Book Description

"A crude rendition of Beauty and the beast." amazon reviewer

Series Description:
I was twenty-one, a sassy college student who took crap from no one. While holidaying in Mexico, I was accosted by The Devil of Mexico called Diablo and shot, because the bastard mistook me for a spy.

I survived, only to encounter him again months later. How’s that for luck?
Furious and sick of all that I’d been through because of him, I slapped him, told him to go fuck himself and braced myself for the bullet. He could shoot me – I no longer cared.
But, to my surprise, he became fascinated with me and blackmailed me into becoming his woman. He’d slay the entire village that sheltered me if I rejected his proposal.
He was Kong, hairy, tattooed from fingertips to face, with scary ass piercings, blood-shot snake eyes, a ruthless killer and above all, he was my murderer – how could anyone expect me to say yes?
To save the village I had to.
He took me by force, terrorized me into submission and made me his. To make matters worse, I had to put up with his ruthless, backstabbing family who hated me and wanted to kill me.
I despised the bastard and I told him that. Spark flew. Fists too.
When the FBI came on the scene and secretly recruited me to help put Diablo behind bars, I was thrilled. I wanted them to throw his ass behind bars, then torment him for the rest of his life like he was doing to me. I was willing to do whatever it took to get him there.
But, the more I rejected Diablo, the more he wanted me.
At times he wanted to kill me because of my insolence, but other times he just wanted me to love him.
I was his Gringa and in an attempt to get my love, he began to change for me. Drastic changes that made me laugh at him at first, then made me curious and even intrigued me.
As the days went by, I found myself drawn to him and I began seeing him differently. When I found out about his past, everything changed.
I now wanted to protect my murderer, my tormentor.
My days in Mexico were filled with violence, hate, lust and sorrow. It was also filled with laughter, love and passion and most importantly, it taught me that love conquers all.

Gringa - a modern–day, love story that will have you laughing, crying and wanting more!

WARNING: This book contains sexual violence, sex scenes, graphic language, drug references, violence and is suitable for mature readers

“IMO, It is one of the best romance books ive read in some time. I read it all in one sitting. I couldn't peel my eyes away even for a minute. The story had it all from action to romance.”

“Some scenes had me giggling out loud, but there was one scene that had me laughing out loud for a couple minutes.”

"If you want boy meet girl, fall in love and live happily ever after, you may want to pass on this book. If you want an awesome kick ass love story, that you can't put down, this is your book! A story like no other."

"A crude rendition of Beauty and the beast."

“This book is not for the faint of heart. It's horrible, dirty, raw, passionate, hilarious, sweet, sad, addictive, and so much more.”

‘One thing that I like from this author now that I have read all her books is that she takes time to develop her characters as well as develop the romance. There is no zero to 60 in 3 seconds here. Her characters are flawed and multi-dimensional.’

“The author has woven such intricate characters in this tale and I will be hard pressed to find another book which was so well rounded and beautifully written.

Please note, the entire Gringa series is also avail. Link below:

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

As you've probably read in my blog, I wrote GRINGA in 2009 after a nightmare.

Yeah, I know what you're going to say - sounds clichéd, the whole nightmare thing has been done etc. etc., but here's the thing:

I was so terrified after that nightmare, I couldn't go back to sleep.

The drug lord's shooting, the bullet that came my way, (I saw it as it hurtled toward me) was so real and so terrifying, that it took days for me to get over the horrible dream.
I stopped writing Captured, which I was busy on, and started writing Gringa.

It took me a year to write Gringa, and the feedback I got about Payton's character from my writing group, which consisted of authors - they didn't like her character.

Too feisty, too rude and she had no filter, they complained.

Mm. I was in a bind. Should I change her character, I wondered? Make her more likable?

But after much thought, I decided not to. Payton was so strong in my mind and so entertaining without a filter, that I had to chance it and let her be.

Now, just about every single reader tells me that they love Payton's character.
I am glad I did not listen to my writing group on that aspect.

As for Diago, I hated the a-hole in the beginning, but I, like Payton, grew to love him.
In the original ending, which I changed after umpteen requests, I cried buckets as I wrote.

I even cried during my many re-writes! (I am a cry baby, btw.)

I enjoyed the company of every single character in Gringa, including Tongue the fargin SOB, and Christa the fargin nympho!

They all brought something to the table as many readers pointed out.

My fans have asked, so I will be publishing the original ending of Gringa, but it will be FREE to anyone who has read Gringa, free to my fans.

