Sanding stone for straight edge razor,

This stone represents the coarsest level of stone to hone a straight edge razor. Videos on youtube were very helpful in describing how to use it. A finner stone is needed for a razor edge. This stone merely helps to quickly remove damage to an edge. The coarsest dark grey side is not recommended as being to harsh for a blade.

I purchased this sharpening stone as a stocking stuffer, for my fiance. The 6" length gives him plenty of room to sharpen the full length of his knives' blades and the width fits very comfortably in his (large) hands. The price I paid made this gift, a 'real steal'! The rough side allows him to smooth out larger defects and the smooth side removes scratches and leaves his knives like new.

I received my order within the time promised. It does a great job putting a crisp edge on knives and even scissors!

I got the sharpening stone due to the good price. However, the item I received was broken with pieces of debris in the package. The return policy was horrible, which made me spending more to return it.

The second worse item I have ever purchased from Amazon, this item arrived late and also broken (which isn't really amazons fault). I didn't return this item because I didn't care enough...I was simply disappointed that the company didn't care enough about its customers to pack and ship it properly.

Very coarse grit,

This stone is very coarse for any knife. It is probably good for sharpening garden tools. It is cheap and disposable. Rated 3 stars as it is a good value.

I bought this because it was good price and seemed to be pretty high quality.Perhaps I am just crazy, but I can't tell that one side is any different than the other in terms of grit. They are differing colors, but other than that they seem exactly the same. And without any kind of label, I am not sure how you are supposed to know which is which.

For <$5 I have a good sharpening stone that will last longer than I will. My needs are pretty basic. I just want to smooth out the occasional nick or but a decent, but not razor sharp edge on the knives I carry on hikes. Their most strenuous use is whittling or smoothing sticks I pick to use as hiking staffs. Toss into your tool box and you're set for life.

Lot of value for the price,

I use this stone for sharpening my kitchen knifes and camp hatchet. It works great. It takes me no more than 1-2 minutes to sharpen an 8 inch Wustof Chefs knife. I can get an edge sharp enough to cleanly cut through tomatoes. I don't have to resharpen for about 6 months. I've not been able to achieve a razor edge but then again I do not shave with my Chefs knife or hatchet. Still it gets edges very sharp. Sharpening is mostly in technique not the stone. I've used the new type sharpening tools that supposedly give you the exact angles to sharpen at and tell you the exact sequence to run your blade but I've never been able to get edges nearly as sharp as an old fashion stone like this. This stone is big enough to handle at least an 8 inch blade. This is well worth the money.
