Somehow, Steve Cannell keeps coming up with ways to get Shane Scully in deeper trouble than the last time. I read IN THE GRIND in two sittings. I would have done it in one, but I needed a night's sleep. In this nail-biter, Shane finds himself out of a job and out of a wife, and is forced to join the only police department that will take him, one that is corrupt from the street cop all the way to the mayor. The big question is, will Shane participate or will he blow the whistle? If he makes the wrong move, it won't matter. He'll be dead, and how will Cannell get him out of that?
