5.0 out of 5 stars A Rolls Royce of bench top drills
Ordered, paid and delivered within a week. I unpacked, and assembled within 2 1/2 hours. The drill
is silent and meets its specification. Just a few tips. I used 4 1/2 inch bolts for the base. Before bolting the column to the base, clean, and try inserting into the headstock. You will note a column stop about 2 1/4 inches inside the headstock. When you are...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware
I am returning this drill press to Grizzy for a refund. I was told by their
customer service today "you get what you pay for". I'd rather have a lousy drill press than a lousy reputation. At least I can return the drill press.

When you are satisified that the column will easily move inside the headstock, place a piece of insulating tape about 2 1/4 inch from top of column. Now bolt the column to base. Next, the table support, mine was slightly rough between the clamping space. Used a fine file. table support then easily slides on the column. Now slide table support on column, then the headstock, the tape will indicate when headstock is fitted correctly.
I fitted a 4" vice to the table support, with one side bolted to the table, using 1 1/2 bolts. It works for me. Support lock handle, mine is fitted to the left hand side!!!!!!
I tapped the chuck using a mallet. The drilling return spring is OK. I did not change the drill depth stops.
Finally, beware, the overall height is 22", but the pulley safety cover requires a further 5 inches.
Easily a five star plus for the product, delivery and cost.

This tool is adequate for those tasks in which a hand drill does not give sufficient positional control and you wish that you had a drill press. Now for very little money you can keep one on the back bench.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad At all!, June 1, 2010

I needed a small drill press, and I didn't want the limitations of Dremel, to use only their proprietary drill bits. I needed it quick. Grizzly and Amazon came through.
I peeked in the web site for this product, and it showed a whole PAGE of tools and bolts that might be needed to put it together! That might be a long night! Actually, it needed 3 bolts tightened, and took just a few minutes.
It works nicely, and I have drilled 150 holes exactly 0.031" diameter. No problems at all. The shipping was prompt and the packing and instructions were neat. Nice little machine. Very good quality and workmanship. / Happy owner. / rap

I replaced my Delta 8" press with this- This press is smaller, lighter with similar quality. I was concerned about the power, but it has plenty of power. My only wishes would be for a larger table(which is small) and less play in the shaft(which is visible and somewhat disappointing). A better press would cost 3 times as much. I rarely need a press, so this fits my needs. If i used the press frequently, i would absolutely get the 12" Grizzly.

As an engineer and a tinkerer who does some ocassional woodworking & metalworking I'd rate this drill press a great buy. It does the job, perhaps not like a $500 drill press, but it's much more than $95 better than no drill press. Parts are of reasonable quality excepting the drill distance stop collar which is made of plastic - broke mine because I pushed too hard first time I cranked the drill down, but that's an operator error (ordered replacement collar for a buck plus shipping). So if you're just looking for something that's cheap and works I'd recommend this drill press. If you get it, purchase the 3-inch vice as well. (I tried a $16 Home Depot 4-inch drill press vice, but the vice mounting holes did not match up to the mounting slots on this "Baby" drill press table.) Get a couple of 5/16" bolts, washers, and wing nuts to mount the vice to the drill press table.
