5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Grizzly G0654 6 Jointer, September 25, 2009

This review is from: Grizzly G0654 6" x 46" Jointer (Misc.)
This is a great Jointer and a great value. I prevously owned a Sears jointer and have used several others. First, most competing jointers offered by other manufacturers at a similar price range only have two cutters and turn at a much lower speed. This jointer is a joy to use and gives a very fine surface. The workmanship is professional and well designed. The dust collecting system is exceptional with very few wood particles escaping the the machine. Jointers typically make a large quantity of sawdust. I would recommend to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Small-shop Jointer Available, May 14, 2010

I am completely satisfied with my decision to buy the Grizzly G0654 jointer.

This is the first (and I do mean first) Chineese manufactured shop tool that I have used that has any value beyond being sold for scrap metal. Frankly, when I saw that it was made in China I was fully prepared to put it back in the crate; but I took the 90 minutes needed for assembly and was glad I did.

1) It is very well designed for assembly and goes together without any fussing around getting screws to line-up.
2) The roller-base works as advertised and makes it a very easy machine to work with in the small shop where power tools must be put away every day.
3) It uses a good quality motor that does not cause GFI outlets trip.
4) The manual includes concise adjustment instructions which proved unnecessary since it was perfectly adjusted out-of-the-crate.
5) While I would prefer a handwheel to adjust infeed table height the lever works well enough. The one design fault is the depth-of-cut indicator; at best it is a loose approximation and I'd recommend a steel straight-edge and feeler gage to get it right.
6) The cutter (and knives) are quite good. I do almost all my work in Cherry and it goes through a 5" wide board like butter and leaves a surface that almost does not need sanding.
7) Adjust the fence and it actually stays put! (amazing).
8) It is very quiet and free of vibration (due to its weight) and the dust port works well.

I do not hesitate to recommend this jointer and I doubt that that a better quality/value machine is available. this is my third 6" jointer, there is a Delta, and a Jet machine at the local landfill because they proved such garbage that I wouldn't even give them away at our local reuse center. This Grizzly will be in my shop for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot beat the price, December 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Grizzly G0654 6" x 46" Jointer (Misc.)
This jointer is well worth the price. It is heavy and requires at least two to move the crate. It assembled just like the instructions showed, but was more assembly than I had anticipated. Keep in mind it is sheet metal and requires assembly as such. For example, do not tighten the screws until you have started all the related screws. You may need to go back and loosen some bolts to get the sides of the base to align with the screw holes. But some patient work will result in a terrific machine. It runs smoothly and required no additional adjustment to the factory installed blades or beds. Cleaning the anticorrosion gunk was probably the most difficult part since it is everywhere.
