2.0 out of 5 stars grindhouse
These Movies are fun if you can enjoy them in that aspect. If your looking for anything other than childish nonsense your in for a disappointment.

I enjoyed both movies and the book. I can hardly wait for machete to come out. Both movies suffered from a lack of female skin
for a Grindhouse production and "R" rated movie. Both movies get really boring...

This is a great addition to your library.

I love this thing!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Behind the scenes packs a wallop, April 9, 2007
Shows how hard folks have to work to put their vision on film.

The book details the hugh support network Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino had in putting out their "Grindhouse" experience. There are tons of interviews and many full page pictures detailing how certain things were accomplished in the back to back movies, "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof." Tarantino has a great introduction to the grindhouse movie theaters (drive ins were mentioned as well) experiences in the 70s and early 80s.

I am quite satisfied with this coffee table sized, behind the scenes look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good 'special features' for fans more than film-makers, December 21, 2007
By
I really enjoyed the RR/QT Grindhouse release, so after getting the special editions of both films (the extra disc best buy ones in a tin case!), I just had to grab this book too. The book reads like the DVDs' special bonus features play. Interviews with cast and crew, nice on-set color photos, and some 'promo-art' pages (the kind you want to tear out and put on your wall) make up the book with the inclusion of Planet Terror and Machete screenplays. Death Proof, Thanksgiving, and Machete each have their own sections; also a RR/QT POV exploitation film experience discussion is included. Each film has a breakdown of Stunts, Special Effects, and the main players. The layout fits with the films' atmosphere, with psuedo-worn pages and nice graphics. The book is manufactured well, sturdy binding with a nice durable semi-matte hardcover.

So for the film's fans who want a little extra bonus features this is a good buy. There is some film-making insight, but this is more of a glimpse, and some of it is in video form on the DVDs. It supports the involved, and since its box-office revenue was less than desired, I loved these films and the idea behind their conception and would love more of them. So please, if you love these films, buy this book, buy the DVDs, and hey even push your local niche-theaters to rerun Grindhouse come halloween! -SOB

This movie is extremely entertaining and daring - I applaud the filmmakers for doing what they do. This book is a companion guide to the film. Beautiful photos, insight and artwork. Highly Recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible look at an incredible double feature, June 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a beautiful hardcover book, and just like the movies, it's dotted with fake ageing - corners look torn and creased, but the printing is still perfect and stunning

There is a LOT of really interesting info in here - from the Planet Terror screenplay, to interviews with a lot of special effects guys, detailing many of the stunts and crashes, and how they were performed and filmed. There are also tons of images taken from the film and the development.

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino talk a lot about their inspirations and thought processes behind the madcap action too.

If you're a fan of the movies, you will LOVE this book. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Rough Stuff!, April 25, 2011
By
Death Proof is INCREDIBLE!!! Planet Terror is great, but Death Proof appeals to me more. The structure of its script feels deliberately disjointed like old timey drive-in film (no real three act structure.) And I love any movie where women beat up men (what do you want from me, I feel oppressed in this lady body!) The exploitation of half-naked gals feels like a very deliberate commentary on how boobs and butts still sell a film without going overboard since most of the girls are tough, cool and well spoken. Good times!

My boyfriend is a Tarentino fan and he wasn't expecting this book to be as cool as it is. It's hard to find gifts that he likes and it made my day great when I was able to give him something he will truly enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on an AWESOME idea, January 29, 2010

This type of materiel is not for everyone. Die hard movie fans this is a must have for your collection.. "Grindhouse", an experiment by legendary directors Robert(Desperado,Sin City) Rodriguez, and Oscar winning writer Quintein(Pulp Fiction,Kill Bill Vol's I and II)Tarentino,to re-create to films that they grew up with in the 70's... The book is a historical document about the creation of said film, delving into everything from financing to creation to filming of the two parts(Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" and Tarentino's "DeathProof").. Film buffs alike will laugh and wonder how these movies got made by an industry who's only aim of late is a guaranteed"BLOCKBUSTER"(and rehash) with the word Transformer or spider man in it..Thankfully The Weinstein Company, saw the foresight to let this film be made.. if you liked the movie then this book ISNT for you.. This a FAN"S book, who loved the movie and who cant wait for "Machete" to be released(coming spring of 2010)

5.0 out of 5 stars Grindhouse, January 30, 2009
If you loved the movie - you'll love this book. I actually bought this book before I saw the movie in anticipation and was very happy. It is chock full of beautiful pictures including the ones of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as seen in the movie in the magazine Allure. Jungle Julia's billboards are in here(small) but still in nice enough quality to make up for the size. Pictures of all different kinds of posters are in here...they seriously did not skimp on the pictures in here. Definately worth buying.
