Miniature Finger Gym...Play Guitar Better!,
By Nick Flash (Rainy Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Yellow, X-Light Tension (3-Pounds per Finger) (Sports)
Our daughter took up guitar about 6 months ago. It took her about forever to master the pesky "F" chord. Her teacher noticed she was developing the bad habit of holding her third finger on top of the pinky finger to get it to hold down the strings. "Just not enough strength in that pinky finger", says the teacher. Enter Gripmaster Finger Exerciser! Works like a charm. And hey, her basketball dribble is stronger now too! The kids at school are jealous, they think it's cool, her bright yellow contraption. Rock on, Gripmaster!

If you Need Finger Strength, Control, Endurance and Coordination, you are in the Right Place,
This review is from: Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Yellow, X-Light Tension (3-Pounds per Finger) (Sports)
Let me start saying that this is a wonderful product. Small, light, and well constructed (they feel like they will last forever). You can carry them with you, allowing to workout your fingers at the office, at home or wherever you find suitable. I bought the four different color-coded gripmasters: Black/heavy, Red/medium, Blue/light, and Yellow/extra light. I only found the resistance of the red and black ones useful for me, but my wife loves the blue and yellow ones. It was a great buy because of their high quality and affordable price. The product comes with a foldable instruction booklet where you find details for six different exercises: - Trigger pinch. This one simulates the movement of squeezing a trigger, and it isolates the index finger for enhanced strength and coordination. - Gross grasp. This one strengthens fingers, thumb, wrist and forearm for a firm grip. - Hook position. This one strengthens longer muscles in forearm and wrist while stretching smaller muscles in hand for greater motion and endurance. - Tip to tip pinch. This exercise strengthens specific fingers, thumb, smaller hand muscles and forearm for greater control and endurance. - Wrist flexion. It strengthens wrist and forearm muscles. - Key pinch. Strengthens thumb and index finger for greater stability and coordination. At the gripmaster website you can find more exercises for different activities and sports. If you are looking to crush hands when handshaking this is not the product for you, but if you need finger strength, control, endurance and coordination you are in the right place.

As soon as I put it in my hand the first time and started squeezing it, I loved this little thing, it feels GREAT in my hand, very ergonomic design, and the springs are nice and strong too (even though it's the lightest model!). I would recommend this model the highest over the next three for somebody who is just beginning to strengthen their hands, it says right in the packaging that, "Hand specialists recommend lower tension and more repetitions than higher tension..." etc. The springs aren't quite strong enough for my index and middle fingers, but are perfectly strong for my ring finger and pinky, which are the fingers I'm trying to work out the most (just on my left hand, for playing bass guitar). The blue 5 pound exerciser would probably be too much for my pinky and ring finger, and I would probably end up over-doing things and get tendonitis again in my left hand, so follow what they say, lower tension and more reps! It works great as a stress reliever, or something to mess around with, so more reps over a long period of time would be better anyways!

I bought this for my husband who has suffered a stroke and has linited use of his right hand. It has helped him strengthen his effected hand and helped with him training his left hand to function as his dominate hand.

X-Light is Plenty of Tension!,

I purchased this item when I started playing guitar. I am a woman and vacillated between 'Light' and 'X-Light' tensions, and I'm VERY glad I chose X-Light. If you are looking to build finger strength, you place the tip of your fingers on each key. This is good workout where it is light weight but higher reps.
If you are looking to build hand strength and hold the device further back in your hand, pressing the keys down with the underside of your primary knuckle, for example, you may need the 'Light.' If you are purchasing this for a child or teen to build finger strength you may want to consider the XX-Light.

Its a bummer that they never made (and don't plan to make) a PRO version of the x-light finger grip.
I feel that the pro is better designed due to its larger size... it also makes it feel more comfortable. In either case i still feel that the x-light is a great starting point if you wanna work on your isolated pinky and ring finger. When i first bought the light (after buying the medium, which i bought after the x-heavy) i thought it was really easy, but once i used the x-light and went back i realized that i was doing the pinky completely wrong before because the light felt so much harder! This product also seems to alleviate some pain on my mother's joint and muscles, so i guess this is also a good therepeutic product Lastly, if you didnt realize it after reading my and others' reviews, this is NOT A HAND GRIP

good little device,

This is the tension that is best for most children and smaller adults. The grip is a little smaller than the old dyna-grip model that I used to have. This also makes a great fidget for sensory diets.

This is a well-built product. It's moderately comfortable to use. The pressure is light. For the average person it's easy to do 60 flexes in 1 minute. I gave it four stars because it might induce arthritis in some people. After I used if for a few hours in one day I started to get arthritis type pains in my hand. However, I found it's a great stress reliever if used for 1 minute at a time occasionally.

Hand Strength Reduces the Rate of Aging ...,

This review is from: Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Yellow, X-Light Tension (3-Pounds per Finger) (Sports)
According to Dr. Oz and You: Staying Young: The Owner's Manual for Extending Your Warranty (You), hand strength reduces the rate of aging ... so this was one of several products I purchased as I implemented the Staying Young program.
I am extremely happy with the construction of the product, the size, and the usability. Everyone in my family messes around with it when they see it setting around so I'll be buying the next levels up for them: Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Blue, Light Tension (5-Pounds per Finger) and Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Red, Medium Tension (7-Pounds per Finger) and Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Black, Heavy Tension (9-Pounds per Finger). I am in my mid-40s and not the "strongest tool in the box" so I purchased this extra-light tension version so as to not inadvertently cause damage to any muscles, tendons, or ligaments. I made the right call with this tension level and enjoy using this device while I'm on my daily walks. Because you use the fingers separately or together, it gives you many more options for hand strengthening than the more typical grippers. Also, the package includes a glossy page of different exercises that you can do. The product came exactly as pictured. It's inexpensive, durable, attractive, and seems like you would use it forever (who doesn't have an opportunity to sit around a squeeze with your hands?) -- so I put this on the "everyone should get one" list. Bon Appetit! |
