5.0 out of 5 stars Selecting the right tension
From all the previous reviews, I knew these hand exercisers would be good solid devices - and they are. My only concern was what tension level to pick. Just as a data point for others, I'm a 71 inches tall, 180 pounds, fit male. I lift weights regularly, but am by no means a bodybuilder or powerlifter. I purchased the medium strength units, wondering if 7 lbs per finger...

I concur with C. Shephard's review. I have one of their lighter weight units, with which I was pleased, and decided to move up in resistance. However, the design differed solely by the sharp bump which focuses pressure on a small spot in the palm, and feels almost like a very uncomfortable "shiatsu" in the palm. That limits the reps I am willing to do-not because of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Selecting the right tension, December 25, 2009
This review is from: Gripmaster Pro Hand Strengthening System, Extra-Heavy Tension (11 Pounds per Finger) (Sports)
I purchased the medium strength units, wondering if 7 lbs per finger was too much or too little. I've found that if I power grip them (basically just grab them like a barbell, squeeze and release), I can easily do 100 or more repetitions. This leads me to think that the Mediums are too light if I only want to power grip. Same is probably true for many of you.

However, two things changed my mind about this. First I went to the Prohands website and found that several of the exercises they demonstrate (e.g. fingertipping) are much harder than the simple power grip. Also, by holding the grip for 3-5 seconds as recommended, even the power grip becomes more challenging. In the end, I've decided that the 7 lb units give me a very good workout.

My suggestion is if you only want to power grip, then you may want something heavier - obviously dependent on your hand strength. But if you value doing exercises that fully articulate your fingers in various ways, then you might want to try the Mediums.

Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy With GripMaster Products, February 21, 2008
This review is from: Gripmaster Pro Hand Strengthening System, Extra-Heavy Tension (11 Pounds per Finger) (Sports)
I was given the Medium Tension (7 lbs) Gripmaster as a hand-me-down gift almost a decade ago. It looked brand new when I got it, and it looks brand new today.

I eventually upgraded to the Heavy Tension (9 lbs) version, which was the strongest version you could buy for a long time.

Amazon remembered my Gripmaster purchase and decided to alert me to the new Gripmaster Pro products.

I could not have been happier to hear about it and I ordered it right away!

The construction is much beefier than the standard Gripmaster. And if the standard model lasts for 10+ years, I can't even imagine how long this one will last!

You have to have a larger hand in order to hold it comfortably and The curved part is not removable like the old Gripmaster, which I kinda miss.

I am very happy with the product and will continue to buy stronger version as they become available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Better than the 'Regular' non-pro version, March 13, 2009

I've been using Gripmasters for many years now and my only complaint was that rubber piece that sits against the palm kept twisting off the grip. So when I lost my Gripmaster and decided to replace it I was thrilled that I found the Pro unit. It resolves my only complaint about the Grimaster by removing rubber piece and molding a new palm rest directly into the unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripmaster is worth every penney, July 14, 2008

I have three grip masters; Medium, Heavy, and PRO Extra Heavy Tension - 11 lbs. I purchased them to use to strengthen my left index finger to play 6 string barr cords on the guitar. After only a few weeks, I'm able to play up and down the fret board making all strings sound clear.

I use them on each finger of both the left and right hand. I haven't played golf since I started using them, but I think it will help with getting some extra distance too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent gripper, December 14, 2008

I was having some hand issues and decided to start strengthening them up. I began with the standard Gripmaster (also very good products) in the medium tension, then moved up to the heavy tension. That got my hands even stronger so I thought I would go for this Pro model to keep increasing strength even more. I bought two so I can go simultaneously. These are very nicely made and the extra-heavy tension is just right for my now greatly improved hand strength. I play the guitar and these devices have helped enormously with my hand strength and endurance while playing.

Hint - if you reverse the grip (hold the base in your fingers and work one of the individual finger springs with your thumb) it makes a perfect exercise to strengthen your thumb muscles as well.

I recommend all the Gripmaster products - they have done a lot of good for me and are very well made. This model should last me for a long time. If somehow I wear them out I will absolutely buy new ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best grippers currently available, May 2, 2011

This review is from: Gripmaster Pro Hand Strengthening System, Extra-Heavy Tension (11 Pounds per Finger) (Sports)
I have purchased several of these since they became available. They are great for really working each finger, and building strength in your hands.

There are several useful exercises you can do other than just squeeze-grip.. Check out the website or youtube.

My only complaints- If you have smaller hands, short fingers these can be a challenge to get your hands around- as my friends I have given these to can attest.

Second complaint- These grippers do not retain the strength in the coils for long with regular rigorous use.

i 1st bought the 9pound one and had a blast using it, after a month or so it was nothing more then a toy so i thought it was time to upgrade. So i bought the 11 pound one hoping to get a better work out for my fingers. The thing is i didn't feel too much of a difference with the 11lbs one.

so what im trying to say is if you have the 9lbs one you dont need to buy the 11 pound just do 10 extra and you will get the same work out if not more.

still a great product love it but again if you have the 9 pound one save your money you dont need to upgrade to 11 pounds

That limits the reps I am willing to do-not because of muscle fatigue, but because of the discomfort of the bump. I am sending it back. I I could swap a "normal" handle, such as the previous one, I would say it is a 4 or 5 star product.

This thing is amazing, I originally bought it to exercise my fingers to play guitar, and it actually works a lot but after a while you find your fingers actually stronger, now I also have better grip when doing my pull ups on the gym... Highly recommended for guitar players!

I bought this as a replacement for an old style steel spring squeeze device. On the plus side it does exercise each finger instead of an overall grasp. On the minus side the thumb is not really involved unless you try the pinching exercise which does not work well for me because I use this while jogging.

It appears to be well made and should last a long time. The extra heavy tension is fine for me but I could see going higher if it was available.
