4.0 out of 5 stars great while they last
For years i avoided "in the ear" style headphones because they simply would not stay in my ears. I've been using Sony Street Style, which have large pads and go behind the ears. They are good, but can be uncomfortable if you wear glasses.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ouch.
It has no lows but A LOT of HIGH which is IRRITATING! It sounds like someone scratching a chalkboard. Don't buy this item! Find one that's more sensitive for your ears!

4.0 out of 5 stars great while they last, June 30, 2008

For years i avoided "in the ear" style headphones because they simply would not stay in my ears. I've been using Sony Street Style, which have large pads and go behind the ears. They are good, but can be uncomfortable if you wear glasses.

My Sony headphones did not fit my new iPhone jack, so I decided to try Griffin. These have three different sizes (yes, some people have small ear-holes!), and I found that the smallest size fit me well. They go in your ear much better than the standard flat Apple earbuds, and they stay in place, even when jogging.

Another benefit is that they cancel outside noise very well. Very useful when you are on a noisy train... but be careful - you might miss something if you are walking around a city!

Sound quality is good - not as good as my Sony Street style, but its acceptable.

This is my second pair. My first pair served me well for months, but eventually they died (sound cutting in and out). I think all headphones eventually die this way - the chord becomes frayed at the end and when you move it around the sound goes with it...

Overall - comfortable, decent sound, worth the price.

These headsets are great. You don't hear anything outside from the headsets and they are very comfortable. They are deffintly worth buying.

I use these at work to help me focus because I work in an open environment and get easily distracted. I also wear them at the gym for hours and couldn't be happier because of their comfortableness. My only recommendation is to make sure you are diligent about keeping the buds in their case when you're done using them. Otherwise, the rubber around the wire could tear, which is what happened to my last pair.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, flimsy cord, July 18, 2008

These worked great for me for about a month. I was amazed at how much sound was blocked out--I was able to listen to my Sansa at about half the volume as with my old headphones. The reason for the two stars is that the wires lost connection right where the Tune Buds plug into the MP3 player after just a month of use. The cords really do seem terribly thin, and there is no stress reliever at the point where the wires lost connection. It's a pity, because this is otherwise a great product.

By-the-way, Amazon was great about the problem. I just missed the return period, and I sent them an e-mail explaining the problem. They graciously agreed to take them back and give me a refund (although I'm still waiting for the refund, but I just sent them earlier this week.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent earbuds - worth $50+, September 27, 2011

This review is from: Griffin 9401-TUNBDSB TuneBuds (Black) (Electronics)
I am not an audiophile. I do recognize the difference between excellent, average and awful sound. The Griffin TuneBuds are simply excellent. Vocals are crisp and highs are so clear you'll hear music detail on your tracks that was not present before. The bass response ices the cake on these buds. It's like having a built-in sub-woofer compared to other ear buds.

Why are there poor reviews for this item? Perhaps it's because people are not wearing the TuneBuds properly. You have to position them deep and firmly in your ear to get the great sound, otherwise the sound is awful. Three different pairs of rubber rings are supplied so you can get the best fit. When firmly seated in your ears the TuneBuds seal out nearly all outside noise, even on a busy crowded street. I wear them at home in the evening when I'm too lazy to get out my over the ear >$125 Panasonic noise cancelling headphones.

I paid $27.00 in 2007 for my first pair of Griffin ear buds that were the predecessor to the TuneBuds. I thought they were worth $50 or more then, I still do. I was crushed when I lost them at a Starbucks recently and shocked that it only cost $8.99 to replace them at Amazon. I too, was fooled by the ratings and first tried the 5 star rated Skullcandy Earbuds. They were worse than awful. People must buy them because they look great.

Added value is the very nice, nylon cloth zippered case that comes with the TuneBuds. It's worth 8.99 by itself.

Love these! They fit my ears when almost no other ones do and they are cheap. They also come with a little case that even fits my mp3 player too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Excellent audio---MUST USE PROPERLY!, November 4, 2010
This review is from: Griffin 9401-TUNBDSB TuneBuds (Black) (Electronics)
Been using these religiously for about a year, in the office & at the gym. I am REALLY PICKY about audio quality, so when I bought these desperate at the airport, I was not expecting much for ~$20. I want nice crystal highs and deep lows, without too much midrange ruining it. Listen to lots of dance/trance, pop rock, jazz, alternatative 80's, 90's.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SOUND, and cannot believe what these inexpensive earbuds do. I have become a HUGE Griffin fan as a result of these. I read all the other bad reviews and noticed a trend ---they are not using them properly...*** The key to their amazing sound is position in the ear ***

** You have to try all the cusions to get that perfect seal, deep in the ear ***

Outside noise is blocked, deep bass is heavy (sometimes muddy like I prefer) but can be tight and precise if the music dictates. The highs are awesome, not tinny or irritating. The best recording quality yields the best sound obviously! Midrange is awesome too. My Mp3 has an equalizer so I have everything set to max out the performance of the highs and lows, and these buds have an amazing sounds. Also, they never fall out at the gym which really suprised me.

Have multiple pairs now!

2.0 out of 5 stars There's bass and not much else, January 16, 2010
This review is from: Griffin 9401-TUNBDSB TuneBuds (Black) (Electronics)
I've tried a lot of different earbuds before -- cheap ones they give away on airplanes or conferences, super high end ones, and ones in between. I must say that I can probably tolerate almost any pair thrown at me (although, of course, I do prefer some over the others). This is the first pair of earbuds I actually actively dislike -- there is weird artificial bass that is overemphasized to the point where it is distracting, almost like a pressure in your ear whenever anything on the lower end of the sound spectrum rolls around. Everything else sounds OK (I would say slightly muddled) but the bass just is horrible.....
