5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome sound quality! BlueTrip Rocks!, January 1, 2007
By HowardH (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
OVERVIEW:
First of all, it has awesome sound quality, it blows away any FM transmitter that I've heard of. It sounds better than any FM receiver also.
The hardware is stylish and the base is removable.
It comes with gold plated audio cables to connect to your stereo system.
It pretty much just works, out of the box.
You just turn on the receiver, and plug the transmitter into your iPod, when a connection is established, you iPod will start playing!

MY USE OF THE PRODUCT:
I keep my iPod on my body, that way I can't leave it anywhere.
I really got tired of the wire that connects my iPod to the car stereo.
I selected this model because it runs on 12 volts for my car.
I purchased a separate 12 volt adaptor from Radio Shack

MY ONLY RANT:
The only problem is that the transmitter unit must be removed, in order to use your iPod normally, when it is out of range of the receiver. This is a hassle for me because I just want to pop in my earbuds in, and walk away from the car. However the stupid code in the thing does not allow the iPod to continue to play. Please keep in mind that most people would not encounter this problem, that's why the rating is still 5 stars.

COMPATIBILITY NOTES:
Also the Dock Connector unit only works with click-wheel based iPods (personally tested with iPod Mini, 5.5G & 3G iPods.) It failed on the 3G unit, if you have a 3G iPod, you must get the model that plugs into the top!

There are cheaper solutions, but for my car's safety, I will never dock an iPod in a car because of the chance that I may leave it there, and walk away.

3.0 out of 5 stars The closest thing to perfection, but still falls short., October 28, 2007
By AS (FL United States) - See all my reviews

A few comments, there are two (2) versions, one that connects to the top, and one that connects to the bottom (dock).

The bottom connection does work with 3gen units, I have one and tried, works just the same as the top connector however the top connect seems more convienent because you can charge via the bottom connector plus you cn control the variable volume from the iPod 9headphone jack vs the line out via the Dock connector).

Sound quality, well the reviewer above is correct its better than FM but not by much, I can on occasion depending upon the song (all are orginal import in AAC format) hear a little distortion, but you really have to listen closely inorder to critique this. Just a note if your picky you may not be happy about this.

The convience, this is how it should be all along, it is ashame that with advance technology, even 3rd party accesories can not get this right. As far as design this one is as close to perfect as they come.

BUT...

Having tried two (2) units I get the same behavior/problem. Turning the iPod unit OFF, the blue tooth reciever does not return to standby mode (blinking blue light, which another reviewer was correct, it can be very annoying at night if trying to watch a movie, etc. one needs to consider placement or turn the switch off on the back), anyways, inorder to resych the blue tooth the next time you have to power cycle the blue tooth reciever to get it back into standby/searching mode. Sometimes it works and returns to standby/search mode as it should by itself when the iPod is turned off. At the very least there should be integrated simple programing rules to allow to resume the last connection or override and allow a new connection, with MAC addressing this should be very easily done. Otherwise my BlueTrip is trying to conenct to the reciever but the reciever is stuck looking for the old connection. Why it does not recognise a new connection, it would be simple to program :-(

Additionally, very stangely if the iPod is sitting in its dock with the BlueTrip connector via the top, the iPod which is OFF, it will automaticlly turn on by itself and begin transmiting.

As far range, 30 feet is exactly that. Suffices for my needs. It would be nice if it could reach farther.

In the end dispite the problems it does accomplish alot, its just sad to see that the product was not fully thought out in design. Its still a keeper, is it worth $100 retail, meh thats a reach, if it did not have issues , then YES. Otherwise look for bargins can be had less than $50.
