To become a winner at competition judo, you must pay attention to diet, weight training, stretching and mobility exercises, and develop a winning attitude. Everything you need to know is here, including descriptions of gripping skills and winning techniques that referees look for. I found this book to be very informative regarding the terminology and rules of competition Judo. I recommend it for anyone who desires a rounded base of knowledge on the basics.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Get to Grips With Competition Judo (Paperback)
I picked up this book as a brand new Judo student looking for tips and techniques, and I was very disappointed. This book goes over only 3 throws, 3 chokes, and 1 pin technique. There are no escapes, no counters, and no reversals. There is some okay general information on Judo history, competition, refereeing, etc, but I need to learn the basics before I worry about how to be a referee.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK general JUDO book, but it isn't about the GRIPPING, September 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Get to Grips With Competition Judo (Paperback)
This is a general overview of judo and is OK at that. It is not for someone looking for great depth in the very specific sub-division of judo involving the theory and practice of various gripping techniques.
