About the Author

The Brothers Grimm, Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859), were German academics best known for publishing collections of folk tales and fairy tales, which became popular. Jacob also did academic work in linguistics, related to how the sounds in words shift over time (Grimm's law), and together they wrote a German dictionary. They are among the best-known story tellers of folk tales from Europe, and their work popularized such tales as "Rumpelstiltskin"(German: Rumpelstilzchen), "Snow White", "Sleeping Beauty", "Rapunzel", "Cinderella"(German: Aschenputtel), "Hansel and Gretel(German: Hänsel und Gretel)", and "The Frog Prince"(German: Der Froschkonig). --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

My first Calla Edition was Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe. It is a work of extraordinary beauty and I've been collecting the various titles issued by Calla Editions since. The quality of each Calla Edition is superior in terms of binding, paper quality, the illustrations, and content. These Calla Editions are a must-have in every collector's library and will bring great pleasure to bibliophiles.
This 2010 Calla Edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales contains a selection of stories from The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, translated by Mrs. Edgar Lucas, and which was originally published by Doubleday, Page, and Co., New York, in 1909. There are 40 full-color plates by Arthur Rackham as well as 28 black-and-white illustrations. Each illustration is listed at the beginning of the book with page references.

This is my first Calla Editions purchase, and I am definitely inspired to buy more after receiving Grimm's Fairy Tales. The paper quality is excellent, the translation is good, and the full color illustrations are wonderful. I know I will treasure this volume and I cannot wait to share it with my young daughter.

Fairy tales were told to children to help prepare them for the cold world of reality; no sugar coating and at times, no happy endings because life isn't always a Disney moment. Grimms' Fairy Tales are fabulous, and exactly as I remembered them from my childhood. The lack of illustrations is not a problem since the tales are so beautifully told and have great descriptive passages. If you are a fantasy or sci-fi fan or a lover of horror fiction, and haven't read Grimm's, you need to get this book and go to the source of so many modern tales. 5 stars.

I was shopping for a volume of fairy tales for my 8 year old daughter. First I was drawn towards a Barnes and Noble series, only to discover that it is printed and bound in China! I take some offense to this because I'm an unemployed American printer! That's when I came back to Amazon, where I do much of my online purchasing, and found this Calla Edition! Excellence in every aspect! Printed in the US of A by Courier Corporation... I know them well, and they are the best at what they do! Oh, and the price... I think it is an exceptional value. Many, many illustrations... you won't be disappointed!

This is the original version of the Grimm's Fairy Tales and they aren't the ones you grew up with. These tell a completely different version than what you grew up with. These are twisted and don't always have a happy ending. Let the kids keep their Disney images of happily ever after for a while.

Larger font allow for smaller humans to read, but I personally enjoy this book so far. The drawings that accompany the stories are cute, and seem as original as the tales. Plenty of stories and fairy tales I have never heard of are in here as well. I love the lessons to be learned from each. Brings back those wonderful days of sneaking in children books to read before bed...as a child of course.

Great illustrations, nice to have especially if you are watching the TV series Grimm filmed in Portland, Oregon. Make sure to watch the show while reading the story.