I will be doing that in the next couple of months, so watch my Wordpress blog and ...make sure you have fargin Kleenex.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thumping good read! December 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Judging from some of the reviews I've read about this book, I think readers can get so caught up in labels and genres that they can be blinded to the charms of a rollicking, roller-coaster of a ride and overall, good read. If this book was made into a movie, I could see Tarantino or Rodriquez directing it as it has all the elements of their story-telling in here, complete with humor, violence, a plot that moves at a brisk pace, characters that have, well, character and the funniest dialogue no one really says, except in their movies. Reviewers have been trying to label those two filmmakers since they started making movies: is it a comedy? a romance? action? drama..? Maybe it's all of the above but the one thing you can say about those and about this book: it's downright entertaining (and like all guilty pleasures, go ahead and feel guilty afterwards, if you must).

So good you need to buy all four books of this series at once, because once you have started reading it you really can't stop. I really enjoyed this series. The first book hooked me in right away and I was instantly engaged with the story of `Gringa' (Payton) the heroine. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next, enthralled by the horror of her situation, and the sheer gritty style of the novel I read it from cover to cover and then went on to the next book.

Eve Rabi writes exceptionally well. The story unfolds as `Gringa' tells what happens to her with her quirky sense of humor, and one liners that have you smiling even in the harshest scenes she describes.

I highly recommend this book and the whole series if you are looking for a modern day love story.

1.0 out of 5 stars DECEPTIVE PRODUCT, DECEPTIVE SALES PRACTICE September 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
FIRST: This particular product is not a romance; there is no sex, no seduction in any form but RAPE. AND MORE RAPE. CONTINUAL RAPE.

Yes, I used caps. Why? Because I want potential buyers to know this upfront. While I firmly believe people can read whatever they wish, that choice should be based on truth, not deception. The author should have been as honest about the repeated rapes as she was about the violence. (EDIT/ADD: And no, not because I have anything against rape in books; I just wasn't prepared to read about it in this book.)

Like some of the others, I downloaded this as a freebie after reading the blurb, which is buried somewhere within the excerpt, so allow me:

He's a ruthless, drug-lord who kills at the slightest provocation; she's a sassy, foul-mouth, twenty-one year old who takes crap from no one. Put them together and watch the sparks fly. And fists.
Add their greedy, backstabbing, amoral families to the mix and you have mayhem.
Add the FBI to the mayhem and you have tragedy.
Gringa is a modern-day, tragic love story that will have you laughing, crying, gasping and above all wishing there was more.

WARNING: This book contains language your mother would definitely NOT approve of, scorching sex scenes that may keep you up at night, unnecessary and un-called for violence and is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18 or anyone seeking world peace just yet. (18 years that is, not months. Well, months too.)

So I thought, "Hmmm, interesting twist--a bit wacked, but interesting so why not?" Also, the "warning" has such a cutesy, tongue-in-cheek tone, doesn't it?

Here's "why not". As mentioned, there's no romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars raw, edgy version of Beauty and the Beast November 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved the series!!! O...M...G... can I say I bookmarked the heck out of the books and I think I've read them through 4 times. I laughed so hard sometimes and bawled my eyes out a lot too.

To me it's a raw, edgy version of Beauty and the Beast.

I mean, the Beast locked up Belle and threatened her many times.. but she got through to him on a level no one else could.

I see Diago as truly feeling that the milagro is his redemption in some way.

I don't want to give away too much but I got so sucked in, next thing I know I am going to book 2, 3 and 4.... that, to me is awesome writing!

There was one or two contradictions I picked up in the book but not enough to prevent me from loving the series.

I think it's a book you will either love or hate. I loved it!

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A WASTE September 6, 2012
By cathyb
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What started out as an original idea for a romance, turned horribly wrong. The subject matter in the book makes me wonder how it got categorized under the romance heading. Murder, rape, brutality, drug use. Not what I want in a supposed romance novel. And the ending! Definitely no HEA here. I downloaded this after reading rave reviews from other readers. I wonder what they were smoking. PLEASE do not waste your time on this book, or you will also be posting your first ever review of a book in an effort to save others from the torture.

1.0 out of 5 stars Are we reading the same book? Because this was not great. September 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'll admit the premise of the book was intriguing. In fact it was the premise that kept me reading till the end. I just kept waiting for this wonderful story to unfold. Waiting for the twist. I mean it's a romance story! Even if the crazed drug lord wasn't perfect, he should have had some redeeming qualities. But there was no romance in the story. There was an unhealthy obsession with the main character's former boyfriend (who married her step sister) and an abusive relationship with a drug lord who kidnapped her. All the sex scenes were brutal rape scenes. Her attacker really didn't seem to have a personality or any dimensions that came to light. At one point the author makes it seem like he's a puppet for his crazy mother -- I'm thinking, OK, maybe Peyton is going to unlock the good side of him. But later, he just rapes her more brutally than he did initially. Then the story ends with her vowing to kill him and the promise of more to come. More of what? One dimensional characters? More blood-thirsty drug dealers raping innocent girls and terrorizing communities. There was so much opportunity for complex and compelling characters and yet this story was filled with a whole lot of nothing. A complete waste of time.
