I can live with that, I guess.

If you dig around the reviews you'll find other instances of folks receiving apparent counterfeits of this item. I ignored the warning signs (unknown supplier, ridiculously cheap) and received a case that wouldn't snap together. I ordered another direct from Griffin (found a 16 buck coupon online and free shipping) and indeed there are differences to the quality of materials, moulded graphics and fit - the real Griffin is as tight as a drum and fit for purpose - in my case hunting. Hopefully Amazon are chasing down these shady suppliers. My first ever experience of something like this shopping with them.

THIS is a fake griffen product. it is very poorly made. I have used for 2 days and the part where the headphones plug in is about to rip off.

i give this cheap knock off 1 stare because i can not give 0, the case i received was fake and has all dedicates of a knock off, from its cheap rubber that will be torn easily to the non fitting from face plate which will never keep its hold because its made horribly, i looked up all the indications of a Counterfeit Griffin Survivor case and this genuine piece of crap shows all the signs.. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUT STRAIGHT FROM GRIFFIN!

I picked up my iPad Air 2 weeks ago and no Otterboxes were offered at the Apple store so I went with the Griffin Survivor and it is not a bad case if you aren't traveling with your iPad. My biggest complaint is the home button is raised above the bezel and it is constantly being pushed while in my briefcase and Siri starts yakking away. First time was cute but now it's just plain annoying. I don't care for the stand as it requires a solid surface to use and has only one position. The other thing I worry about is my screen getting cracked because there is no hard cover other than the plastic screen protector which is fine for scratches. The weight isn't bad compared to the Otterbox Defender which feels like a brick.

I use my iPad in the field on construction job sites and don't feel this is the best case for that purpose. It's great around the house but I can't really use it for work.

I just ordered the Otterbox Defender because I had it on my other iPad and it survived falls from 4 feet onto concrete with no damage. I need ultimate protection and this doesn't hack it. I regret blowing $75.00 on this case and now having to replace it with the Otterbox.

I struggle with saying this case/cover is okay and I don't like it. I have 3 of them for my 3 iPad Airs because I usually use OtterBox Defender cases but these were not released when the iPad Air was so I settled on a Survivor. What I like about the cases are the rubber on the edges making it very easy to hold onto. Also it goes together very easily. What I don't like is how easy it goes together. I can pop the cover off with just my fingers. I worry if I were to drop my iPad in this case just how easy the cover would pop open. I'm comparing to the OtterBox Defender series of cases with these issues. I don't like the button cover. It's raised so it's very easy to hit the button on accident and I find myself constantly putting my iPad to sleep in the middle of gaming. I don't like the camera cover either. I like how it protects the camera lens but it's a pain in the tush when trying to take a photo because you have to hold your iPad steady with one hand and hold the flap open too with the other so you can use the camera on the back. For someone who shakes this is a major problem. I also don't like the "stand" for this cover, if that's what they really want to call it. It's very cheap and cheesy and has sharp edges. Unless you are standing the iPad on a table the stand is useless. I also don't like that it doesn't have a removeable cover like the OtterBox which also works as a stand to position the iPad. Instead the touch screen cover is the last piece to be snapped on when putting the case on the iPad and the part that is way too easy to pop off. I don't really trust that this case would protect my iPad I a drop on a hard floor. The screen protector itself isn't bad, however I have had issues with several different stylus'.Read more ›
