Book Description

8 and up3 and up
Here is a quirky and refreshing new take on the traditional movie storybook. It's told from the point of view of the two slightly batty Old Biddies who lovingly raise the Grinch from the night of his arrival in Who-ville to the day he runs off to live in his cave on Mt. Crumpit.

Organized as a photo album cum scrapbook, it tells the whole story of the Grinch's life, through still photos from the movie, extended captions, and running commentary.

The Biddies' somewhat skewed take on events gives this very funny story an additional level of charm and laugh-out-loud wackiness.

3.0 out of 5 stars The meaning of Christmas, November 20, 2000
By
Misha (Staten Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Movie Storybook (Hardcover)
Hey, remember in the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," about two pages before the Grinch's heart grows three sizes, when he realizes that Christmas (just maybe) doesn't come from a store? Oh well. Further proof that "Grinch" is nothing more than a fairy tale. This book, along with the other 4000 merchandising gimmicks we've been inundated with, can be easily dismissed by the public that doesn't come into contact with children on a daily basis; for those of us with kids, all it takes is one read-through of this book, and the youngsters will be cured of all things Grinch-like. The book is a pseudo photo album of the Grinch, as presented by the two "Old Biddies" who raised him until he ran off to live in his cave (a plot development which, I suppose, came from the movie). Sigh. Luckily for me, my kids were bored within the first ten pages; if nothing else, they no longer ask for Grinch merchandise, making this book not entirely worthless. Hence my three stars for an otherwise one-star accomplishment. And the buzzing you hear in the background is the sound of Dr. Seuss whirling dervishly in his grave.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cash in, December 22, 2000

This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Movie Storybook (Hardcover)
They needed to release a storybook of the movie for two reasons. One was that the movie plot bears such little resemblance to the original classic book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss that a different book was in order. The other was to make another buck and add to the millions they already spent and recouped on this entire Grinch project. I can only say that the movie is a corrupted failure that shouldn't presume to call itself the Grinch, and any book based directly on the movie is just as silly (and extremely bizarre; young kids might be frightened by these photographs.)

3.0 out of 5 stars The grinch who stole christmas, November 3, 2002
This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Movie Storybook (Hardcover)
The book is a ugly photo album of the Grinch, as presented by the two copy cats who raised him until he ran off to live in his cave (this part having seen it, I think, came from the movie). Luckily for me, my time was up and time for me to go to bed,and was bored with the first ten pages; if nothing else, they no longer ask for Grinch things, making this book not really worthless. so my three stars for an otherwise one-star accomplishment. And the buzzing you hear in the background is the sound of Dr. Seuss turning in his grave.
