5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Results, but Keep it Refrigerated
We have a nearly 9 year old Malamute. He has a fabulous coat of hair but was starting to get chronic skin problems. The salmon oil cured him. The results were quick (within a month). 3.0 out of 5 stars Simple: Alaskan Bear Treats is of a better quality.
Grizzly Salmon is a decent salmon oil supplement but we found that the Alaskan Bear Treats was a better quality of oil in color, smell, and freshness. Just our opinion and we found the Grizzly brand to be a bit too strong in smell and lingered way too long on our 100+lb dogs. If you're using a salmon oil to supplement then you likely can't go wrong with regard to the...

The only "special" advice I would offer is KEEP IT REFRIGERATED. Our malamute is obsessively food-centric... he will eat almost anything; but when the last of the large bottle I was storing at room temperature (mid sixties) went rancid he refused his kibble. I made the mistake of buying 4 large bottles all at once. I suggest you get them one at a time and keep it refrigerated (even though it says you can keep it at room temperature).

5.0 out of 5 stars Does this product have Mercury? I got my answer from the company., October 8, 2008
Thank you for your inquiry. Our oil is regularly tested for mercury, PCB's and other toxins. All levels are below the method detection limit, meaning that the levels are so low that they cannot be detected. Because our oil is from all wild Alaskan salmon it is inherently free of the toxins that you are more likely to find in farmed fish and farmed fish products. 4.0 out of 5 stars Grizzly Salmon Oil for dogs' coats, March 16, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have used several commercially prepared products over the past twenty years. Grizzly Salmon oil seems to be providing the nutrients necessary for good coats on my dogs, and I have been putting two squirts into the dogs' food daily for about six months. I have three Labrador retrievers, and all are sporting their best coats. I have used Lipiderm in the past, which also works very well. I believe that quite a few of the products marketed for improving good skin and coats are effective, and occasionally try out a new one. I don't believe the advertisements, but prefer to read labels, look for key ingredients, and try for myself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Simple: Alaskan Bear Treats is of a better quality., May 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you're using a salmon oil to supplement then you likely can't go wrong with regard to the benefits as long as it's wild (not farm raised) and of a good manufacturing quality. Both Grizzly and Alaskan Bear Treats brands are good - but we liked the ALASKAN BEAR TREATS better for the aforementioned reasons.

Edit: Thanks to the previous "commenter" for pointing out the minor error: we switched FROM Grizzly and BEGAN USING Alaskan Bear Treats and haven't looked back for all the reasons above. Also, it would be good to convey to consumers that a true "Wild Alaskan Salmon" source is better/safer than any other fish source for omega-3 fish oils (human supplements, too - however, this product review is solely for canine consumption). The wild Alaskan salmon have certifiably lower heavy metal and toxin content than any other ocean fish. Alaskan Bear Treats (none-the-less sourced from a large Alaskan seafood purveyor) has that covered so we're very satisfied with the quality of the Alaskan Bear Treats supplement. Grizzly isn't bad (still true wild Alaskan salmon source, I believe) but we simply liked the quality of Alaskan Bear Treats much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does Exactly What It Says It Will Do, May 7, 2006
By
Erica L. Hughes (Southern California, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
More than likely this will improve your dog's coat and improve it fast. In my experience high quality salmon oil (meaning it is wild caught, NOT farm raised which can have mercury in it) is the fastest working, most effective supplement to make your dog's skin and coat healthier with a show ring luster (It does it by helping the body produce more natural oil. A lack of oil leaves fur dry, dull, and brittle and a lack of Omega 3 Fatty Acids (which this is crammed with) can make the skin irritated because it doesn't have enough omega 3 to properly care for itself.)

To give you an idea how fast this works. I had a dog with severly dry skin and a dry coat (so bad it made me itch if it rubbed against my skin) that showed improvement in just a week or two and he's been getting better ever since. I had another dog whose coat was slightly dry and this got it into good condition in about two weeks.

Now when I brush my dog's they have oil in their coat for the brush to spread around and make it shiny and the skin is supple. However, you must brush your dog's coat once or twice a week because now that the coat is producing normal amounts of oil you need to make sure it spreads over the entire shaft of the hair (which brushing does) or it will start to feel gunky whereas if the oil is spread around the dog will just feel very nice.

As another bonus, whenever you bathe and shampoo your dog (which washes the oil out), the time it takes for the oil to replinish itself in the fur will be much shorter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Salmon Oil for Dog's Healthy Skin, January 1, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After using this oil for a month I noticed a big difference in my 11year old Blue Heeler. She stopped chewing on herself and here sores began to heal. She loves the taste and the no-drip spout works pretty well. I'm sold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Feline Friends Too!, November 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Grizzly Salmon Oil All-Natural Dog Food Supplement in Pump-Bottle Dispenser, 8 Ounces (Misc.)
We all know the healthy properties of Omega-3 oils for humans. Why wouldn't it help our furry friends? Plus have the added benefits of great skin and coat?

I purchased this for my cats approximately one month ago. I know it is the "DOG" supplement but the ingredients are identical, however, the dog price is lower. Once a day on their dry food I put on 2 to 3 sprays and you would think I am feeding them filet mignon. They LOVE it!

Their eyes are bright and have vitality to spare. Do keep it in the refrigator with a notice attached that it is for "PETS".

Happy, Healthy Holidays to you and your pets!

5.0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS!, November 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have an eight year old male Australian Sheppard. His skin has always been sensitive. We have (maybe "had") to keep his hair cut short to help with his sensitive skin. He would get red spots around his underarms, and on his belly, some refer to these as "Hot Spots" he was a constant "Licker" and "Scratcher", also his feet were always irritated. This summer he started to smell like stinky feet, or Frito's. The smell was getting so bad I could not stand it, and was embarrassed if anyone came into the house. I love him, and felt bad for him. I was on a mission. I knew dogs were not meant to eat "Corn" and that improving his diet was the best way I could help him, and to do it as economical as possible. I looked at a lot of product on the net to determine which might be best for him, easy to use, and not break the bank.

This stuff works. It is easy to use. I keep it in the fridge as others have recommended. I give him 4 pumps per 2 1/2 cups of his regular dog food (Beneful)stir it around with a fork, or a spoon. It's been about a month now. No red spots, rarely ever licks or scratches, no stinky feet / Frito smell, he loves it (whines for it), he seems happier, his left hip which was causing him pain and stiffness has gotten to the point of I don't think it bothers him anymore. His coat is much softer / smoother.

This stuff is no hassle, not a smell issue on him, or on his food to me. Give it a month (or around six weeks maybe) I just put in another order.

I switched his treats to the "Zukes Mini Naturals Samon". H dosent care how small the treats are just as long as he gets one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rosemary oil added, April 15, 2011
I give salmon oil to my 2 senior dogs as well as my 4 ferrets. I am SO disappointed in this. I am hoping to pay the shipping cost and send it back. I got it b/c I could not find anywhere online when reading about it that said it had added rosemary. The last brand I tried had rosemary and only 1 dog would touch it, no one else would. They all went from loving their oil to despising it, b/c of the rosemary. This HAS rosemary, even though it's hard to find a website that tells you that. If you go to Grizzly's website, it does say it has added rosemary. All I can say is beware, some animals do NOT LIKE rosemary. 32 oz is a huge bottle to waste. Back to the expensive Nordic Naturals. At least it has nothing added, period.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, May 28, 2007
This is an excellent product. Used it in the recovery/rehab of 11 rescued dogs and it really made a difference. There was a noticeable improvement in coat in very short time. This is a supplement that really does make a difference.

I think it's among the best of its kind, as well. Well worth the price.
