These broadheads are excellent. They open well and create a large exit would for a quick kill. My son shot a deer early this past season and the arrow went through the deer and stuck in a fallen tree. He recovered the arrow and actually used the broadhead for a second kill later in the season. You can watch a steel drum test on youtube by typing in "Broadhead Test". Grim reapers hold up very well.

Well, I just got into archery and I wanted a mechanical broad head to kind of tinker with. I like the grim reaper. I was sure that the blades would open when released from a compound bow, as they are not secured via rubber band like the competitors. I was surprised when each shot was spot on with out any blades opening mid-flight. Excellent broad head.

Started hunting with a crossbow three years ago. I was new to archery and really didn't know which broadheads to use with my 150# draw crossbow. My brother-in-law suggested Grim Reaper broadheads. I bought them and was impressed with the narrow aerodynamic profile and the mechanical system that makes rubberbands or o-rings unnecessary. I have shot three deer with Grim Reapers.

The first deer was hit in the chest and took off running. I inspected the spot where the deer had been standing and found hair and blood spattered on the tree that the deer was standing in front of when I shot. I found my bolt on the ground and it was obvious the deer had been hit. I tracked the deer and found it about thirty yards away, dead. Straight flight, complete pass-through, huge exit wound, clear blood trail and quick kill - what more could a hunter ask for in a broadhead?

Second deer I shot was basically the same story, except the bolt had enough energy left after pass-through to bury itself in the ground. Never did find the bolt.

Shot my third deer yesterday with Grim Reapers. It was a big whitetail doe (I hunt for meat, antlers are just a bonus). She was closer than I estimated and I hit her low in the chest. The bolt passed through one front leg, the lower part of her chest (catching the bottom of the lungs), and passed through the other foreleg, breaking the bone. This deer traveled about 80 yards into a cedar swamp before crumpling. Again, accurate flight (the shot placement was my fault), plenty of penetration, great blood trail and minimal suffering by the animal.

I recommend Grim Reaper mechanicals without reservation and will buy them again.

Does some serious damage!
Pass through's are the norm with this head.

Does a great job.

I ordered more of this product because I like the product. Last hunting season, I shot a buck in the rear hind leg (very bad shot , and went through one leg only). I followed the blood trail for a 3/4th mile and found the deer dead in a creek. I don't think I would have found the deer except for the wide 1-3/4th in broadhead. Also no rubberbands on expandables is awesome.

I bought these for deer hunting but after seeing them will reserve them only for turkeys. They are huge. I am worried that penetration will be inadequate for deer. Maybe if you shoot over 60 ft-lbs of energy they would be fine for deer. Grim Reaper does make smaller versions which IMO would be better for deer.
