4.0 out of 5 stars Not so Grim Northern Social, June 8, 2004
This review is from: Grim Northern Social (Audio CD)
I first saw this Scottish band on a late night slot on my local TV station. Their gripping performance made me go and buy their album straight away. I wasnt disappointed. The album is full of powerful rock songs with a distinct emotional and gutsy edge. The band's sound is very unique due to the wonderful vocals and lyrics. In particular the song "Gasoline Queen" has a slight bon jovi tinge to it and it compliments a very strong debut album. full of infectious choruses and melodies you cant help but sing along. Right from the opening number "Urban Pressure", the energy is contagious up until the end of the song where there is a mellow run down. This energy flows throughout the album's songs. This band really are a hidden gem and no-one knows about them......yet! I hope the word spreads

.......this is a record that one is hard pressed to define. The sounds sound like this or that (here and there), the vocals remind you of this guy or that guy (here and there), BUT it is the collective work of this project that will transcend all descriptions.

I don't want to ruin the joy that you will receive upon your first listen, so nevermind the bullocks (ooops, I almost let that slip out) of comparing them to other artists, it won't suffice. Blended together, all that is on this record is nothing short of Wonderful.

Do yourself a favor! Buy this cd.
Here's to hoping for a trip to California (Hollywood area) soon.

ps...(to the reader) I know this is not what you are looking for in a review, but I truely don't want to ruin the pleasure you will get in listening. Ignore most of the comparisons (Coldplay, Travis, etc....).....Nothing could be further from accurate.
