Back 'in the olden days' when I was a child we had Grimm's Fairy Tales as read by Danny Kaye on LP, which I listened to hundreds of times. I still have the LP, but have no way to play it, so I was thrilled to discover that the album had been published on CD. Now my children can enjoy it as well.

Mr. Kaye gives brilliant performances of the fairy tales on this album. I would warn anyone new to the real Grimm's fairy tales (as opposed to the Disneyfied versions) that they are somewhat darker and more violent than what is commonly thought of when the word fairy tale is mentioned.

Danny Kaye is probably unknown to many who are under 45 or so. He was an old school entertainer---could sing, dance, act, tell jokes, etc.---which is a lost art. Chris Walken is probably one of the few still performing that can do it all--for him, from tap to "more cowbell".

Anyhoo, when I was a lad, I listened to this album. A lot. And once the wonders of the Inter-Web-Nets began making searching for such a record (LP, not CD) viable, I did so, and I found it, and bought it. This is a very adept telling of some classic stories. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates what I just wrote.

We listened to this every night as we fell asleep and memorized each story. The way Danny Kaye performs these is just priceless. The accents and the way he tells the stories is so funny. I still love these stories!

Danny Kaye telling Grimms & Hans Christian Andersens Fairy Tales in his inimitable style. He was outstanding on this CD when it was new in the 1970's and we initially played this for our children. They enjoyed listening to this over and over. After they grew up and had their own children, we searched for the original recording and never found one. Recently we found a CD on Amazon. Our adult children were just as delighted at almost 40 years old as they were when they were under 10. Danny Kaye is a superb story teller, presenting the story in a way that children can imagine they are actually seeing it. We so enjoyed listening to this again, especially "Clever Gretel". Todays children will love it - let them use their imagination to conjure up images of these stories. You won't regret purchasing this CD. (And, we enjoyed it as much as they did.)

I had the LP as a child and I listened to it over and over. It is my favorite story time record. Danny Kaye is a master story teller.

I bought this for my friend's little girl, but I really had some second thoughts about keeping it for myself! I loved these stories as a child and Danny Kaye is such a wonderful storyteller - I was so pleased to see that it has been made into a CD! Heck, I may have to order one for myself now!

Bought this for my autistic child who loves listening to stories at bedtime. I liked the idea of Danny Kaye and it has stories we don't already have.

I remembered the Hans Christian Andersen LP from my childhood and had been looking for this recording for many years. Danny Kaye is delightful. He holds nothing back from his voice acting, and I love these stories for the hopeful energy he brings into the dark of a story like The Little Match Girl. Although I wasn't as familiar with the Grimm fairy tales, I enjoyed the whole CD. A fantastic collection!

I grew up listening to these records, even got to see Danny Kaye on Broadway - a big fan. I'd looked for the CDs years ago to share with my kids, but I guess they're only recently available. Kaye's melodic (even when spoken)voice and expressive story-telling skills bring the stories to life. And the tales themselves - always of a time "long-ago in a faraway land" - never lose their appeal.

I had fond memories of these recordings from my childhood & was thrilled to find them on Amazon. The recording quality is great & the stories are just as entertaining to me now as they were to me then. My husband thinks they are hilarious. Danny Kaye's voices fascinate our 14 mos. old daughter, so we keep this in our car & pop it in when she gets fussy. It's nice to have something playing that adults & kids can both enjoy.
