No-nonsense reference,

This review is from: Grimoire for the Green Witch: A Complete Book of Shadows (Paperback)
This is an excellent compendium of basic (non-Gardnerian, non-trad) wiccan/ witch ritual, theology and symbology. I believe it will be especially helpful for solitary (that is, not aligned with a coven or other group) pagans who are further along their paths than absolute beginners - people who need access to well-organized, non-fluffy material to bolster their personal practice. It would probably be a bit overwhelming for beginners, but that's not a bad thing as there are already too many beginning pagan books and not enough intermediate and advanced. One of the most attractive qualities about Moura's writing is that she makes no extravagent claims of ancient lineage and she doesn't attempt to distort history to fit her version of the Craft; many Llewellyn books in the past have been rendered nearly useless by this tendency. The material is offered as neutrally as can be, and therefore it is easily adaptable for an individual's tastes and beliefs. Is it just me, or is the overall quality of pagan books going up recently? Kudos to Llewellyn for finally putting out a quality witchcraft reference!

This book has everything you can possibly need, whether you are a beginner or advanced practitioner, it is a true working BOS. It includes all of the standard holiday and ritual information and it is presented in a precise, non-fluff way. I particularly like the fact there are so many tables, planetary guides, sigils, runes etc. The type of info you can't seem to find anywhere else is all compiled neatly here with room to add on at the end of every chapter. She also added several tea recipes, I found to be rather charming. What this book isn't is a book of spells, if you are looking for one of those, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Let me start by saying that I like Ann Moura's books, for the most part. To each his/her own, of course. If you don't like her other writings, you may not like this one either. But if you DO like her other writings, then you will LOVE this book!It is extremely thorough, well written as a ritual and spell book, and NOT a teaching book at all. If you are looking for a teaching book, get "Green Witchcraft III." This is the compilation of all the rituals and magical work from her earlier books, all written out and put into one manual. They are easy to find, easy to follow, flow together very well, and she includes a ton of extra information so it is right at your fingertips. No more hunting around and thinking "Where did I read that??" Again, to each his own, but I think this is a wonderful grimoire.

This book is way better than Silver Ravenwolf's Grimoire.(Don't like her anyway)It's more down to earth.Ann Moura gives you the option to do spell at certain times of the day ie. morning, evening, noon, midnight if you feel frustrated with planetary hours. She also includes a sigil-o-matic wheel of letters you can connect to make your own sigils. There's tons of recipes for teas to help with colds, fevers, stomach sickness,
and more. There are outlines with creative ideas and recipes for sabbats. There are bath recipes,a glossary of tough terms, planetary symbols, incense & herb correspondences, the Pagan versions of Yule carols, the properties of different feathers and totems, too much to list.I reccommend this book to ALL witches.

A Personal Look at A Witches Grimoire,
By Boudica (Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grimoire for the Green Witch: A Complete Book of Shadows (Paperback)
From the introduction of the book: "This is a facsimile, a duplication, of my own Book of Shadows and Grimoire - presented as I myself use it with a Book of Rituals and a Book of Spells."
For those who follow the Green Witch Path, they will find this book interesting, useful and curious as well. We are taken into Ann Moura's personal Book of Shadows and we learn what she uses in her everyday magical life. In the old traditions, the student of the path hand writes their own copy of the Book of Shadows as handed down by their teacher. Ann Moura, having her own large following, realizes this is an important part of learning and offers her own Book of Shadows printed for the use of her students. Ms. Moura has presented teaching material before in her own path of Green Witchcraft, and this book augments the learning. It includes her "Creed of the Green Witch" and "The Sacred Tradition of Green Witchcraft" as well as the standard reference material focusing on God and Goddess, practices, Rules of Conduct, Sabbats, proper techniques for performance of magic, tools, writings, rituals, spells and spell workings and all the essentials that comprise a standard Book of Shadows. As usual, the material is easy to follow, well written and is true to the Ann Moura style of teaching and writing. I have to say this is well thought out and laid out. It covers all the aspects of a true Grimoire and keeps in line of Ms. Moura's personal teachings. For the curios, this is a good example of what a Book of Shadow can look like when planned and worked with dedication. For the student of the Green WitchCraft path, this book is an essential addition to your Green library. boudica

A Complete Reference Guide For the Green Witch,

Years ago, Green Witchcraft changed my magical path. Ann Moura's series of books were the first books about the Craft that really taught what I wanted to learn. Not just Wicca, but how to see the Divine in nature and use the energy around us.Grimiore of the Green Witch is a handy, easy to use reference with spells, rituals and many correspondence tables. It's the perfect companion to her other books. Though they will teach the basic ideas behind the path of the Green Witch, this grimoire puts the lessons to use. This is not a rehash of the series. It assumes the reader is familliar with the rest of her books, but this volume is only the Book of Shadows. Some of the spells and rituals can be found in Green Witchcraft I, II, and III. There are some new tidbits as well. Even if, like me, you have all of her other books, it is still a helpful addition to one's magical library. It has saved me a lot of time looking up information from the books in the Green Witchcraft series. It's great having everything in one volume. If you are only interested in a spell book, this would still be a good buy. There are also recipies for teas and oils. Tables include herbs, stones, magical hours, as well as Ogham and Elder Futhark runes.

