Book Description

Grimms’ Fairy Stories, as it is commonly known today, is originally the Children’s and Household tales which is a collection of German origin fairy tales first published in 1812 by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the Brothers Grimm. The first volumes were much criticized because they were not regarded as suitable for children, both for the scholarly information included and the subject matter. Many changes through the editions – such as turning the wicked mother of the first edition in Snow White and Hansel and Gretel to a stepmother, were probably made with an eye to such suitability. They removed sexual references, such as Rapunzel’s innocently asking why her dress was getting tight around her belly, and thus naively revealing her pregnancy and the prince's visits to her step mother, but, in many respects, violence, particularly when punishing villains, was increased.

The book includes illustrations, active table of contents, and a free audiobook link for download (which can be downloaded separately using a PC/Mac) at the end of the book.

Haven't read these for years. Was very good. Realized that some of the stories are too "grim" for younger grandkids.

"Grimms Fairy Stories" is as interesting as the New Show "Grimm". The stories are amazing and the art is good too. The Free Audio book was an appreciated bonus. I didn't realize how many stories they had written.

1.0 out of 5 stars free link for audio book September 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this ebook for my son to use on my kindle. The reason for purchasing this particular one was for the free audio book. Took me a while to figure out where the link was. It was at the end of the book. When I clicked the link it is not compatible with my kindle. So I went on my laptop and typed in the long link. Discovered this webpage would not even open on my laptop. My son is learning to read and just using the text to speach option on my kindle is a little crude for my 5 year old. I was really looking forward to him having an audio book. I will not waiste any more time or money on this company. Just buy the free ebook for kindle and use your text to speech.

Grimm's Fairy Stories

This was a very disappointing product. It is a very flimsy little paperback with no illustrations of any kind. It would only be purchased as a child's book and is not suitable at all.
