JB GRIP CASE

I saw this mentioned on kenrockwell.com .

The X100 is a great size and handles well. I have big meaty fingers though and sometimes I have wished that the body was just a little bigger. I had considered a very nice base plate/grip but the 200.00 price tag was a deal breaker. I would rather spend that money on some paper and inks.

When I read about it, I went immediately to the JB Camera Design website and ordered the 29.00 grip. It arrived 2 days ago. It slips onto the camera with no instructions necessary. There is a screw that attaches the base of the grip to the tripod screw hole and, JB even supplies a lucky penny to use as a screw driver.

The grip adds just enough heft to the X100 to make me feel secure about quickly grabbing the camera and using it. It is more comfortable than holding the camera alone. There are cutouts in the base for the battery compartment and speaker. It is very well made with a nice texture that gives a secure feel.

A well spent 30.00.

One other thing. On the invoice was hand written "Thanks Michael! -JB" . It was a nice touch.

Along with the penny, documentation, obvious quality of the product and pride in workmanship, this was a fulfilling purchase. I highly recommend this product.

Oh yeah, the grip has a very distinct smell. It has dissipated to almost zero in the last 24 hours. I kind of liked it. The smell brought back memories of working on an oil rig when I was a kid.

After extremely fast shipment last week (2 days!), I had the opportunity to try out the X100 Grip Case this past weekend. Three cheers for J.B. Camera Designs. When carrying and shooting with my camera, I felt more secure while holding the camera, due to the texture of this grip. On the bottom, I like how you don't have to remove the case to get to the battery/SD card compartment. I smiled as I saw the "extra touch" of a penny to secure the tripod screw into the bottom of the case - this company reminds me of the great American camera companies of yesteryear, when quality and service came first. Finally, it was good to see a product that was a true value when it came to payment. I only wish I could leave more than 5 stars on my review.

Nothing else like it. If you want a better, more substantial grip with protection for the camera this works quite well. Personally I dislike the expensive and pretentious leather half-cases so this is a great alternative. Adds very little weight Very grippy, almost rough surface. Very nice that that they ship it with two extra screws, the penny for installing, and a note about how the smell will go away in a few days. But the fit could be more snug, and I wish it were a bit stiffer overall and less flexible, as a number of others have said. Seems expensive for a piece of plastic but I suppose this is a low volume production item.

Edit: Since I wrote the above, I have used the grip a few more times. Unfortunately, the bulk of it, the part that you grip with your right hand, flexes away from the camera a little when you hold it by the grip and wrap the tips of your fingers around the front edge of the grip. Others may feel differently, but I found I just could not hold the camera securely by the grip.

The X100s is a bit of a sleeper; by looking at it, it would be tough to guess what an incredible camera it is. This is great on more than a few levels. The camera is unassuming when in public, it is less likely to get pinched, it is a great conversation piece, etc.

In looking for a camera case / cover, I wanted something that carried on that sleeper aspect. A cover that was no nonsense, tough, but still good looking in a non-showy sort of way. This case by J.B. Camera Designs completely delivers.

Some people here have complained (just a few) about the case being flimsy and coming away from the camera body. I have not had that happen to me. The material is flexible, but in no way could it be construed as flimsy. Since the SD slot on my computer doesn't work, I need to take the case off so I can plug in the USB cable and transfer pictures (a small downside of this case.) Even with all that on and off, the case is still like new, and has not lost its shape at all. The thing still fits my camera like a glove.

If I had one qualm, it would be the price. This really is just a big hunk of plastic, and while the penny is a nice touch and the screw mount extremely high quality, I think the price is a bit steep for what you're getting. Regardless, I'd still buy one again, and I'd recommend this to anyone with a Fuji X100 or X100s. The final analysis, it is still worth it, especially considering the well thought out design, the fit and finish, and how wonderfully unassuming it is.

The J.B. Camera Designs Grip Case just feels "right" on my X100s. It gives the body the grip that is missing. Really well made and looks great. Couldn't be happier with it.

Includes a penny to secure the included screw to the tripod socket which is great!

Thanks!

Nicely made BUT not snug enough on the shutter side. Thumb actually catches on the case ridge and pulls it away from the body. I had to pay to ship it back.
