Great product. "Pro" Grip size is larger than the regular Gripmaster, but still reasonable. Finger surfaces are more comfortable on the Pro unit, but palm surface could benefit from a hook like on the regular Gripmaster. Medium tension is about right for the fingertip exercises, heavy tension is good for the closed fist exercises. Be sure to visit manufacturer's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Gorilla grip!
I bought this item based on other reviews I had read and I highly recommend you consider trying lighter tensions first. The Gripmaster Pro's are a really great product, but after buying the medium and heavy versions, I put them in a drawer and purchased the extra light and light tension units. If you're interested in developing individual finger strength and dexterity...

Medium tension is about right for the fingertip exercises, heavy tension is good for the closed fist exercises. Be sure to visit manufacturer's website to view all 11 different grips to use to strengthen different areas of hand and forearm. Really helping with ache & stiffness in my knuckles plus improving strength.

This is my third one of these little gadgets. My first one has survived daily use for over 10 years. I live in Florida and keep it in my truck so it knows how to survive intense heat also. Well worth the modest investment of you are looking to strengthen your hands/fingers or are into rehab.

I had used the original gripmaster many years ago while recovering after wrist surgery. I can recall that product functioning as advertised, but it was built w/ materials that would be expected to be found on a child's toy. That is not the case with the Gripmaster Pro. This Pro Series is highly impressive - the heavier grade plastic and overall build suggests that this device would be often found in professional rehabilitation facilities.

I purchased this Pro device for a multitude of reasons. The product arrived in a simple zip-style bag with a 1 page insert that provides information on the various product line offered, some basic usage instructions, and advice regarding technique.

"Hand specialists recommend lower tension and more repetitions rather than higher tension and fewer repetitions." This is printed on the insert and I would have to agree. You need to develop endurance if hoping to improve your conditioning for sports/firearms training/typing, etc.
Longer reps would be an optimum approach. Yet I also believe that using a heavier tension with fewer reps in addition to the approach a fore mentioned can only improve your conditioning. Mix it up. If you were, however only able to purchase one of these, I would recommend the Heavy Tension (9 lb.) with high repetitions. Work your way up to 50 or 100 using very strict form of finger alignment.

Their web site prohands_.net_ is simply awesome. They provide a great resource for the consumer. If you have one of these devices, you're missing out if you don't harness the resources on the site. I even like the coding on their site.

The Gripmaster Pro Hand Strengthening System is a great buy and I highly recommend to those considering its purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line!, August 23, 2009

The Gripmaster Pro is the best hand exercise equipment I have tried. No binding, very consistent and individual fingers are a plus and very comfortable. Make sure you get the right tension for your hands! It can be a little tough at first.

As an old guy, and after reading the reviews, I purchased the the strongest model (11 lbs I thought) a couple of weeks ago. I will purchase another within the next couple of weeks so I can do both hands at once. This device is extremely well-made, nice looking and comfortable to use. If you are an "average guy" do not select anything with less than the model with the most resistance, you will have to do too many reps to make it worthwhile. I haven't found a better grip exercise device yet - and I have tried several. I will likely try a few more devices but these seem reasonably priced for the quality of the product and the best I have found.

Had this for about 4 months, been training grip for around a year, working out for 3-4. Im under 21, 5'9 165ish

This is definitely a solid product. yet i find that its not as hard as id like, can close easily for 10 reps and this was true when i first received it.

So for someone with moderately strong hands id recommend looking for heavier resistance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flexible Hand Exercisor, January 19, 2011

I've had the heavy tension pro for about a month now. I chose it because I wanted something that I wasn't going to master in a few weeks. My first impression was that it was quite difficult. After about thirty-forty reps, my fingers would become very uncomfortalbe and my pinky would tend to lock up. However, I kept at it for a couple more weeks and my rep count had increased dramatically (close to 150-170) reps before my hand locks up from mucslce fatigue. Overall, very solid design with little noise or sqeaking. I haven't had to lubricate it yet, but hitting the exposed springs with some wd40 or other lubricant will be quite easy. I really enjoy using it at work to pass time and exercise inconspicuously. Will probably use for another month and then move up to the extra heavy tension. Last note; the pro model does not require one to have rediculously large hands, as some other reviews might suggest. I have small to average sized male hands and and I have no problems.

I bought this to help get strength back in my forearm after breaking my wrist. It works very well. Being able to use each finger individually was very helpful because my fingers were all whacky on strength after the broken wrist.

I also bought the "medium" tension Gripmaster to start with on my broken wrist, because I had only 1/3rd the strength in my broken wrist as I had in my other wrist, as measured by my arm therapist. However, within two weeks, I needed the stronger Gripmaster (which I had purchased at the same time) for some of the hand exercises. Other exercises will take awhile until I can use the "heavy" Gripmaster correctly.

With my good arm, I was able to easily pull this "heavy" tension Gripmaster, so I will probably buy the next stronger one also. But it will be awhile until I will outgrow this one with my recovering arm.

Anyway, these fit my hands well, worked well, and are a fair price.

If you go to the manufacturers website (prohands.net), they show a bunch of exercises to do with the Gripmaster.

This item is definitely worth the price.

The only difficulty a person may have will be determining which "tension" you should start with. The place I go for therapy for my wrist uses these (the regular Gripmaster, though, not the Pro), and watching other people use them makes it obvious that there is a wide variety of grip strengths--some people had a very hard time with the lightest models. Starting light is probably better so you can do the exercises correctly.

I love this little device. I only purchased it to build my fingers up for better typing and it did just that, but it did more. I have stronger hands, fingers, and people are afraid to shake my hands. I think that's their way of telling me to move up to the extra heavy tension. I might just do that. Highly recommended.

I had 2 of these gripmasters from about 8 years ago. One of em I lost a long time ago, but the heavy tension traditional black model gripmaster i had held up under almost constant use the entire time, until about a month ago when the little internal plastic spacers started breaking out and it became very hard to use(although still usable). These new ones seem much higher quality, and although the pad for your palm on the back is taking a little getting used to, I am liking them very much. Excellent Workmanship, excellent product.