This review is from: Grimoire for the Green Witch: A Complete Book of Shadows (Paperback)
I was drawn to this book simply for its spells having a Book of Shadows already on my shelf. But when I started to read I slowly began to realize how much more this book really is. Don't let the size fool you. It may seem small but this is one of the most extensive books I have ever read on the subject. Not only does it explain the basics that pretty much every Book of Shadows does (or should) go into, but it also explains intricate details for further knowledge that most have to gain from personal experience.
It starts with deity basics, explaining what green witchcraft is and its ethics (Ann Moura being a green witch along with much of her family for many generations) along with who (in a very general way) the Goddess and God are. She mostly leaves this open for slight interpretation since many different types of point of view of the subject exist along with names as she slightly goes into by explaining what she has been brought up to believe in her family. She also expresses the main (not necessarily most popular) types of green witchcraft. Then she goes into the Wheel of the Year, quite extensively. A large amount is devoted to what the book claims to be, the BOS, explaining rituals, chants, and blessings done during the Sabbats (one of the longest and most extensive I've seen) and during spells, tools and how to make them, important rituals such as Drawing Down the Moon and consecrations, a large chapter for just meditation, a chapter of just things needed to make a spell and ritual work and what goes into making them (there are nineteen sections of this chapter mind you). Only now FINALLY do we get to the spells chapter, which was mostly spells for basic living which I personally was happy with, having grown tired of the usual making your neighbor fall in love with you spells. Afterwards is a section on crafts which are used often in many books and spells. Next comes the chapter on most things herbs are used for like teas and baths. Then a chapter on all things divination associated such as how to read tea leafs and extended explanations of each and every tarot card. And finally what I thought to be most surprising was she actually put in a section on palm reading. All and all, this book is wonderful and has literally everything you will ever need. I highly recommend it for all witches, green or gray, beginners or advanced. It's a marvelous read.

What a great book!! I have been waiting for a straight-forward and to the point reference for a while and this is one of the best. It is jam-packed with general information. It is a great reference and it is a wonderful addtition to your magickal library. This is the type of book you can pick up and go straight to what you are looking for with no fluff in between. I find Ann Moura's Grimoire extremely helpful, in fact sometimes I use it along side of my own Book of Shadows. This read includes a broad area in pagan holidays, divination, rituals, tools, and such. It is easy to understand if you are familiar in this subject. This book is more of a reference and guide. Her other books would explain more if you are looking for backround or history. This book is money well spent and not one I will part with anytime soon.

wealth of information,
This review is from: Grimoire for the Green Witch: A Complete Book of Shadows (Paperback)
Not a beginners book, but a more advanced grimoire for the solitary practitioner. Spells, rituals and practice covers a wide range of needs - circle casting, Esbat rituals, Sabbat Rituals, meditations, basic spells, to cleaning your crystals and divinations. She also goes into teas, oils and baths, the foundation for the aromatherapy crazy. Each divided into well organized, easy-to-follow sections.
As with all the Green Witchcraft series, there is a wealth of information just not for the crafter, but endless material to help writers of the paranormal and fantasy categories. Highly recommended.

This is not only a visually beautiful book, but it's an incredibly dense book, chock full of correspondences, spells, rituals, and information. I'm not usually that enthusiastic about grimoire's written by others since many of them seem to be just a way to get their ego stroked. Some are so poorly written, you wonder why a publisher accepted them. One I've read had such poor spelling and grammar that I don't think it was even edited--a big mistake. While I understand that literacy amongst witches has only been common in this century, it still has a strong effect on how I perceive the author when there are such egregious errors.
I've been a solitary practitioner for years, but Ann Moura's book really increased my knowledge. It is probably a bit much for a beginner since it is not a basic book by any means. I've been told that some of her other books are basic witchcraft lessons. This book just impressed me by the total amount of information gathered in one place. Not to mention that the rituals, spells, etc. are eminently usable and very well written. It was an interesting read just because things like the |
