4.0 out of 5 stars The kids loved it for a little while
If it isn't clear from the description, this card game is based on the Grinch, stealing of the Whoville gifts, and singing. There's a "singing detector" and you need to sing loudly enough (and long enough) to trigger it. Okay, so there you have it.

For the simplicity (despite the electronic core of the game, it is simple) you actually have quite a fun game...

2.0 out of 5 stars When/If it works
The bottom line on this toy is that it worked inconsistently and erratically, causing undue frustration all around. I am of the mind that too many new games have jumped the shark in trying to be unique and interesting. This is one of them. I do like that the game is cooperative, in that all the players work together, rather than competitively, but unfortunately that...

For the simplicity (despite the electronic core of the game, it is simple) you actually have quite a fun game. The kids (nine years old) got a kick out of it. And we had a ball.

But there wasn't a lot of interest in returning to the game again a couple days later. The novelty wore off very quickly. We'll see if it returns...

Just to note, the kids love to sing anyway, know a fair number of songs, and especially like Christmas songs. The game is probably more interesting to younger children, so I'd especially recommend it for the 4-8 year olds.

I bought this game on sale at the end of last year for a quarter of the price for which it is listed today. It was sitting in my closet of future birthday/holiday presents when my five year old son stumbled upon it and liberated it. We played it for the first time on Thanksgiving and my children (ages 11, 8, 5, and 4 years) had a blast. At first the 11-year old wanted no part of it, I'm sure because he deemed Dr. Seuss too babyish, but he couldn't resist joining the fun once he saw the game in action. This is not a game I'd expect children to want to play every night, but mine have requested it most nights since they discovered it. Truth be told they play one or two rounds, which is plenty for everyone in the house as it does tend to get rather loud and scream-y rather than melodic. For what I paid it's a fun game that brings them all together.

The game is a bit hard for the kids to put together, and if roughly handled would not hold up to the constant assembly and dis-assembly it will require. At our house, an adult has been in charge of putting it together and storing the pieces at the end of play. Unlike other reviewers we have had no problems with the sleigh not going on its own. On one song, which I think was a quieter song, possibly Frere Jacques, it didn't go right away and the kids had to sing another verse. The directions are clear that you must sing for 20 seconds and loud, and my goodness do my kids get loud!

Overall fun toy that teaches teamwork and taking turns.

Doesn't work very well. The first one didn't work at all. The second one wasn't much better. It takes a long time to set it up. We had to sing so loud to make it move and other times the sleigh moved without us singing.

This is a cute game, and my kids love it, but we have never been able to get the sleigh to work without giving it a push. It's a cute concept, but needs some work. I wouldn't spend more than [...] on it!

When I bought this game for the family, I saw us around the kitchen table singing and laughing the evening away, til the kids bedtime anyway. Not to be.

After assembling everything, which was quite simple, and putting new batteries in the "voice thing", the game started. Soon my daughter picked a "sing a song" card. So, we, (that's 3 adult's and 3 children sing 2 verses of Wheels On The Bus with no action at all. Bottom line the "voice activated sled release mechanism" refused to work. We tried numerous times and all attempts failed.

I should have been wary when I saw the price. We are going to give it one more shot. If it works, I'll let you know.

My girls are 3 and 6... they love the Grinch, and they love to sing. I figured this was a win-win, but the mixed reviews had me a little worried. The game is as sturdy as I would expect a kid's cardboard game to be, and we had no problems making the sleigh go down the track; it worked for us consistently. We have had no problems with this game whatsoever, and we've played it everyday for the last week. If you're on the fence, buy it.... really, it's an awesome game that encourages teamwork.

I purchased this for my 5 year old grandson. I think the motivation was that my daughter and I couldn't resist it...lol. I could swear the ratings were higher when I bought it! With this game, when the time is right, everyone gathers around the Grinch's sled and sings until the sled can hear. Once the sled registers our singing, it is released and hurtles down the mountainside full of presents. When the presents spill out, depending on the position they land on, you are rewarded, or not. Most of them land in the wrong position. Oh, and the sled doesn't release, not to mention putting it together is challenging each and every time.

The grandson was understandably bored. The game is slow in coming to the point and victory takes too long! We were all kind of bored with the exception of all of us singing our hearts out in an attempt to get the blasted sleigh to drop. At that point we were all laughing as we timed the song to ensure it passed the 20 second range and then some. We actually started shouting as though it were a competition.

Admittedly, you can make your own game rules but this might involve cheating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to play - all ages can participate - cooperative play, December 1, 2009

We've owned this game for about a year and we've played it a few times (we'd play it more, but my poor ears can only take so much!!) The kids have an absolute ball with this game... they just sing their hearts out and the sled comes crashing down - lots of fun for them... but kids can sing LOUD! So, if you've got sensitive ears, get some ear plugs! :-)

We've never had a problem with this game - it was easy to put together and has operated flawlessly every time we've played. The pieces are sturdy cardboard, so it should hold up pretty well with use. If you have very young kids (6 and under) this is a great game... older kids could get bored with it as it's a very basic concept.

For my kids, we added the singing of "Welcome Christmas" from the Grinch movie once all the Who's have gotten their gifts and have formed a complete circle - we join hands and sing around the table... they love it.

This is a great game that doesn't pit one player against another, rather it's up to all the players to work together to win the Christmas presents from the Grinch. Works well to teach co-operation and looking to help others type skills. Any age can play and enjoy it!
