Product Description

Product Description

This is one of the best saws on the market for the small or large shop. It features a 5" round and 5" x 6" rectangular capacity. But what really sets this apart from other saws of this size is the head swivel giving a maximum angle of cut of 60deg. Remember how much trouble it is to change a vise backing jaw only to get a 45deg cut? Not with this guy. The easy-to-adjust head has stops in all the right places. And because the vise backing jaw is rigid on this saw it is taller giving it the ability to support the work piece better. And of course the machine comes with all the features you'd expect from Grizzly hydraulic down feed control easy access wheels for quick blade changes and the right blade speeds to do the job.

Overall this is a very good unit. There was a problem with the packaging of the panals for the base. They were in plastic bags and in shipping some minor damage to paint was present.
Also when the base panals were painted none of the tapped holes were protected from paint.
If a person uses the proper blade, speed, feed this machine does a great job. Very good results, one thing I wish it had is a coolant pan and return to the pump. Also came pre-wired for 110 volts can be changed to 220 single phase.

I've had this bandsaw for 4 years using it lightly on weekends. Turns out to be one of the most important metal working tools to have. Rated 5" x 6" it will actually cut almost 7" of flat stock -the clearance on mine is right on 7". Without question it cuts great every time. The only blade I broke was replaced by Grizzly at no cost as it broke at the weld. It is very easy to get a feel for how hard the machine is working, to know how fast to lower the blade and what speed to use. Coolant is messy so I don't use it, instead I cut a good bit slower than one could with coolant.
I do however have two complaints - my first is that the blade roller guides are difficult to adjust. To set the height of the back of the blade bearings required a 13mm wrench that when used hits the side bearing adjustment nuts. You can see this in pictures in the manual [...].
It makes this fortunately infrequent adjustment tedious - but it does work. These guide fittings are also quite a sloppy fit (ISO9001??) such that you need to set the blade vertical by eye by tilting the guide while carefully avoiding knocking the side bearing nuts.
My second complaint is that while the auto stop lever does work it requires lifting the blade very high in order to provide enough space to turn the switch on. I reworked the shape of the bracket but it helped little and in practice I don't use the auto stop. But I could slip it back on easily enough.
Overall for my use it is a very good saw, and I expect I would buy it again. The hydraulic lowering device works beautifully and consistently and the swivel head feature would be hard to do without.
I would however eagerly compare with other saws in this price range just in case. I must say I have 4 large woodworking machines plus a metalworking mill and lathe from Grizzly each of which I carefully compared with machines costing sometimes 2-3 times as much. In each case I have been really happy with Grizzly product.

I DID EXTENSIVE SHOPPING BEFORE CHOOSING THE GRIZZLY.IT IS MADE IN CHINA.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A "MADE IN THE USA" SAW THE PRICE
WILL JUMP UP TO OVER $2000.00. FOR HANDYMAN USE OR FARM USE
THIS SAW WILL BE OK. EVERY ONE IN THIS PRICE RANGE WILL BE FORIEGN MADE.
ACTUALLY EVERY BRAND I LOOKED AT, FROM CRAFTSMAN TO JET TO HARBOR FREIGHT, LOOKS LIKE THE SAME EXACT MODEL.
THE GRIZZLY WAS EASY TO ASSEMBLE AND THE QUALITY IS DECENT.
THE JAWS WILL HOLD 6 INCH MATERIAL AND THE HYDRAULIC ASSIST
IS A NICE FEATURE.THE CUTS ARE CRISP AND PRETTY ACCURATE.
IT HAS WHEELS, BUT IS NOT VERY MOBILE

I have had this saw for about 6 months, probably made 150-200 cuts or so and I am impressed with the performance. Cuts are very accurate throughout the entire range of the swivel head. Cuts very nice 45 angles, I have used it quite a bit for 3" structural channel and it slices through with ease. For mobility, its awkward to move around however not difficult, its is fairly easily moved around the garage. I haven't got the auto stop adjusted quite right yet, that seems to take a bit of tinkering, its not that important to me so I haven't invested too much time but it didn't really work right out of the box. I thought the instruction manual was difficult to follow as well. Those would be the only, almost insignificant complaints I can muster up. The blade came off once but that was because my work piece moved, I didn't have it clamped down well, however putting it back on is simple. It was packed well and easy to put together. One reason I got this saw was to replace my dry cut chop saw that cut pretty great but was loud as hell and constantly required adjusting the fence to get an accurate cut...and forget about angles, what a hassle! This saw exceeded my expectations. Quiet and accurate. I dont know if its recommended but I use lennox cutting fluid when I cut, it quiets it down even more and probably extends blade life. Still on the original blade and no broken teeth, cuts like new still. I think it would be tough to find a better saw for the money. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I purchased this saw a few months ago to replace a harbor freight special that finally died. I like the easy to set angle cutting and the hydraulic assist feature along with the automatic shut off switch. All these features make for easy use and fast trouble free cuts. Unfortunately, the Grizzly does not measure up in performance.

The hydraulic assist is cumbersome. The feature is used to control the amount of pressure being exerted by the saw on your workpiece. The simple adjustment dial on the top of the hydraulic cylinder can be set to ease back the downforce exerted on the workpiece. This is meant to prevent the blade from sticking or jamming on your material; which can often result in a broken or derailed blade. The cylinder also has a stop valve which can hold the cutting blade above your workpiece at any desired height. This allows you to use both hands to adjust your workpiece. Unfortunately, where it has a stop, it does not have a release. You can't simply set the downforce and repeat. If you wish to raise and lower the saw freely you must open the valve causing you to lose your setting. The auto shutoff switch is a great feature, one to be expected in a $600 saw. Unfortunately the switch on the Grizzly is all but impossible to adjust properly. The switch has an adjustment stop allowing the user to select at which point in the cut the saw will shut off. Unfortunately, the switch has too much play in it to make it accurate enough to work properly. The saw either stops cutting too soon, or doesn't stop at all. The best I've been able to get this setting adjusted stops the saw when it finishes cutting, but doesn't shut it off. Raising the cutting head turns the saw back on which can be dangerous.
